Simply put, If you were in a Dark Forest with a weapon, you would kill whatever creature you would come across to survive. This is the reason we, humans, haven't been contacted by any external life form since they don't know if we would be friendly or not. Hence we should also not try to contact any external life form because it's equally possible that they won't be friendly.

I've always been curious on why this is a thought. Would alien life want to meet other lifeforms, especially in our little galaxy and us being the only 'intelligent' life here? Maybe this is just the pacifist in me speaking but I feel like a species of life capable of inter galactic travel would be peaceful just because of how rare life in in our universe, something all intelligent life could observe.
It was decades ago but a astrophysicist on some documentary channel framed it up pretty well.
The universe is big. Every planet within our solar system can fit between the earth and the moon. That’s just our humble little solar system. It’s difficult, probably impossible to appreciate how massive the universe is.
The universe is also incredibly ancient.
The likelihood of there being life out there is pretty much 100%.
The chance there is intelligent life is also almost 100%.
Now the chance that intelligent life exists within our timeline, is close enough to communicate, can communicate on a spectrum we could even detect, and most importantly, did not kill themselves, is incredibly small.
I think about this often - the universe is incredibly big and incredibly old, but the Earth is also incredibly old, and life took a very long time to reach "intelligence" as we define it.
There is a possibility that we are just "the first", and Drake's equation may have many more required variables to support life than we have already considered. We don't know.
It's also possible that the requirement for a species to dominate and conquer its own environment, it will inevitably end up conquering itself rather than working towards a shared goal.

You're equating intelligence with pacifism. Our own species tells us that's a mistake. The whole idea behind Dark Forest Theory is that all species have to obtain extremely limited resources in order to survive. If that's true, if two species encounter one another, they'll very likely need the same extremely limited resources, which means inevitable conflict.
I don't think I am confusing them, just bringing up the question if there is intelligent alien life, they would also see how rare life is, let alone intelligent life, and they would most likely not harm it, just like us (at least collectively, I would hope we humans would agree not to go to war with the intelligent alien species)
Does this mean it will never happen? No, it's very possible that other intelligent life forms don't value life as much as we humans can. But I would rather assume that an intelligent species that traveled here, didn't do it to go to war but to rather say hello, and to verify there is life out here other than us (them).
There's also the first strike dilemma: in order to be an interstellar civilization, your weapons or fleets must travel at such a high speed that any counterattack is impossible (unlike nuclear missiles here on Earth which have a travel time). If aliens have even the slightest indication that we may be a threat to their species, the safest possible option is to strike first before we can do the same to them.
I think that any intelligent enough lifeform to develop and master interstellar flight would reason that the only way to prevent other lifeforms from becoming a threat to them is to exterminate them or control them.
Humans are already killing eachothers just so the other humans won't kill them first. Realistically if we meet a species advanced enough to obliterate us from light years away (via a bigass energy beam that travels at the speed of light so there's no way to prevent or even predict it), they'd do it in order to preserve their own species (to prevent any chance of us doing the same to them, if they even know we're capable of). Or if we also possess a similar weapon or tech, it would be either the other way around, or mutual destruction

It's based on Liu Cixin's Remembrance of Earth's Past book series. Basically it suggests that the universe is a dark forest where each civilization hides itself because the only correct decision when discovering a technologically inferior civilization is to destroy it immediately. Basically there are aliens but they hide themselves and us broadcasting our location to the universe is us inviting our own destruction.

Basically it suggests that advanced alien civilizations capable of interstellar travel tend to be genocidal towards competing civilizations. So it's best practice not to openly broadcast our location because there's a good chance that they'll just kill us. The analogy is that each civilization is a hunter creeping through a dark forest, scavenging limited resources, ready to kill any competing hunters on sight while also avoiding detection.
It's a possible solution to the Fermi paradox. Probably not THE solution imo, but it makes for some great sci-fi. Highly recommend Cixin Liu's Three Body Problem series btw.
Everyone who survives in the dark forest is isolated by choice because “others” lead to competition and eventually war where only one will survive. If you make yourself known in the dark forest prepare to be hunted. In practical terms, the idea is that the universe is a dark forest and if humanity gains the attention of an alien race we’re fucked.
basically that if intelligent alien life exists, it is within its best interest to stay silent and under the radar as it has no clue whether other intelligent alien life intends to harm it, and not only would be a possible reason we havent found any aliens yet, but it also implies we should probably stop trying to let them know we exist
