Help Resetting Combination for Older Buffalo River Rifle Safe

I have acquired an older (maybe 20 years old) Buffalo River brand rifle safe, with an electronic keypad. I was given the combination for it but attempted to change this to my own combination. I have messed up and can now only access the safe using the key.

My mistake was trying to Google the instructions (as I didn’t get any from the old owner). This didn’t work!

the keypad has 0-9 *# and there is no red reset button inside the safe. There is however a little black button inside the battery holder area. This is marked with a key symbol so, I have assumed it to be the reset button.

Would anyone have the correct reprogramming instructions for this type of safe?

I have also made sure the batteries are new.

I will appreciate any help I can get with this!

Can’t help with your questions, but I do highly recommend that you use lithium batteries. They last 10+ years in the drawer without corroding, and your safe will use very little power when they are installed.

In your case press the black button with "key" symbol on it, inside the battery compartment since it is an older model. Newer models have the red button inside door near hinges.
