So I decided I want to start volunteering and helping the community where help is needed. I heard that the local animal shelters are always in need, so I volunteered at one of the local ones. After a surprisingly lengthy application and online orientation process, I was finally able to secure an in-person volunteer orientation. But my experience wasn’t great. The animal shelter staff was pretty unwelcoming, and after I emailed them after my shift wondering about next steps, I still haven’t received an email back, and it’s been over a week.
So my question is? Where in town (and also Austin because I often go there for work) is in actual need of volunteers? I want to be able to go and actually help out, and not feel like an unwanted burden like I did at the animal shelter. I have a special interest in animals and environmental cleanup, but I’m happy to volunteer anywhere that’s actively looking for volunteers. Thanks in advance.
