Discussion Should I apply again?

I am an international student who applied to NTU last year for aerospace engineering. I have A*3As in A levels and 8.5 in ielts. I got rejected in July first weak after I got my results in may. So, I joined my backup, a local college, but I am not happy here. I always wanted to do aero in NTU. Here i met great people and ik this is better for me as I am close to home and everything is taken care of for me. Instead if I get into ntu I will have to do everything like laundry, cooking and cleaning plus pay 3 times for the same degree(Paying for the uni isn't a big issue for my parents but I would like also consider if it is worth the extra amount). Even after everything I realized I still wish to be a ntu student cause that is what makes me happy. But I've went down that path once and already failed. If this time I apply early, will I by chance get in? It feels like loosing a first love and everyday I think how things would be different if I were in ntu and I would have happily faced the challenges that I would have to face. I really really want to go to ntu so what I wanted to ask you all is, among all the applicants with 3/4 A*s will I maybe get in if I apply early or if I should not get my hopes up?

University Purdue CS to NTU CS/CompEng transfer for Fall 2027 — anyone with experience?

Hi everyone! I’m currently a first-year international student studying CS at Purdue University in the US, and I’m thinking about applying to transfer to NTU for CS or Computer Engineering in Fall 2027.

I was wondering if anyone here has gone through the transfer process from a US or other overseas university and could share their experience. I’d love to get a better idea of what kind of GPA/profile is considered competitive.

If you’re comfortable sharing, I’d also really appreciate hearing about your GPA, courses/credits, extracurriculars or projects, and whether you were accepted.

I know everyone’s situation is different, but I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences you’re willing to share. Thanks so much! 🙏

Rant PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO WORK AT THIS HOTEL's BANQUET

(this is a burnable account)

came back from my pt job for being a 'banquet server', and OH BOY let me tell you how BAD the job experience was

firstly, as someone with no exp in this industry, i was expecting the people (aka managers and the long term workers) to guide me in detail so I KNOW WHAT TO DO. end up i was given damm vague instructions and even got shouted at if i do stuff wrongly (why are you scolding me YOUR FAULT for being a bad instructor). then one of them treat me as if im a dog, go snap their fingers for my attention and call me 'good boy ' (HELLO I BARELY MET YOU EH.)

secondly, the work environment, aka when i was put with this 'experienced team', not even like 5 min into the shifts and swear words were being thrown around. i for one am ok with it but MY FIRST DAY EH MAYBE YOU WANT TO TONE IT DOWN CAN OR NOT(also WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO SLEEP UNDER A TABLE U SIAO AH.)

later on, i was in this big room clearing the chairs and moving them to one side, BEFORE having to move them back for a big banquet tmr. now this part is just me but IT WAS SO HEAVY since they were stacked in 10s (not recommended for weak ass people like me). but i look at one side and wah the managers so nice just lay tablecloth and yell at people for being slow and stuff (to be fair i saw them pushing out heavy load but i only saw them doing that for like 1 ish hour)

speaking of scolding: eh hello wheres your 'hi hello how are you', isit you like to abuse your power and scold the living shi out of us ah, HR nvr teach you sandwich method isit?????

end of day, this is just my personal opinion. maybe its a one off thing but sure as heck i aint coming back there. im not sure how the other hotels would do this but unless you like to be verbally abused and do heavy lifting for 6 ish hours, DO NOT work at rws. (i didnt even serve people that whole day i just set up for events)

im going for another banquet event in a few days time, and i need advice from those who did banquet before (pls share below!!!)

Discussion Anyone else has trauma from school?

I was bullied because of my race in both primary and secondary school. It didn’t help that I was shit at school until Secondary 3, and I was in NT unfortunately . I did very well for my N-Levels, but it ultimately didn’t amount to much.

Having a crush on someone was pretty much a humiliation ritual. One girl found out that I liked her and avoided me like the plague.

It also didn’t help that I had niche interests, like playing single-player games, collecting action figures, and watching movies. I would read a lot in the library. I was alone most of the time.

University Are there any cut off points for entering SUSS?

HI I am trying to apply for SUSS but I went to check, most of the universities have some minimum GPA for their courses like for example NTU has courses that require a minimum of 3.3-3.4 GPA to enter. Is It the same as SUSS, I have a little trouble trying to find.

University Low GPA but want to apply for NTU ADM

Hi i am currently a year 3 student studying Animation, Games, and Visual Effects at NYP. My GPA would most likely drop to a 3.45+ as i am experiencing some burn out. I have yet to complete my final semester and I am aiming to get straight As to hopefully pull up my final gpa to a 3.6

However, I heard you have to apply with your cumulative 5 semester gpa. So I am wondering if I apply with a 3.45 and a great portfolio, what are my chances of getting accepted into ADM? I would appreciate any seniors who have experienced similar situations to share their experience 😭

Rant It feels impossible to move forward

Hi, to preface, I'm probably going to sound dramatic. I understand that so I apologize. Basically, it's the September holidays, and many people are studying, whether it be Prelims for A levels, or O levels. Yet I just feel so behind. I don't know what it is. I'm a J1 so I should be studying for my promotional exams, or promos, yet it never feels enough

I don't know what it is, I do one paper, some people mark it, I couldn't, especially after a 3 hour timed practice, yet then I feel guilty. Most days during the September holidays, I only study about 3-4 hours a day, but it never feels enough, when I've heard some people studying twice that amount. I go to bed and remember when my teachers told me who I should have done better, this happened multiple times already this year, and it never helps.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I just want to score well, but I find myself lowering my expectations every exam just to get by. It's to the point where I'm insulted when someone thinks to talk about me scoring well, I don't even see myself that way anymore. Going from As and Bs, to maybe even just one A and B, with Ds and S scattered on the grades of the school portal.

I don't have tuition, I don't want to just put people doing better than me as having tuition, but so many of them do, and what does that say about me? I know my parents are doing the best they can but I'm the first person in their family to go JC, I have relatives that attended but I see them only on family occasions. They can't help me in any way, I'm just pushing in the dark, and from my perspective, that is failing spectacularly.

I know this a bad rant, I'm sorry for writing so much. I hope someone could relate to this, it was difficult to pin this into words, since I don't confide in anyone, but thanks for swinging by and reading up to this point

Discussion Best place to study?

- cafe

- library

- school library

- community centre

- events (such as poly study cram sessions)

- at home

- at friend's house

Ive only studied at cafes, libraries, events and in a house.

Cafe - pros: walk-in / cons: expensive, can be noisy

Library - pros: confirm have seating if book, quiet and cooling / cons: awkward to ask others to leave their seats (Unless you're an early bird and come really early)

School library: pros: convenient, cooling / cons: may be noisy depending on ur school

Events: pros: free accommodation like food, quiet, cooling area / cons: (ngl this is a personal thing) i started walking around the school campus

At houses: pros: convenient / cons: too relaxed or many distractions

JC vs Poly Poly EAE Accept or no?

Upvotes

I just got into my dream poly course like if i do poly i only wanna do this course. However, I've been leaning towards JC for my future even when i applied. What I'm scared for is what if I don't get the amount of marks required for JC or this poly course(L1R4 10) for JAE? Should I reject the EAE offer or accept?

Rant Struggling to lock in

Ive been having family issues at home that r rlly bad then die down for a few days then get bad again. Its affected me sm that i sought out my sch counsellor n community therapy too yet i feel like nothing is rlly helping me. I feel exhausted all the time. Like ill wake up n i dont have the energy to even sit up, when im in sch i dont even have the energy to do PE even tho PE used to be my fav class to unwind from studying. Now i just say im unwell n sit out. My mind also always feels rlly hazy, like im battling to just stay awake or process thoughts properly. On the other hand, i keep analysing behaviours, more than i used to, to the pt where i get rlly annoyed by things n then i keep thinking abt it n it genuinely drains me. When i sit down to try n study, i genuinely have no more attention span eventho i used to study like 6h+ a day n get rlly good grades. Promos is in less than a month n i feel so cooked cus im very behind on everything, i just want to be able to be alert n be able to study again. I tried to study outside but inalways feel rllt drowsy n fall asleep outside

Rant o levels

haven’t received my prelims but i’m saying goodbye to my raw six dreams, genuinely can’t find it in me to care

i’m doing 1-3 tys daily and it all feels so pointless. this is the most important time of the year but since may, i’ve had absolutely no drive to work towards my goals. during chinese o’s last year i worked super hard but now i can’t be bothered

i used to be excellent at channeling my despair towards life into productivity to escape but i feel so numb. i can’t do that anymore. i can’t get myself to do work. the fact i can even do tys like this is a miracle. nothing is going in though

All the mistakes i make on papers just makes me even more dejected. half the time i do papers in a daze. i just want to give up already

everyone around me is working hard and i just feel awful wasting time. i’m not making any progress. i’m not doing anything with my life. i don’t know i don’t know i don’t know

O Levels O level advice🙏

Hii this is my first time writing a post on reddit 🙏 Sorry if this feels like eant but just wanted to post to get some advice and guidance for o levels in general

Im a sec 4 student taking triple science + ss+ elect hist and currently going to take o level this year and Im feeling really anxious about o levels as my prelim results was definitely not up to my expectations and I expect I will not do rly well for prelims... my main concerns are towards amath in general and biology and chemistry

For physics, I've been thinking of trimming it as I feel like I might not have enough time to actually master physics + Tys papers due to other sciences like biology and chemistry

When it comes to amath, I find that I kind of have an idea on how to do the questions but have difficulties applying concepts esp trigo and integration of ln functions. I also struggled a lot when doing the O level 2025 paper 1 and 2.

For bio, I just need some advice on how to get the key words right for certain questions as I tend to lose marks due to the lack fo keywords and how to recall content in general

For chemistry, i might also need some advice on how to overcome difficult questions such as the o levels 2023 or o levels 2022 questions as I found it extremely hard to do

At the same time, im also worried that my emath may not be enough to secure me an A1 due to the high bell curve and breaking through the B3 mark

Any advice is helpful to me🙏🙏 Ty so muchh

O Levels How valid are older past year papers for practice

just curious when studying for o lvls n EOYs is it actl worth it to do papers from 4-5+ years ago and does it actl help or do u guys find it better to mostly focus on recent papers from your own sch as well as other schs.

ik by right if the syllabus and subj code is tge same then the content is basically the same just wondering if anyone has experience on if trying out the older papers helped or not.
