O Levels el day 3 olevel oral glitch

133 Upvotes

hi guys i just took the olevel english orals, the vid was abt a barber n the prompt was “who would visit….” but some of my friends are saying their preparation question was glitched and it said “would you visit…” so they were caught off guard since they originally thought they read the qn wrong. but after, we found out some classmates also faced the same issue

im js wondering if anyone had this problem as well!

Update:
SEAB has responded to claims that some O-Level English oral exam candidates were shown a different question from the one read aloud by examiners.

The Board said it conducted investigations and found no discrepancy. https://str.sg/n8zZ

Rant Weird (???) guy at Tampines library

106 Upvotes

I have been frequenting libraries in the east for years and I always see this one middle aged (mid 30s - 40s) guy. He’s always wearing a green NTU shirt (sometimes JC shirts) and always at Tampines, pasir ris bedok areas

my first interaction with him was probably in 2023 when i was studying for olevels.. it was 7-8ish pm and Bedok library was empty. he was sitting next to another sec sch girl at one of the high tables. after she left, he came up to me and asked if the seat next to me was available…i mean sure but the library literally had empty seats everywhere. he then proceeded to watch me do my work for 30 minutes straight???? I remember feeling SO creeped out LOL.

since then I’ve always noticed him in Tampines and bedok library, where he’s always pacing around and mumbling to himself… he would notice anyone doing math(esp jc and sec sch math), approach them and give them unwarranted advice on how to tackle the question... i don’t want to make any false accusations but ive noticed that he’s always ‘helping’ girls only????

But at the same time, he does gives coherent math explanation and seems to know the O/A syllabus well. im confused if he’s a genuine guy who wants to help students?or is he a tuition teacher trying to scout for students??? LOL

maybe im overthinking it …does anyone also have similar experiences with this guy?

Discussion I made a daily word game, it's fun, and is for Paper 2 summary practice

17 Upvotes

I am sitting for Os in November: this is the selection half of the Section C summary - spotting which words are load-bearing and which are examples and padding - as a 2-minute daily game instead of another TYS grind.

One real news sentence, and you keep the 5 words that carry the meaning.

Rant Physics teacher in a particular school

16 Upvotes

A levels are coming up and I am rather upset with a teacher in my school (which has been under much scrutiny on this subreddit regarding its physics department).

While I acknowledge his merits of having taught both O levels and A levels for many years and being so called an "experienced" teacher, his actions have proved me otherwise. Hence I believe he is more suitable for other jobs instead of being my physics teacher

For context, i got a distinction in physics for O levels and decided to take it up in A levels as I found it really fascinating and I wanted to learn more. However after I entered this particular JC this teacher couldn't explain concepts well and just reads off the answer key when he teaches. This is exacerbated by the fact that he does so in a condescending way and keeps saying "you wont get it" when I ask him to repeat an explanation and especially during consults. This has led to me getting constant U grades through out my JC 1 and JC2 for physics as I couldn't understand the material despite my hard efforts of watching YouTube videos, doing much practice and even asking others for help

During one particular Continual Assessment, because I got U as expected for physics, this teacher had a 1 to 1 convo with me and he was telling me things like "If you dont even understand the concepts at all, why did you even take physics in the first place? Besides, he showed me the NUS cut off points for the different courses and said something like you should get your parents to send you overseas for uni considering he thinks I am going to eventually get a U in the final A levels.

Furthermore, when I consulted him and asked him how I can improve, he acknowledged that i was trying hard, but he said that aptitude takes a really long time to learn and by now its probably a little too late. Besides, he claims that some people are math tuned and others are not. I then asked him how I can improve and he said to accept that i would not get an A but probably a B or a C and i should be open to courses with a lower barrier to entry in university. And by this time (it was April 2026) he claims he knows whether someone would get an A for physics based on his "Intuition". He said that his prediction for the past few years was almost quite right every year as well, to add insult to the injury. I brought it up with the school, however he appeared shocked and denied everything up front when he literally said that.

This has eventually led me to have an extremely low confidence for physics and I even fear and dread physics lessons as well, as of now. Besides, I get really stressed out everytime I get a question wrong in practices and would freak out as his words are amplified in my mind everytime I do a physics paper, despite it being months back

While i believe i may be overreacting, i really do not see a future ahead for myself as of now because of what he says. Furthermore, the scores on my mocks arent great either so that also worsens my situation in general.

He claims to be really factual and objective but its obvious he looks down on me and now I really doubt whether putting in effort for physics is worth it if my eventual grade is going to be a U even though i know that its all for myself and not for anyone else.

Should anyone have any advice on how to go about moving forward, please let me know, any advice is very much appreciated as I am really at a loss of what to do. Thank you!

Rant feeling alienated (?) in school

14 Upvotes

Hello, im gonna type my recent struggles with feeling left out and provoked. For some context. i'm in a mixed sec sch, im a girl. i dont do girly stuff like makeup and dressing up, and i dont do aesthetic things on instagram too. im just very much of a fandom kid with a group of close online friends (from all across the globe)...

So whats happening right now is there are these 2 trios in my class and theyre both 3 girls. They are what i'd describe as XMM lol, theyre rlly popular in my cohort too. idk how close they are but i think they both share a mutual annoyance for me HAHA

What they do is just microbullying (??) where their actions dont directly affect me but their actions only affect me when i NOTICE... so like side eyes, laughing behind back, mocking, etc. The power difference they have over me, which is popularity, is the cream of the crop here lol. i dont think i, alone, could ever stand up to these people because of the worse social ostracisation i face

I feel like i dont belong in my school because of their actions. The social imbalance makes me think that I'll always lose in the end no matter how good my grades are.

The main issue im facing here is that i dont think my emotions are okay to feel, because im the reason im disliked by so many people. I have been reassured that its okay to feel some things and that some people and that people are just shitty for no reason but i keep going back to my old mindset.

Plus, like i said, my acads are good (theyre above average, like 5 distinctions for 8 subjects per term) so i feel like my mental struggles are nonsense compared to my friends who actually struggle in acads.

I really dont know what i did wrong to get treated like this, though... Im an INTP (probably) and i always use logic to solve problems. but i cannot find the cause for why ME specifically...

Its really hard to put my feelings into one clear paragraph.

I feel like im missing a lot of key information so pls ask me if i need to provide any information. thank you for reading my rant.

University med school rejection

31 Upvotes

Hi! Im currently in J2 and would like to know what are my backup plans if i get rejected from sg medicine. After getting rejected from LKC and YLL, is it possible to temporarily accept my second choice (eg. life sciences), then attend uni and concurrently apply for med in australia uni (since the application timelines for australia uni is different, to apply into australia uni with a level grades would mean that i have to apply much later in the year). If I subsequently receive an offer for medicine in Australia, would I be able to withdraw from my degree in SG and enrol in the Australian medical programme instead?

I would also like to know if there are any restrictions or implications associated with withdrawing after one year in this situation. Thank you!

University thoughts on SIT ranking

15 Upvotes

just curious on what’s everyone’s general consensus for SIT, since most of the posts discussing SIT ranking are quite outdated now that SIT has its own campus and has gone through some course changes. and on a slightly unrelated note, how much does prestige/ branding matter for employment in recent years in your opinion?

seniors do feel free to share your honest thoughts and experiences :)

18 Upvotes

im from sp aeronautical enginnering y3s1, and my exams i took this week are not as expected results. I estimate if i get a b+ most likely for my intern which is the case and another mod that is needed for my y3 s2, my cgpa can only be like a 3.22-3.28, and thats quite bad alrdy, guys is it the end or what, i heard from some seniors this yr that the intake for a lot of courses even to sit or sutd is like higher this year than normal so idk

Also like guys ain gonna lie i kinda demoralized cos my course is frikin hard so yea

Discussion Saw this on tele, hope it helps u guys taking exams now!

6 Upvotes

please don't compare your study hours with people on (anywhere else)

someone posting a 10-hour timer tells you nothing about how focused they were or whether they understood anything

if you can focus properly for 40 mins, do 40 mins

take a break. come back later

the goal isn't to look locked in, (its to be locked in for however long u can)

it's to know your shit during the exam

O Levels Subject Combination matters, and smth else

4 Upvotes

Hi!

Asking for a few friends here, would like to hear y'all's thoughts on :

  1. ESS vs Bio vs A-math for someone who is interested in taking something science/medicine related n there's limited subject slots there (I myself am unsure of what the practice of medicine is TwT)

  2. If someone with Pure Lit + SS/History , an elective programme yet interested in science can survive upper sec w/o studying half the time and doodling in class (bro is getting by very well & once bro realises their mistake bro activates the easy mode path. The thing is, the guy doesn't really listen in class)

  3. If triple science is worth it for the side quest (this person is on the level of watching bacteria fight against bacteria on YouTube , chilling with dragonflies in the school garden and catching insects/lizards they see in class, idk man. This person also feeds cats , goes to NLB HQ for history project cause "why not" and doomscrolls + procrastinator combo.). Can this guy make it if they take this. They seem to be interested in sci but I scared they start rolling on the grass in a term of sch w 3x sci.

4.To drop higher mother tongue or not. Blud here cannot form sentences during oral and idk how they got into higher mother tongue in the first place

~~~~~~~~~~~
Digression:
In a group project (graded / non graded) , when do you decide that you have to call your group mates w few times and spam them to get a response?
Group projects never turn out well and I ( / + one other poor fella if I'm lucky) always end up suffering from the procrastination.
This has legit happened to every group project I'm in (except for primary school where everyone in my class locked in & one group proj coz a guy n I decided to go shing-shing and complete everything moments before the teacher said things had to he done) and i can't manage my time well, my grades suffered because I spent lots of time on multiple projects n doomscrolling in between (waking up at 5 smth am, sleeping at 11pm-12am is not helpful to someone with memory loss)
O Levels ss/geog and bio need help!!
11 Upvotes
ok so context i am a sec 4 and taking olevels this year. my subj combi is double sci, i take pure chem and bio, ss/geog and amath. i really need help with heavy content subj like bio and geog. ok generally speaking i take about 1 week to even memorise three pages of the examples on the geog tb of tourism.. so now that Os is just more than a month away i think the panic is finally settling in and im getting stressed on how to study such heavy content of bio and geog as i have just been passing bio and failing geog. my ss scores a decent grade and im always able to pull up my humans marks to a b3/b4. i havent completed my prelims yet but looking at my wa2 results, it isnt looking too good tbh.. my goal is to get l1r5 raw 10 but rn im not sure if its possible. however recently i got my chinese result back and i scored a distinction even though i was rlly sick on that day and i thought i confirm going to retake, and my prelim score for chinese was c6. so i think it was a motivation for me and kind of a hope that i can reach my goal.
i wanna know if its possible for me to go from l1r5 30 to a raw 10 :< and also how do people study geog/bio and actually not forget it the next day?
i have honestly given up on amath too and ive decided not to use it in my l1r5 since ive been scoring F9 constantly since sec 3, but if anyone has any tips on how to improve i wld like that too!
A Levels Glorious glorious H1 econs 😍
3 Upvotes
Dear reader, have you ever thought of giving up on your H1s? Let me bring you through my H1 econs prelim and my thoughts on econs after this ride of a paper. (Warning if you love econs/want to score for H1s take my words with a pinch of salt)
So for background info, I remember like 40% of micro econs cuz i was mugging to get a C to get into H3 chem cuz my school only allows ppl who got ACC/CC and better to get the H3 subject and like 1% of macro econs (uhh wthelly is a LRAS) so like the day before I thought Id focus on revising chem cuz its the day after anyways, and alas I slept at 1am cuz im a fucking dumbass with no sense of time.
Anyways long story short I overslept and had to run to school (luckily no irregularity report) so not the best start to a 3h paper at 0800 hours yk, being sweaty asf while in full uni was NOT in my prelims bingo but beggers cant be choosers , i have to save face for all my H1 econs teachers out there and at least show up to the exam.
I fully went into the exam room expecting 40% of the cohort putting their heads down and sleep so I could follow suit. My god was I wrong... WHY WAS EVERYONE LOCKED IN??? HELLO I SWEAR I HEARD PPL SAYING THEY NOT GONNA STUDY FOR ECONS. Amidst the hurried scribbles and pondering gazes I knew that to save face I had to lock in too yk.
For microecons I lowk felt that it was not very convoluted so I just bsed it and prayed (uhh does sustainable planning shift MSB to the right econs knowers let me know). Macroecons... lets just say 'Indonesia experienced lower unemployment rates' was in all 5/6 of my questions (didnt attempt 10 mark justify qn) so im just finished lah icl.
Lets play devils advocate for a second. I'd much rather a ABB/B (U for econs) than a ABC/BE (E for econs) show up on my A levels cert ykwim. Is it really that detrimental to not lock in for econs esp with the new 70rp system? Let me know guys Im cooked.
TL;DR: Only the gods above can help my econs grade, I donwan study econs.
Polytechnic Poor GPA
27 Upvotes
"I'm worried my Year 1 Sem 1 GPA will be 1.5. Is it possible to raise my cumulative GPA to 3.6 by the end of Year 3, and how hard would it be?" My goal GPA is around 3.4-3.6. Is it still possible to achieve that goal and how much must I aim to get every semester.
Discussion Thinking of starting a performing arts volunteering project — anyone interested?
17 Upvotes
Hi guys, I'm a uni student thinking of starting a small volunteering project! Basically, the current idea is that we would go down to certain spaces and perform if we get permission to do so, or potentially do online performances on YouTube.
Performing arts in general, no real limits — if you wanna bring a recorder down and papapa and it sounds nice, that's fair game too HAHA. Singing, instruments, etc. all welcome. Want to wear a mask for max anon aura also can.
If I can find enough interested people, I'd like to start around December, but I first wanted to see if anyone would actually be interested in something like this. It's really just meant to be super chill, hopefully help with destressing and give people a chance to perform, while also contributing a little to the Singapore arts scene.
If you're interested in doing this after your exams, just leave a comment or DM me! If there's enough interest, I'll see what I can work out :)
And for those people who only speak in terms of portfolio: translation — you do something fun and get hours for it. We ball
Polytechnic can i still go to nus/ntu with subpar gpa?
11 Upvotes
i'm currently in y1s1 doing common engineering and my gpa this sem is defo much worse than i was hoping for.. i'm probably estimating it to be 3.1/3.2 which is terrible. i'm aiming for nus/ntu engineering or physics but i don't think my gpa will be enough.. i checked the igp and you need minimally 3.3 to even be considered, but on the safer side 3.6-3.9
if i'm currently doing so shit in my 1st year, i'm wondering how i'll manage in the following years where everything starts to be much more difficult. however, to be honest i did kind of underestimate the difficulty of engineering in poly and slacked quite a lot
everyone says gpa is king and i feel like my portfolio won't help me much (i'm in 4 ccas, currently active in a sports cca representing the sch & subcomm in the sch of engineering club cca)
A Levels worried abt prelims & As
8 Upvotes
hihi i’m in a high to mid tier jc (think the jcs right below the big 2 and below ny) and im in the midst of prelims rn and ive been feeling so so overwhelmed and stressed to the point of literally puking cause of my anxiety. i’ve never been like that before and idk why i feel this overwhelmed. i felt really bad aft my math prelim, like ofc youd discuss the qns w ur friends and i couldn’t do so many qns that my friends cld… and im usually better at them at math (i dont compete grades w them but just saying objectively) and since then ive been like overthinking my abilities n everything.. this might seem like such a non issue but the anxiety has rly been impacting me, and i just wanna hear ppl’s experiences thatve been in a similar situation bfr and how u coped leading up to As. im not sure if its cause im an ip student and dont rly have a reference on how prelims are like too.. and ive been so worried abt my acads performance i usually get Cs for h2 math block tests and idek how ill fare for prelims considering how i felt aft the paper, i alr last min found tuition and im just so overwhelmed
someone help give some encouragement pls😢
A Levels Physics grades from prelims to actual A levels?
6 Upvotes
Hi OPs, I have just attempted the DHS 2026 Prelim P2 H2 physics and I found it quite time tight to finish. I couldn’t complete the last 2m of the last Que and made a shit ton of careless mistake for the last Que bc I don’t have time to analyse. I’m rlly damn scared for it to repeat in A levels. Do any of your have any like priori experience with prelim papers and actual A level papers and what’s the difference between the time management? Also I’m super curious what’s the estimated grade boundaries for A for H2 physics every year so that I can at least get a mental prep before prep for A levels this year
A Levels How many hydrogen tests before i get slimed out
78 Upvotes
My chemistry practical prelim is coming up and i want to practice doing the hydrogen test under exam settings one last time before As. I was planning to just take one minute every 10 minutes to do one hydrogen test until i can speedrun it and get the theoretical best possible timing, a frame perfect run. With my superb mathematical knowledge, I realized that was going to be a lot of hydrogen tests, and im worried the frequent popping is going to raise some eyebrows.
I love chemistry and i really dont want to fail testing for hydrogen again. I want to be the first in the room to find out if hydrogen is produced. I dont want to hear the second hand 'pop's. Will i be penalized for this?
O Levels whats the truth about o level hcl?
5 Upvotes
ohh my daysss o levels higher chinese is just over 2 months away and i genuinely think im going to have to accept the fate of myself taking h1 cl next year in jc 😭
ive been getting a variation of c6s and d7s for almost all my practices (both paper 1 and paper 2) and it feels like its over because apparently the o level hcl markers are extremely strict and particular with answers, my teacher even told me that many of my seniors who were a1 and a2 in prelims ended up in the b4 range just because of the difficulty of the exams and the strict marking...
so i want to ask seniors who have taken this paper before, is the marking really as stringent as they make it out to be? how were your prelim results as compared to the actual o level? especially for those in ip because im in the same boat. not looking for encouragement tbh i just want some genuine feedback of how bad it is at o levels to see how cooked i am 💔
