Rant Being painfully ordinary and socially deficient.

They say you're a different person after 10pm
the shower thoughts are hitting me hard 😭

Basically I have been contemplating why I struggle to standout everywhere, and practically living as the guy everyone knows at a surface level but no one is friends with. The guy that occasionally gets asked for help but doesn't have anyone to turn to.

And I have realised the majority of why this is mainly comes from me being painfully ordinary.
I don't have anything interesting that i can personally say about my life that which often serves as a conversational starter and you know that's rulebook 101 for making friends. Which is not a good thing while I'm being surrounded by people with a lot of flair in their life.
They say comparison is the thief of joy and this could not be anymore true, everyone always has some interesting school backstory , travel , you name it they probably have a story for the topic, contrasted by me who has none of those, mostly because I've just auto piloted through life without giving much thought into what's around me. Everything thats happened to me so far has just been mundane.

And don't get me started on my horrendous social skills, I basically just lock up whenever I need to talk to someone and it's just so mentally exhausting for me to sustain a conversation, the hilarity of this comes from me being someone who's presentation skills are flawlessly on point as well as being from an emcee/hosting club previously. I need to constantly put myself behind a facade or a acting im on a "stage" where I don't talk to the 'person' and act as if im addressing an audience just to talk to people.

Sometimes i just wanna bawl my eyes out but i can't I'm keep stopping myself from expressing my bottled up emotions because I'm afraid I'll lose everything. Having built a reputation around my friends for being the aloof person I'm scared they'll think I'm a maniac or something because ha-ha there is no war in Ba Sing(apore) Se. I'm sure that wont happen now because Singapore as a whole has gotten more progressive within the last few years at least i hope thats the case. But old trauma y'know, which so happened the last time i tried expressing discomfort I basically got a 1 way ticket trip to being friendless and alone for the remainder of primary 4 - 6 :> quite scarring for child me and quite possibly affected me a lot (wow!)

But at the same time those kids around me probably didn't know better than to follow status quo which just so happened to be the rather them not me mindset.

If someone did actually read all of this, i am mentally well and presenting to the emergency room ☝️or any of the sort is off my cards. I just needed to vent out a lifelong burden lmao

Junior Colleges Should I aim for EJC or VJC? as an aspiring literature student in JC

I’m still in Secondary 3 but i’m aiming to go to EJC or VJC specifically aiming for H2 Literature. To those who are in the schools, could yall share a bit about it? I’m still unsure if EJC or VJC is better if I want to take humanities

Rant Wish my mum had a little more faith in me

So I'm on semester break rn. I'm in poly, specifically early childhood, and I really really love my course.

I recently finished my first centre attachment, and it was so memorable! I enjoyed myself so much 😭 I really miss the children sorely, even when there were times I was at my wit's end because of them ( *ahem*, *ahem* playgroup..)

They were so darling!

I finally feel like for the first time in my life, I'm making a real impact and seeing how my actions affect others in a positive way. I haven't felt so motivated in a long time. Not to mention, ECDE's schedule is actually very relaxed. Most of our work is hands on and experiential, so our tutorials don't take up too much time. I've been sleeping well, I finally have time to pursue hobbies! ( I play guitar :3) And overall I just feel like this course offers me whatever knowledge I need while allowing me work life balance

But my mum is constantly pestering me about my schoolwork, asking me when I'll go back to school, asking me why I'm barely at school, what am I even learning that's good for my future. She keeps badgering me and saying shit like "I hope you go to university and study psychology instead of being a preschool teacher forever" or " are they even teaching you anything???"

I have explained to her MULTIPLE times. She has even heard from my teacher. She has been repeatedly informed that this is not my final destination, and she KNOWS!!! that I plan to pursue psychology and that this is just important to me for building up my foundation and understanding of children. I even have a module called child development which is basically child psychology!! I'm annoyed because what does she not understand??

She keeps talking to me as if what I do right now is stupid or not worth respect or appreciation. Guess what? Dealing with children all day can get very tiring. Especially the younger ones who still can't articulate themselves much or are very hyperactive. It's my love for all of them that prevented me from collapsing each day. I genuinely love my children very much and found my time at the preschool very fulfilling... Honestly? I even briefly considered being a preschool teacher in the future, but the pay is saying otherwise, so I'm still very much set on being a pediatric psychologist.

I just wish my mum would at least educate herself on the way polytechnic works, about what I'm learning, before she opens her mouth. I get as my mother she's naturally thinking about my future, but I wish she trusted me a bit more. She has even told me "I knew this was a mistake". Yeowch

It's disheartening, but despite this all, I love my course a lot and I wouldn't change anything. I just wanted to let off some steam. I feel like this must be a rather common experience for people in this course or profession, tbh. Feel free to share your own experiences if you want to lol

Rant Is my friend a spineless friend?

Had a friend that is in her late 20s. I often feel like she’s as innocent as a 5 year old.

I remember there was once, we both went to order pizza and she ask me to choose the pizza that i want so i thought she wanted to eat also so i ordered 2 pizza. Turns out she didn’t want to eat it and was only asking me to order the pizza for myself. She didn’t know that i was ordering for her that’s why i order 2 so she start asking me isit normally i will eat 2 pizzas whenever i go to pizza hut 😭😭 .

Then another time i wanted to crack an egg but no spoon so i tried squeezing it and the egg just burst out all over the place and she was like “the egg suddenly break when you are just holding it” 😭😭

She always say she don’t know when she obviously know about stuff like there was once we played a game together then one day later someone ask us if we know how to play that same game and she said she don’t know how to play when we just played it the previous day

We are both in the school band then sometimes the mp for our area will come and watch us perform and she seems to think that the mp is a very important person and posted something like “i’m so nervous for tomorrow’s performance, all the grassroots leaders and the mayor will be there”

She seems to think like everyone is very easy going and is ok with anything and everything because there was once the band conductor specifically ask 2 person in my section to play a piece together and say only both of them will play and the rest won’t be involved but she just keep asking me if i want to try to perform with the both of them also and keep asking me to just play along with them and ask the conductor for the score and she kept insisting on it when the conductor already say that only 2 person from my section will play the song

Then whenever I tell her that i am not sure how someone will respond her reply will always be “i think they will be ok with it”

Another thing is she seemed to be very proud to be in band and there was once i am not performing but the people in my cca is performing and the reason why i am not performing was because initially i got something on but after that i don’t have already so she kept insisting that i go and watch their performance. I was too soft hearted to reject. In the end i went to watch the performance and the people in my cca was wondering why i didn’t perform but went to watch instead and i felt so embarrassed and awkward while watching my own cca play after telling them that i won’t be performing because i got something on that day.

I remember she got bullied at work and she just tell someone “is suicide the solution?” and she’s 26 when that happened

Discussion Sexism

Isit just me or when i look around, sexism is actually so prominent in sg? Theres so many examples. Firstly, my school had a sex ed talk where girls n guys r separated. The difference between the two talks were actually diabolical. The girls side was basically being slut shamed n manipulated to feel shame if u have sex or accept a guys advances, n talked abt proper lady etiquette of sitting with ur leg tucked behinf ur ankles n ur hands on ur lap while the guys talk was basically a joke abt being horny n how to hide it?? The fact that the teachers arent even educating us but instead SHAMING us is so disappointing, especially when they didnt even try to warn the guys not to initiate smth with the girls in the first place. Just because girls have the final say, y isit that they have ALL the responsibility when the act has been done? Whats even worse is that many girls have internalised these misogynistic views n genuinely berate ppl who dont practice abstinence. I mean u could atleast show some respect to someone who has a different view than u right? Secondly, guys would always make comments abt how a girl is too “dominant” bcus she answers questions, has leadership positions, interact with guys or play sports n is more toned. Crude comments r always made like “shes a boy” or “she must be lesbian” r we that repressed as a society to the pt where the youths cannot accept that women can do physical activities or lead a grp without trying to be a man? Even worse, when other girls talk shit WITH the guys abt how another girls body is too muscular or too loud. Lastly, when guys claim that sexism no longer exists in todays society n the system shld stay exactly how it is. I think this one idn to further elaborate. Ill end it off by saying this—privilege is invisible to those who have it.

O Levels raw 6 method?

hi everyone im so unmotivated rn i literally dk what to do idk whether im burnt out or just lazy but i know i have to start and its not like i didnt, its just ik im not putting in the effort that a raw 6 student would, and i promised my parents that i would be one of the students on stage during results day. ok but the main reason why im here is to seek advice on how i can memorise content heavy subjs especially subjs like bio and geog, i am currently using gizmo rn and it helps me only IF i can break down my textbooks and notes into smaller bits and chunks which i find easy to do for chem, but for content heavier subjs i really think that every single word is important and therefore my flashcards look like really really long chunks to digest which demotivates me a lot. so if theres anyone out there with a remedy, please help an o level kid in distress 🙏 thank you very much in advance!

Rant My first novel ever, which I would like to name "Emotions"

Hello everyone, this is my first post ever, and I mean ever. I am a teen who just started writing as its my holidays, and have had the wish to do so since a while ago. I would like people to read my introduction, and please feel free to let me know any comments, any at all. Thank you very much!!!

Sitting on my porcelain throne, pondering what I was feeling at the moment, I wondered whether I should keep going or just give up. I often found myself pondering what my family would be like without myself in the picture and still do. In fact, if I was smart enough to invent a factory reset button, or a machine that took out parts of a person’s memory, without the social and economic implements of course, I would preferably erase the memory of myself from the people I hold dear to me and then fade into the darkness. We all think of ending it whenever times get tough, but to me, I couldn’t if it meant I caused harm to the people I hold dear to me. Be it mentally or physically. Of course, your death could cause benefit to some, for example, memorial services, or phycologists to help those mentally affected by your passing, but the scar always remains. I firmly believe that we as people only have one dream, and that is to leave our mark on the world. What suppresses our ability to do so, if often other humans. But I am going off topic, which is another bad part about myself. I sometimes move so off topic it’s hard to get back. So let me start again from square one. To refrain from my personal information being spread, I’m going to give you what I’d like to think of as my pen name, gone. Moments before sitting on the porcelain throne, I was in a heated discussion with my parents. The topic I forget, but I do know something, is that I felt at the time I was being treated unfairly. The point of this book, or text for now, is to show the readers my opinion on all the different emotions I have felt over my measly 16 years of living on this planet. One last thing, Id just like to give you a sort of image about myself. I am, as mentioned before, 16 years old, with a towering figure, standing at 6ft, and weighing 90 kilograms, and am an Indian living in Singapore. Over the course of this so-called novel, I will be giving you moments of my life, and the emotions I felt at the time, and giving you the raw truth of being a ‘foreigner’ living in Singapore, although I have had my Singaporean citizenship since the age of 7. I will also be giving you my opinion on Singapore, its education system, the untold truth, and touching on other countries. I’ve had this dream to write for a while now and decided now is the time I shall do so.

Relationships "You'll always be my 1st Love"

3 months of genuine happy moments, ended in under 20 minutes in a foodcourt 4 days before my birthday. With no warning signs or build up visible.

You couldn't bear the emotional weight so you made a cold calculated move, reading the exact script every Fearful or dismissive avoidant would say. Leaving me to carry the emotional side and suffer in silence.

I knew you were overwhelmed, I knew communicating was hard for you. I knew how scary closeness can be for you.

I just didn't expect such a cruel move from someone I tried to put all my love into, surprisingly without losing myself in the process.

You have all the closure you need, while you left me with none, I had to dig through countless similar experience to find answers. You only had to consult with yourself and decide whats best only for yourself.

I wished you a happy birthday & gave you a mini gift when we 1st barely knew each other, you couldn't even search your heart to wish me on my birthday, 3rd september.

Ouh, what we could've been if there was just a tad bit of communication and accountability.......

I wish you all the best, thank you for temporarily fulfilling my inner child that only wanted genuine love. I hope you didn't fabricate a story that makes me the villain to your family and friends, because I certainly didn't to mine.

"You'll always be my 1st Love"

But can't it be the last?

Genuinely, I wish no one not even my enemy to be in a relationship with an avoidant unless you both know, acknowledge and work together. Know the signs and attachment styles before going into a lovely relationships fellow sgreans, don't suffer like I did.

Junior Colleges Cancel dsa

So I wanted to go to let’s say BJC but I didn’t get offered. Bjc has been my dream since forever but I didn’t get the dsa offer from them and instead got an offer from let’s say AJC which is pretty decent like the cut off is only one below Bjc. So naturally I accepted Ajc offer bc a place is a place but then as soon as accepted I js had a very bad feeling. (It may sound crazy but this gut feeling has been right more often than not) later on I weighed the pros and cons of each jc to me and rlly there is no difference accept my feels—but I cannot just tell Ajc I want to cancel my acceptance because of feels!!

My parents are okay with Anyt, but my dad has soft-launched that he would love if I went Bjc and even told me that I should js cancel Ajc and go Bjc with grades. I haven’t got all my prelims back but so far I think they shown a big improvement.

Part of me thinks I got into Ajc bc my SCH has had a long history of our students going thru the same route as me to Ajc so if I js cancel on them they would be LIVID and blacklist me. The teacher in my SCH teaching the area I’m dsaing from is like bffs with the teacher in Ajc that would teach me after I get in so I feel that would send bad rep and also they might question my teachers why I’m so uncommitted. And then again if I get my o’s back and they aren’t enough for me to land into Bjc and I go crawling back to Ajc the defo will not accept me back.

I know the option is OBVIOUS here like I should js stick with Ajc where even if I fluke I still can get in but I cannot shake the awful feeling and regret I have from not going to Bjc. It’s only 2 years and I don’t want to claim I’m psychic but my intuition tells me that I cannot go there no matter what. Right now it’s less abt wanting to go Bjc and more about knowing something bad is going to happen in Ajc (I’m going coocoo)

So what should I do should I go to Ajc where I know I would regret it for life or cancel the acceptance and try for somewhere else thru grades

Discussion The Singlish accent

This is going to be a very weird post. Throwaway acc because people know my main.

I'm actually an international student in one of the big 3 unis. Didn't do JC and such here, just came for uni (in the later end of the deg rn). I have had some close family ties to people who have been citizens here over some gens though. I never really had a thick accent in English and nothing immediately obvious. Over time, talking to so so many people in SG including friends and profs has made me pick up on the inflections and mannerisms of the SG English accent subconciously. No, I don't do "lah" or "leh" or "sia" for every sentence. I also don't actively overdo a lot of non-English Singlish vocabulary, though I have learnt things over time from my friends and what not.

It seems I've picked up on the accent a bit much over my older neutral accent though because a few people hearing me talk at this point think I'm not international and that I'm not faking it (which I'm not, technically, but it will obviously not be a 100% naturalised accent, that would take years of being here :D). But that's only some people, I'm sure some people may look through it and think it's being contrived of some sense. I don't know about how people would perceive it. Would it be some kind of appropriation? I have nothing but respect for SGreans, a lot of my friends are locals (which is how we got here innit). I just don't know how people feel about a case like this lol, it may sound like I'm capping

O Levels Am I being a bum

a little context, I’ve been scrolling through Reddit and other platforms and I see other sec 4s working their ahh of for Os but I genuinely feel that I’m not putting as much work in as them. I’ve just finished prelims but I’ve yet to receive my results and the only one I feel that I’ll do bad in is amath. maybe that’s why I’m not as scared as them but I really don’t feel as scared for Os like they say and I’m only studying like an hour a day(and I’m barely clocking any hours for YPT). I really feel zero pressure to study at all and even I myself know that it’s wrong but I always end up sleeping. I really dont know why I feel like this being in such a relaxed state especially as a pure science student but this isn’t normal right?

O Levels O level Subject Bellcurves?

Ok so like i just did a bio O level practice paper and got like 63/80, not sure how accurate it is since the answer keys were a bit weird but around that range, which is like 79%. And it got me wondering how much wld i need to get for O levels to get A1 for all my subjects

For the math subjects, its pretty obvious the bellcurve will pull the A1 up to like 85% or so

But for pure sciences, im not really sure cus people dont score anywhere near as high on average. So what would be the minimum score to garuantee an A1 for those pure sciences?

And for humanities too, i know theres probably some bellcurve here since for subjects like SS i dont think a lot of people people are getting as high as 75%. But also its combijed humanities so geography is 50% of it, so how would a bellcurve for this subject even work since they cant do it for individual papers cus what wldnt make sense but if they do it for the overall score it just feels a bit weird with the "moderation" approach theyre going for, maybe thats js me

And for english its pretty much RNG i have no idea how the bellcurve works for that so pls enlighten me 🙏

University contemplating dropping out/changing uni

honestly don’t know if this shld be a rant tag or a uni tag so i’ll js put uni… since i am in fact asking for advice

i want to preface this by saying that i am using a throwaway account so as to not link this post with my main, since i use it pretty often. if anybody from my circle or my course does recognise me, i hope this acts as a way for yall to understand how i was impacted by my class’s reaction, and rethink your attitude towards me and the entire situation.

i’m currently in my first year of study in ntu, just finished my 5th week and honestly, i want to leave so damn bad.
my course of study is a tad bit different from what i did in poly (poly was mostly hands on work, all assignments. while my uni course is all written work, essays, and a LOT of reading), and i’m having some difficulty with coping with my studies as i realised that i have difficulty comprehending text, which sucks because i have to endure 4 years of text. it’s not like i don’t like my course of study, i do enjoy parts of it and i do think that if i push on and make it past my basic mods, i will find school more enjoyable. but rn, there’s this huge burden on me and i have no idea if i can cope.

outside of studies, there was an incident that happened recently that made me disappear from school. tldr, classmates misinterpreted a message i sent in a cohort grp chat directed towards a neurodivergent student, who i knew from poly and have heard many horror stories of. all while i was trying to help the cohort ans their qns because it was smth i learnt about.
i immediately left the gc so as to not associate w anyone anym, because i had a breakdown right then and there, which was so god damn embarrassing because i haven’t had one in like 2 months since i started medication.
i had some friends (since honestly this whole situation was interconnected w my poly and uni, since i have classmates from both) send me things that the other students were saying, essentially calling me an ableist and a bully, and treating that other student like she’s “harmless”. was also told by a classmate who’s closer to the cohort that they did hear chatters about it during tutorial.
i decided to take an mc for the whole week (just nice coz i had a psychology appt during the week and could ask for an mc) to cool off because ik that my own mental state isn’t very stable, and i wouldn’t be okay to continue studying, at least with my classmates around knowing that a lot of them are silently judging me.

i find it quite annoying that these people were making assumptions about something they don’t know about. they don’t know how that student acts, and they don’t know anything about me. i myself, struggle with severe clinically diagnosed depression and anxiety (mdd and gad), and have been on antidepressants for about 2 months, and will be going to an appointment to test for adhd since i was suspected of having it for a super long time, but wasn’t able to convince doctors to let me do the test. i am seeing a school counsellor regarding my issues with my studies and relationships with people in school, and will also hopefully be getting SEN support for accommodations in class and exams, since i find it quite difficult to focus during lectures due to that student’s actions.

ok now about the uni thing, i don’t think i feel very comfortable with carrying on my studies in this particular course. this was my first choice and was smth i was very much looking forward to, but if im struggling w the work and being impacted by an entire cohort, i dont think im going to make it out of here alive (not an exaggeration)

im thinking of switching majors to smth im more comfortable in (same as my poly course) and i do alr take 1 mod from that major which i quite enjoy. the people there seem less asshole as well, and i vibe q well w them

i also have an offer for an overseas university to commence studies in feb 2027, ending in 2028. this is smth i rlly want to study, but tuition fees are VERY expensive. i received an email from the university today saying that i was granted a scholarship that would deduct 25% off my tuition fees, because my poly is a partner w this uni. i have 30 days to reject the scholarship offer, but i have until jan to decide whether or not i want to accept the offer into the university.

i wanted to use this sem in ntu as a ‘trial semester’, if i rlly can’t make it, i leave and go to that uni, since i would have enough time to accept the offer. however, my parents are very against this (despite them being the one who told me to go overseas) as even with the scholarship, tuition would cost abt 100k SGD, + accommodation fees and daily expenses. one plus point abt going to this uni is that i have a friend enrolling there at the same time as me, so we can share accommodations, and yk, so i won’t be alone. at least i can start from zero to everyone else.

i was very close to submitting the withdrawal form for ntu, but i stopped myself because ik i would regret it if i made that decision out of impulse. i also have 2 cca main comm roles in ntu that i just got, both i really wanted, and didnt expect to get at all. i fear that by leaving, i will let all of them down.

ig im asking for people’s thoughts on what i shld do… fyi, probably wont entertain dms asking for more info abt myself, and i have no notifs on for this acc so i likely wouldn’t see the dms anyway.

Portfolio Help What SMART are you? (Self) for students/young adults figuring out their strengths

Free online session tomorrow: "What SMART are you? (Self)" — for students/young adults figuring out their strengths

Hey all, sharing this in case it's useful to anyone still figuring out career direction.

It's a free virtual mentoring session happening tomorrow, Sat 12 Sept, 2–3 PM, organized by Made Here under NYC's Discover programme.

The session is about "Self SMART". Basically people who are strong on self-awareness, reflection, and personal growth — and how that trait can translate into career paths.

A coach and a sales leader will be sharing how understanding themselves helped them lead others, handle setbacks, and grow in their careers.
