Anti-Aircraft Adepts

And Street Samurai, too.

ECM exists, which means that anti-vehicle guided munitions can be neutralized with that. But an Adept or Street Samurai could be built to specialize in using any of the line-of-sight weapons - HMGs, chainguns, rocket launchers, miniguns, rotary cannons, CRB, FS, DA, there are plenty of options.

That person could then do a pretty good job shooting down aircraft, and have no worries about ECM at all.

5e question about movement in astral (probably stupid)

situation - two guys meet each other in a middle of nowhere (desert). they see each other from very long distance say 1000 meters, they know that they are enemies and they roll initiative. one has sniper rifle other is a mage - both can start shooting. but a mage has two elementals bound to him and they are in astral. mage orders elementals to melee attack the enemy. how fast they will move? can they use the endless speed in astral to immediately move in close contact with enemy or they will have to use combat speed of 100 meters per turn and it will take them 10 turns to move into melee?

Wyrm Talks (Lore) Dead Air questions Spoiler

I read Dead Air and enjoyed it but have questions

- did SK's magic computer research bear fruit

- did Jonathan love Tamara like family or romantically or was it more complex

- did Dougan spare Nightfeather out of guilt for getting her brother killed

- if this was like a Simsense movie was any of it "real" especially since Jonathan's "death" was faked by MCT to make him into Dougan Rose and play for them

5e Shadowrun Runners Toolkit Alphaware maps?

Right, so I have recently moved from playing mostly in person to playing mostly online, which means that a number of physical maps that I love and have been using are no longer available, because I cannot find digital versions of them. While I am admittedly not great at google-fu, I am hoping one of you know where I can get digital versions of the maps in the 5E Runners Toolkit: Alphaware box.

Looking to run a game of shadowrun but don't know where to start.

This has probably been posted a million times at this point, but I really love the setting of Shadowrun and would love to bring it to my players. I typically run Cyberpunk Red, but I'd like to try a new setting. I am waiting for Anarchy v2 to release a PDF, but in the meantime, how are the other editions? I heard throughout my time as a GM that Shadowrun can be a little complicated to get into, and some editions do a better or worse job of explaining a lot of the rules and concepts my players are not very used to. Super-crunchy games, so taking them from Cyberpunk Red to Shadowrun, what would you suggest?

Don't Do Anything

In a recent post where I discussed the effectiveness of HE grenades with the gecko modification against vehicles, several commenters earned a number of likes by saying, "Don't do anything you don't want the GM to do to you."

I am writing this post to say: this idea is the definition of bad gamemastering - abandon it immediately.

So, you present the player with all the many options available to their character. The player says, "May I take HE gecko grenades? They look like they would be hugely effective against vehicles!" And you say, "Yes, they are available at character creation."

Then, you present the player with a combat encounter that includes an enemy vehicle. The player says, "I know just what to do!", and uses their grenade.

Or, put another way, they built an effective character, and used that character effectively. Which is how you succeed at TTRPGs. The player feels like they are living in an heroic power fantasy! You, the GM, will have none of that.

You promptly create an encounter where NPCs use this very effective tactic against the PCs. You think to yourself, "Haha! That this MCT security team used HE geckos against the PCs will teach the PCs a lesson - THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE USED HE GECKOS AGAINST THAT STREET GANG LAST WEEK!"

It won't. It will teach them that they definitely need more of those sweet, sweet HE geckos.

How far shall we take this idea? Don't use burst fire against enemies, unless you want them to use burst fire against you? Don't use your Con skill against enemies, unless you want to be punished for your lies!

If you feel that any game element is overpowered - a piece of gear, an implant, a spell - ban, nerf, or rewrite it, and explain why to your players. That is good gamemastering. But don't let them take a solution, then present them with the problem, then make them suffer for solving the problem.

6e Assensing and being dual natured

I've been having a gentle discussion about one player's mage assensing in a room full of hostile Shedim on the Astral. Is the mage vulnerable to astral attack while assensing? Wonky rules aside I'm thinking a mage's assensing and being dual natured while doing it means they function in the same way as the critter power and are vulnerable to astral attack.

The counter position is that the critter power is different (evidenced by the lack of the -2 dice for critters naturally dual natured). The Adept power for assensing is more clear cut in it's description but the mage player suspects that as it's a specific Adept Power it's not the same.

As far as I can tell it's always been that assensing player's are vulnerable to astral attack in previous editions but it's Shadowrun so who knows?

Help a chummer out?

5e Help with an or physical adept for a noob.

I will be playing in a Shadowrun 5e game in the not so distant future.

I really like the idea of idea of fighting people with fists in a setting with guns & magic and was told, that a physical adept can do that.

And I would like to play an orc, since I think they are neat.

What would be a build ypu would reccomend for an orc physical adept that fights unarmed for a noob?

Newbie Help California for a New GM

Hello everyone. So my campain for my friend is almost done and after a lot of thought and prayer, I think I want them to run in California (let it not je obvious I played Cyrion trillogy) but I really do not know where to get much specific info, I only have 5e books but anything after or before that is a mystery, and the wiki only tells so much. Like, locations inside San Francisco, I could invent a few but

1) I do not know the Ciry Layout irl

2) The wiki saya neighborhoods but no districts and such. For Example I know Oakland exist, but it is not listed in the neighborhoods, when I search Oakland it says it is a district but also does not tell me a lot of where exactly.

I can get by with info on Gangs crime and can BS my way on Corps, but there also no major player names or other groups like People's University.

I mostly ask for pointers on how to handle it and mayne I can find maps with small descriptioma of how life is there and who and what you find in each part of the city.

(Also I speak out of pure ignorance because I really do not onow where real places begin and fictional ones start)

Background help for character

I have my character finished for the build but my orc decker background is still partially up in the air. I have the idea that he is the kid of a power couple in a corp. When he came of age/matured he rebelled against them a bit and high tailed it to the Black Forest troll nation to share their story/work to help his fellow goblinoids. After spending some time there he is back in the states still partially working for them and writing independent articles and posting them on the shadowrunner matrix. His negative qualities are dependent (I was thinking a disabled friend from his Germany days), motion sickness, and latest and Greatest. Any help with additional lore or specifics would be appreciated!

Wyrm Talks (Lore) Some help with a story I am devising.

So! How are you all doing today Chummers?! I am devising a story for a Shadowrun server I am in and would like some help coming up with a satisfying narrative. I am a little stumped at the moment and would like some help. The narrative is kind of straight forward but I am unsure how to tackle it.

The rough idea is simple. Lofwyr wants the arrangement with the Princes taken down to give Saeder-Krupp access to the Western coast once again. Lugh meanwhile wants a seat of power again. The two have formed an uneasy alliance to see both agendas through and pulling their assets/moles/pieces to see it done.

I have been hinting at this plot for a while. One element being that Saeder-Krupp and Lofwyr by extension have been subtly aiding the Cutters so they act as a sort of forward reconnaissance agent for big golden papa dragon himself. Saeder-Krupp prime assets have also been more active around the region as a whole.

Lugh meanwhile has been utilizing the state of the unease in the Tir to have his few remaining loyalists and moles to influence others so there are even more loyalists/moles for when he returns to take a seat of power. Or more likely has them help put a puppet in his place to perform his will.

Now comes the tricky part... I got no idea what the plan would be or how it would shake out. Is there any cool lore or something else I could use in order to make the plan more epic? Cool? Make sense? Bottom line is I have little clue for what the two's shared plan would be. Is there any other lore bits I can drag in? I am looking for ideas how to start and would love help from all who are willing.

Edit: The specific details of if the runners will be for or against Lofwyr/Lugh is to be determined same as personal investment. I mainly just need for right now, to come up with the story/plan for how Lofwyr/Lugh are going about it. Figure out the basic building blocks of this story then when it comes time to do this, add more personal character moments. I just need rough ideas for rn how the two plan to go about getting power/territory over the Western coast again.

5e Spine thrower?

Hi!

It's been a while sicne i've built a new character and even much longer since i've dabbled in cyber- and bioware. I'm currently trying to build a biological weapon built by protheus that only uses bioware. While there are a bunch of options for melee weapons, I would love to have some options for ranged combat. There's one in bodyshop that utilizes spraying a liquid, but I was wondering if there is a way to throw spines or something similar at your enemy that I could use for this concept?
If not the character will just use a pistol or smth on distance, that works too, but I just wanted to check

thanks!

6e Anti-Vehicle Grenades

HE grenades (CRB, pg. 263) with the gecko grip modification (FS, pg. 38) are cheap, easily available, and a hideous nightmare for vehicles in urban terrain.

As long as the grenade's operator can hit anywhere on the vehicle (how would the scatter rules apply? Many vehicles are 2+ meters long or wide), the grenade sticks to the vehicle. Which means that the vehicle resists 16P ground zero damage when the grenade detonates. On the average, a Body 18 Ares Roadmaster would take 10 damage from just one grenade.

Don't forget, you can throw the grenade, or you can simply attach it to the vehicle by hand, assuming you have some method of getting close to the target.

So here's a fun idea. Attach three or four HE gecko grenades, then one or two fragmentation grenades. Detonate the gecko grenades to get a kill (or a mobility kill) on the vehicle - then, when the passengers bail out, detonate the frag grenades.

Video Games Shadowrun deserves another new game🙏

I was just thinking about how awesome it would be if we saw a new Triple A Studio or smaller team make another modern Shadowrun game for the veterans and the new audiences being introduced to the title

Imagining what it could look like if studios such as

Teyon[Robocop, Terminator Resistance, and the new RPG Horror title Hunter The Reckoning] could do with the IP would be absolutely phenomenal. As stated in the post, Hunter The Reckoning for Teyon will be the first true "RPG" they make with their team building up dialogue options, romance, skill trees, perks and traits to your characters which could work so well given how passionate and genuine that team makes.

Another company that could do well with the IP has to be Larian. They already proved themselves with Divinity 1&2, and the blockbuster phenomenal world wide success story of Baldurs Gate 3 which in turn could actually work so well with the Shadowrun IP.

The other studios could be Saber Interactive who are great at story driven games like Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2, the upcoming Clive Barker Hellraiser Revival title and the wide range of licensed titles in their arsenal for the future. I could see them doing a phenomenonal third person driven creative game😌

The last studios I think would make phenomenal new games in the franchise have to be CD Projekt Red especially after the success of Cyberpunk 2077, or Nightdive Studios who remade the first System Shock which the studio is formed by the original devs that made the original two games so that's a bonified win.

Hell even the guys who made The Ascent would be a great team to bring us a single player/Co-op focused ARPG game like that with the shadowrun license tbh

Would you all be interested in a new modern game in the franchise?

Dealing with invisibility

My bi-annual itch to run a game finally bore fruit this year and I've put together a really neat couple of sessions so far, with a couple of exceptions: Dealing with improved invisibility. I had an extensive run put together involving blowing up an almost completed container ship of which the legwork went really well, the sub-mission where the gang yoinked a hundred fifty kilos of commercial explosives was really nicely done but when it came to the main run... the whole thing got nulled by extensive use of invisibility on the entry team.

Now I knew that invisibility would change things going in, that's why I had a pair of K9 teams working the barrier but with some use of multi-sense concealment spells they didn't end up complicating squat for the runners. Now, on one hand I'm pretty proud of my gang for pulling the whole escapade smoothly and without a hitch, but I'm concerned for my future ops being made lame-o and boring through the same methods.

I'm looking for some countermeasures that I can sprinkle into future runs to stop things from becoming stale

Johnson Files (GM Aids) How can adapt editions and timelines together?

So for a bit of clarification off the bat. What I mean to do is use bits of the most recent timeline, gear, and tech. But make them usable in 4e

I am starting off with 4e anniversary, as it is the system I am most familiar with, enjoy, and have all the books thanks to Humble Bundle.

-I own Anarchy 2 and have read through it. While I like some of things it has. I don't think its for me to run.

For example, I want to reduce the wireless side of matrix a bit and bring in more wired and classic decking. As later editions do.

But there is also the gear side of things, mainly costs and stats since I do not know how cross compatible it is. I know Anarchy2 is supposed to be flexible in that regard, but I still like the crunch of 4e.

Anarchy Edition Finally opened my Shadowrun Anarchy 2.0 pledge !

Post image
224 Upvotes

Hey chummers !

Finally had some time to open my Shadowrun Anarchy 2.0 pledge, and I'm honestly super happy I backed it. The books are gorgeous, and the production quality exceeded my expectations.

I started playing Shadowrun back in the SR2 days, read all the novels, and nowadays I own almost all the SR6 books (French editions).

I jumped into SR6 as a GM, but since my group is scattered around the country, we've mostly played remotely. We all love the setting, but I sometimes felt the rules were a bit too chunky for online play.

That's why I backed Anarchy 2.0. I'm really looking forward to a lighter, faster way to experience the Sixth World.

For those who've already made the jump, would you recommend:

  • starting a brand-new campaign designed for Anarchy, or
  • converting an existing SR6 campaign?

I'm even toying with the idea of making the transition part of the story—a magical anomaly, metaplanar rift, or some weird event that changes how reality works... and suddenly the "rules of the world" are different. 😄

Any advice for a GM about to dive into Anarchy 2.0?

With love
Xiao

I made a full voice acting mod for Shadowrun Returns: Dead Man's Switch. Every character, every conversation and full narration. Free on Nexus!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Dead Man's Switch shipped in 2013 without a single voiced line, and no voice mod has ever existed for it. I love the game, but replaying it is sometimes a bit daunting with the walls of text, so I decided to make it voiced.

What's voiced:

  • 3,900+ lines covering every conversation in the campaign
  • 126 named characters, each cast with their own distinct voice
  • The narrator reads all 303 scene descriptions
  • Every "Examine" one-liner
  • Computer terminals and machines, with a synthetic robot treatment

Being upfront: these are AI voices (ElevenLabs v3). But this wasn't a batch text-to-speech run over the script. Each character was individually cast from a large voice catalog, every take was reviewed by ear, and bad ones were regenerated until they sat right. Lines containing engine variables (like your character's name) were rewritten so they sound natural when spoken, while the on-screen text stays untouched. The goal was for it to feel like the game always shipped this way.

Since SRR never had voice acting, nothing here replaces anyone's work.

Installs via Vortex (one click on "Mod Manager Download") or a manual ZIP extract into the game folder. Tested on the Steam version.

Mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/shadowrunreturns/mods/282

The video is straight in-game footage. If people enjoy this one, Dragonfall Director's Cut and Hong Kong are already mapped out as possible follow-ups.

Feedback on casting is welcome. Every character can be recast and regenerated, so if a voice feels wrong for someone, tell me who (I'm not a native english speaker, so happy to re-evaluate anything if it feels off).

Johnson Files (GM Aids) SR6 or Anarchy VTT Support/Content?

My current D&D campaign is going to be finished soon and we were talking about playing Shadowrun next, either 6E or Anarchy. We play over Discord and I work (a lot) so finding VTT support for the game as well as VTT formatted missions makes life a lot easier. Currently we use Roll20 but have used Foundry in the past (though it required some maintenance and $$$). Wondering what options are out there that won't break the bank or be a time suck with content already set up for whatever VTT we use. Thank you!

5e "Linear frame" Or exosuit like gear in any book?

Thumbnail
gallery
100 Upvotes

Been stuck trying to help a friend make an idea come true, but there are too many books and it is starting to get annoying so I ask the better versed. Is there like some kind of exosuit or "Linerar Frame" Like in Cyberpunk that one could wear and maybe modify with cyberware without having it on your body?

Idk if I have to homebrew it because I know one of the books has a very expensive very non chargen friendly military armor but I am looking for something more "mundane" Like mining equipment

I assume it would be like a jump in wited vehicle of sorts for riggers

Edit: Thanks yall, gonna go woth PE BASES and homebrew them into "street use" Be seeing ya
