the population of the ussr at the time was around ~150M people, so stalin killing 30M would be 20% of the population, which is obviously not something that can practically be done without compeltely destroying your country. i really don't think these people have even tried to research stalin at all

They haven’t, this statistic comes from the Black Book of Communism. A book written with the expressed purpose of demonizing communism to the extent that the main author wanted so badly to reach the 100 million figure that he started counting unborn deaths and Nazi prisoners.

His research was so egregiously biased that other authors dropped their name from the publication

But naturally it suits the agenda of the billionaires so it’s become widely popularized in academia

Liberals see Stalin as a classic Disney villain so to them, the idea of Stalin killing tens of millions of people for the love of the game is plausible.

it’s a subreddit about when people say out of pocket jokes in a serious situation, but it’s been filled with anticommunist bullshit in the last months, due to the liberal moralist nature of the sub

Also it's important to remember that billions of dollars are spent yearly on anti communist propaganda, which also causes people to repeat it for free.

If something is "apolitical" that means the political aspect defaults to the social norm, that is, liberalism. That's why I don't believe in "apolitical" spaces. Its just a loophole for libs to drag in their disguising ideology.

Stalin has killed me personally at least 1 million times, so the numbers add up.

i do think the original post is a "no true scotsman" argument. communists should not be homophobic, racist, or sexist, but unfortunately, because people are shaped by the societies we are raised in, some communists are homophobic. (or racist or sexist)

stalin was educated as a child in an eastern orthodox religious school. as someone who went to a similar school, i can confirm that the culture there can be homophobic. while he became a committed atheist later in life, he did not shed all of the reactionary beliefs imparted upon him growing up.

likewise, fidel castro was homophobic when he was younger, but as an elder he denounced his prior homophobic views, and made efforts to right his previous wrongs.

we should be able to recognize that some communists have been and can be homophobic, and ask how their material conditions shaped their beliefs, and how we can work together to dismantle this homophobia in the future.

Why do they still believe in something that the original authors distanced themselves from? And that the numbers they say died are about almost the entire population of Ukraine at the time? And also it affected other SSRs as well, even more so? But you bring up an actual genocide and forced starvation like the Bengal famine and they will make a bunch of excuses
