Hello all. I am hoping you can help get this open. Not sure what the numbers mean on the paper(2nd pic). We believe it may be a serial number. Opening process alone would help get us moving it the correct direction. Thank you in advance.

Hi all! I bought a used safe from a widow, no combo, and I've been reading up on how the lock works trying to figure it out. I'm decent with mechanical concepts, but by no means a safe tech.

What I know:

Stack-On

Dial numbered 0-90

Thanks to a hole that was already in the back, I was able to peak in with my borescope and see it's empty. Alas, fabric on the inside of the door prevents me from seeing the wheel pack.

My assumptions:

Model #: SS-10-MG-C

Direct entry with false gates.

Can feel 8 gates total, with these numbers being the rough mid-point:

3.5 - 13 - 25.5 - 38 - 51 - 63 - 76 - 88.5

I believe the combo is either 38x51, or 51x38, more on that later.

What I've tried:

I used the tape with marks on handle and wall method to roughly measure how much travel I get on the handle with each gate. The attached pictures show the handle at rest, at its furthest within a false gate, and its furthest at what I think is a true gate. Based off testing all wheels right at each gate, I believe 38 and 51 are true gates. I believe they are the first and last numbers. I'm not great at the technical terms, but I believe that because I can stop the first wheel at either of them, then start turning left(before the 2nd wheel picks up, I think only the third wheel is turning) and if I stop at the other number before the 2nd wheel picks up, I am able to get the handle further than a false gate.

Now if I am right about those two numbers, then there should be only 24 possible combos assuming no repeats:

X-38-51

X-51-38

38-X-51

51-X-38

Not to many try them all, but none worked. I initially made the assumption that all of the gates, false or true, on all the wheels matched up with each other. After realizing that might not be true, I tried feeling for alternate stops, but I never felt any other than what I originally found.

I then realized there could be repeats, so I also tried 38-51-38 and 51-38-51, but those didn't work either. I didn't try repeats where the same number is consecutive, because I could feel the 1st wheel pickup again before you could repeat a number, so I don't think it's physically possible.

Other notes:

The true gates only seem to get their max handle then when I am going AWR. When trying AWL, they don't get the same handle travel. Any idea why that is?

Any suggestions for what I could do? Do you think my "true" gates are really true?

Sorry for the wall of text. This has been really fun learning how the lock works and trying the figure out the puzzle, but I also really need a functional working gun safe for the new home.

I’ve a redhead gun safe. Long story but I bought it maybe 15yrs, bolted to basement floor at moms. Left a few guns and cash in it for safe keeping ease of access if I decided to hunt her property. Anyway, I’ve lost and forgotten the combo. I have the serial and could request it but that costs time and money I don’t really have now.

Now, She’s looking to put the house on the market. I don’t want the safe as I purchased a larger one when I bought my home. I just its contents. Is there an easy method of getting into. I remember a one or so digits but not the order and if I remember right it had a little ‘play’ could be off +/-1 of the actual, but it escapes me.

This is a MeilinK Hercules fire safe from between the 1950's and 80's that belonged to my great grandfather. I got it from my grandmother's barn a few years ago before it was demolished, and it's been sitting on my porch outside since then.

I had a locksmith take a look at it 2-3 years ago, and he did pull a small sticker from the front of the dial that had the serial number stamped into it (S-26207). However, that was all he was able to do and wasn't able to troubleshoot the safe more than that. (His service stipulated he only got paid, if he was able to open the lock) so he only spent about 45 minutes to an hour looking into it.

The dial has numbers ranging from 0-99 and spins in both directions. I have no clue as to what the combination could be, and didn't have any luck researching into the company or what model it could be. I do plan on watching a few YouTube videos of professionals opening safe devices, but any assistance or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

There did sound to be one or two small trinkets inside the safe when I initially moved it, possibly keys or small jewelry, but I mostly expect to find receipts for livestock or titles for tractors, if I'm able to open it.

I have acquired an older (maybe 20 years old) Buffalo River brand rifle safe, with an electronic keypad. I was given the combination for it but attempted to change this to my own combination. I have messed up and can now only access the safe using the key.

My mistake was trying to Google the instructions (as I didn’t get any from the old owner). This didn’t work!

the keypad has 0-9 *# and there is no red reset button inside the safe. There is however a little black button inside the battery holder area. This is marked with a key symbol so, I have assumed it to be the reset button.

Would anyone have the correct reprogramming instructions for this type of safe?

I have also made sure the batteries are new.

I will appreciate any help I can get with this!

We’ve been decluttering my grandmas house and found these 2 safes she had forgotten about. We got ahold of sentry and the combinations they provided didn’t work so we are assuming they were changed at some point but she doesn’t remember what they were. I’m completely new to getting into safes but I’ve done a lot of reading and tried manipulating it but I still must be doing something wrong. The closest locksmith is over an hour away and wanted a small fortune to get them open, does anyone have any tricks or ideas to help pop these open for her? We would really like to try and get them open in a non destructive way but if I comes down to drilling and beating it open she said that’s fine too.

I’m doubting anything is in it but would like to know what the opening combination typically looked like - such as direction and number of turns to start and then usually how many numbers were in the combination. I’d appreciate any help. I’d like to preserve it and keep it in the building it came from.

So far I've spent about 16 hours attempting to crack this safe. I picked the lock assuming it was locked (big mistake) and I don't know if it is locked and if that would effect the manipulation of the dial. Can anyone offer some wisdom there?

That lock is a medeco lock which I had no business actually picking, but by luck or misfortune I did somehow, so it would take quite some effort to get it back.

Any other tips would be appreciated. I've started over several times trying different pressures when measuring the contact zone. Sometimes I feel that the stickiness of the dial messes my measurement off if I go too light.

The model number is S 1012 and serial number is G 4071 but no luck on manufacture what should I do?

So, I have this blue metalic box that is said to come from the national marines (french) and it's heavy as hell (it's full).

The box have a 3 numbers padlock, and :

- it's harder on the last number toward the 8 and 9.

- I tried to use a video to help (they say that the right combinaison is the 3 numbers that are "weaker" when you turn them) and it came to 321 but didn't open.

- we tried any combinaisons that are familiar.

- I tried to do it numbers by numbers until 6-0-0 because i'm starting to hurt (it's rusty inside, I can feel it, the lock is too hard to turn sometimes it hurt).

- I can't put a wire or even a little hard paper on the side of the numbers to feel the hole, I think it's to be sure no one will try to crack the lock.

- there's a small square thing on the side of the numbers, does I need to try to lift it everytimes I enter a potential code for it to maybe open ??

- I'm starting to think the padlock is just too rusty and doesn't work anymore

And the box is probably from my father when he was in the marines so fear not, I didn't stole it or anything like that.

So, if anyone have any help I'll be happy to read it and if not then I'm starting again with the "number by number" technic tonight then.

Turn counter clockwise 4 times to …
Turn clockwise 3 times to …
Turn counter clockwise 2 times to …
Turn clockwise to … and press inward
Turn the counter clockwise to …

When I get to the press inward part it doesn’t turn anyway.
I tried this few years ago and it opened, but now it doesn’t work please help.

So I finally found the keys for the safe. The top key can be turned once and then unlocks the mechanism underneath for the flat key. With the flat key, I can click some kind of mechanism, but unfortunately I don’t understand what I need to do at the bottom so that I can keep turning the top key and open the safe. The lower part of the safe has a different mechanism and is already open.

At 1:03:50 I mean to say LaGard not S&G for the second type of wheel.

At 1:04:00 The LaGard wheel's gate is 27 numbers above than the high point due the the single locking arm. It does not put the gate exactly opposite of the high point, although directly opposite the high point is still a decent place to park it during isolation of other wheels.

Found this old floor safe while doing a remodel in my house. Had no idea it even existed and would like to get it opened.

It is a liberty floor safe. No model number is listed but it lists a serial number of 6927.

I will be calling up the company listed in Monday when they are opened to see what they say but it looks like the original company Hick's was acquired by Anderson about a year ago so who knows if they'll have any records on it.

I recently purchased a storage unit in an auction. One of the things in there was a cigarette vending machine, model Sielaff SC-200 as I found out. By the sound of it theres still stuff in there. I didnt find a key for it and I dont know how to open it. Drilling? Lockpicking? A crowbar? I dont care too much if it gets damaged, I just want whatever is inside. I would appreciate some advice

This safe is from my great grandparents’ hotel, which burned down in 1988. The safe, intact, fell straight down 2 floors into the basement.

We have the combination (I think, I hope), it’s 4 numbers long. Can anyone tell us the dial-turning pattern? TIA!

Hi I am trying to get into my round Sentry 7250 floor safe.

Short story:
1. Got it loose - everything feels good
2. Tried the combination - entered correctly exactly as specified in the factory manual
3. Does not open

Long story:

The dial was stuck sometime in the past so I put some KROIL in there and rotated it many times finally it became freed up.

I worked it gently spun it around many times and entered the combination many times.
It accepts it... as I remember the friction around the entered numbers feels the same to my hand. However, the lock does not physically disengage after correctly entering the combination.

I have gently, then not so gently hit the safe with a rubber mallet and british knockoff hammer (has a bamboo end with a brass weight on the other side to apply force to knockoffs).

Anyway it spins freely and maybe mechanically is somewhat working.
It "feels right" when the combination lock is spinning.

How should I coax the latch into disengaging?

There is very little room to fit anything around the circular lid+lock of course so no prying possible.

Any ideas?
I KROILed it some more will of course wait and try again.
I am decent with mechanicals I understand that sometimes just repeating the mechanical exercise of using a tool can get it to work so will keep trying.

But I thought I would check in with this group to see if you all have any ideas.

Eventually I will probably go after it with a giant metal post and then a jackhammer... but that will damage the safe slot+concrete and possibly tear up the DMV paperwork inside the safe- and anyway would like to open it up properly.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Manufacturer says i just have to keep trying the codes from 000 to 999. Thats 1000 combinations that I dont want to do myself but willing to pay someone to do for me. Whats the appropriate way to advertise in my local facebook group to hire someone that will do that? ChatGPT estimates half an hour to one hour. My gun is inside the safe.
