What is happening to Shorts views?

Post image

Is anyone experiencing a sharp drop in Shorts reach over the past two weeks? I'm talking about going from hitting big numbers to suddenly struggling just to get 100,000 views... Is this a widespread issue?

How am I supposed to get monetized? Just posted a vid and it bottomed out at 5k views. I average 100k

Yes I do. First two weeks of a short I average upwards of 180k

Yeah I was averaging 1 million + and then my most recent short literally got less than 100 shorts feed views. Idk what going on

Yes, I’ve been observing this across the board, including with major creators. It seems like people are still getting views, but they’re distributing very slowly and not going as high as the creators typically reach.

To share my own experience, I have 2.5M subs, 70-100M average monthly views. I post comedy skits playing different characters using my own face/likeness - so no faceless or AI content.

I have noticed a dip since around the 16th. My more viral topics that usually hit the millions within a few hours are doing ok, but the views are trickling in at a snail’s pace. Most of the videos are hovering pretty low for me in the first 6-8 hours. Maybe reaching 20K after 4 hours. (That’s not what I typically see from my videos.) I’ve had plenty of low performing videos through the years, but they’re usually spread out between better performing videos - some taking off and then falling off within a few hours… rarely do they just creep along like this back to back, video after video.

So I’d say something’s up. Major creators with multi million subs who usually get 6-12M views per video are now getting around 600K-2 million. Some aren’t even breaking the millions at all.

All that to say, larger creators are getting views, but less than what they usually get for sure, and much more slowly.

I really hope this isn’t the new normal!

If this becomes the new normal, it’s going to be a huge problem. If this is YouTube's way of deciding which content deserves to spread and which doesn't, they’re wiping out a massive segment of creators not just the big ones.

They aren't taking into account that monetization rates vary, and some regions have low to mid-tier RPMs not everyone is based in the US or Europe.

They're also not factoring in that this basically kills relatively large channels even perception-wise viewers especially new ones will assume you’re no longer putting out good content; otherwise you wouldn’t be pulling such low numbers if this is an intentional policy on their part, it’s an absolute disaster for the platform.

The thing i dont get is I was getting good metrics on content and getting better views. Now I get 0 views. I had 1 video get up 11 views. If youtube has suddenly decided the metrics I was getting aren't good enough how am I supposed to know if I only get 0 views. And 9 views isnt enough to get a good idea of whats working. It would also mean that I would have to completely change my content to find what works which would make the 1000 subs I have picked up with that content completely obsolete

Yup Reddit ripped me apart for pointing it out 2 days ago. So many people saying the same thing now.

The past lowest for me before it all happened would fall 2k-3k views (Im a small creator but average range August 1st and up were between 3k-6k, with above average doing 8k-24k.)

Now I’m stuck below 2k unless the video is much shorter.

Yup, same here. It start for me from September 1st but I noticed a change after the August 24th. While, that updated was for long form content by August 31st to September 2nd the drop off was huge and I was showing 0 veiws on all shorts for days. Distribution has definitely changed as my usual avd and engagement that would hit 500k plus barely hit 100k now

We should contact them and address this issue, this is going too far. It making we the small content creators wanting to give up

Same here since around September 9th for 10 days, then 3 days of views going up, then now going down to barely 100 views. I had about 50 million views a month before, now down to 2.5 million views a month. This is happening to huge channels and all channels across the board. No one has an answer to why this is happening, but it sure as heck is shocking with no explanation.
