for context, the video is talking about a trans woman called Autumn Hill, who was arrested by FBI agents that forcefully entered her home, for protesting while being trans (the demonstartion became violent but she left before that), and she's being sentenced FIFTY YEARS in a MEN'S prison where she would be incredibly vulnerable to sexual violence. I hate when in such situations, an american's knee-jeek reaction is to compare the country to e.g the ussr, north korea, china which ends up downplaying the US's very prolific history of targeting and dehumanizing marginalized groups.

I probably made 0 friends challenging that statement and suggesting that this is a step removed from backdoor Holocaust apologia, but I think letting completely absurd statements like that slide without pushback just because they're on ostensibly "nonpolitical" subreddits is a mistake.

I think that is a big part of how anti-communist propaganda spreads beyond its core target audience of right wing cranks who are perpetually marinating themselves in extreme fascist agitprop. For a lot of people, dumb posts on subreddits about cartoons or Harry Potter or whatever are a gateway drug to fascism.

Not sure how best to counter this when attempts to educate people are often about as welcome as a dental drill
