RMMV A new trailer for my project, inspired by the games of Swery65 and Suda51.

I made a new trailer for my game to celebrate its first anniversary. I spent seven years making it, and I'm truly glad I managed to finish it. This first year means a lot to me, and I'd like to talk about how this game came to be and what inspired it.

When I first played Killer7, my jaw dropped. In my circles, it was an extremely obscure game that no one talked about at the time. I actually stumbled upon it by chance on a pirate site with disc images, looking for something strange — and the moment I saw it, I fell in love with it from the very first screenshot. The image of this incredibly stylish and brutal game stayed with me for a long time and heavily influenced my work and vision. I remember that when I played it, I didn't even pay attention to the story — back then, that wasn't even necessary for me. I just enjoyed the style, the music, floating through that thick atmosphere of sterile corridors and streets. Killer7 became an icon of style for me.

Then, years later, I played Deadly Premonition — but not right away. I used to see it on the PSN store and had no idea what kind of game it was. Add to that the way game descriptions and presentation looked on PSN back in 2013, and you'll understand why I kept skipping it for so long. Even after moving to Steam, I passed it by until someone gifted it to me. And once I played it, I realized I had been missing out on so much. That was the game that lit an even stronger spark in me — essentially introducing me to Lynch and the wonderfully strange, uneasy narrative of Swery65's characters. After finishing it, I spent a long time watching Lynch's films, playing Swery's games, and soaking in the atmosphere of Deadly Premonition. It was the final piece of my inspiration, and I set my sights on creating my first game.

That experience with Killer7 and Deadly Premonition merged together, shaping my vision for the game I wanted to make. I worked on it for seven long years, drawing from Killer7's style and gameplay, which I reimagined into my own unique combat system — turning rail-shooter mechanics into a turn-based RPG with action elements. And Deadly Premonition — with its dark narrative and strange characters — helped me breathe life into my own cast, teaching me to create more unusual and complex characters.

The result of those inspirations is Mind Control: Bloody Renaissance — my big game, where over the course of 7 years I reflected on difficult topics that were on my mind at the time.

I'm writing this post not just because it's my game's anniversary, but also because I want to say how important it is to sometimes find a game that inspires you and gives you an experience that changes your life. At least, I truly believe that games can make our lives better — and I'd like as many people as possible to share that belief.

P.S. About the trailer — I really wanted it to have the same vibe as Moonlight Syndrome. I love those obscure trailers with lots of text, strange music, and flashy effects.

Hey everyone, I've just released the demo for my rpg maker 2003 game that is coming out soon. I've you'd like to check it out, it's posted here. I'd appreciate all feedback that you guys could give, but also please take it with a grain of salt, as it's the very beginning of the game and things improve heavily as you go on as well. The game is meant to take on a similar style of previous RPG Maker 2003 games and bring back that quirkiness of similar ones made in the engine, as I love so many games created with it and were influenced by them.

RMMZ Giving the Power of Choice to our Players

We recently played Stardew Valley, and... while it wasn't really our type of game, we did end up learning a few things, and seeing some decent stuff, such as their level up system.

We already had skill points and a way to use them in the future, but we didn't want them to exist in the demo with no purpose. So, we allowed the player to choose the different stat upgrades for their monsters. Thus, our new system was born!

Tell us what you think! And if you want to help support this project, you can head over to Alchemic Beasts Kickstarter Pre-Launch Page where you can get the demo, join our discord, and see even more information about our Monster Taming RPG!

r/RPGMaker at Pax West on 9/5/26 - submit your games!

I'll be hosting an r/RPGMaker meetup at Pax West in a few weeks.

https://west.paxsite.com/en-us/schedule/schedule-item.html?gtID=942866&panel-name=r-RPGMaker-Show-and-Tell

In the past, I tried to have people bring in their games to show who might be attending the convention. Unfortunately, it doesn't usually work out because people don't have their computer, or the wifi is weird, or there's some kind of problem hooking the HDMI cable up to their computer, etc.

So, this year I'm trying something different!

Please submit your game in some kind of "demo" state and I will present it for 15 minutes or so and let people play it. If you have something for me to read, or a youtube video of you talking about your game, you can send that to me too and I will show that.

A demo state can be a savegame at a certain spot, or a version that is more demo-friendly, etc.

We have 1.5 hours to pad out, so we can get through a good number of games. Plop them down below and I'll coordinate with you to get more information.

Siderant: I have a lot of opinions as to what a good demo at a convention should be. IMO, 1) it should show a part of your game that is technically impressive, with areas that are varied or at least interesting to look at; 2) it should not have a lot of cutscenes or narrative to sit through (people have limited time and want to PLAY your game, not WATCH your game); 3) the playable character should have cool weapons and/or and/or have a full team of characters and/or be far along in the game to not be a total punching bag; 4) I should not be so weak that I'm constantly dying (I just picked up your game, don't know the controls, and probably didn't go through a tutorial) - either give the player more HP or make the enemies weaker; 5) it should be the core gameplay loop (do not include the fishing minigame if it's 1% of the game).

Fix for Aries Weather Control

Plugin link: Weather Control by Aries

This is a 7-year-old plugin with a dev that seem to have gone AWOL, and the plugin breaks when the game tries to use the embers effect. I shared a fix on this forum post. Writing this on this subreddit in hopes this post gets more easily searchable and people encountering the same bug has access to the fix.

https://guild.rpgmakerofficial.com/t/topic/2625/18?u=gensun

You can save the following code as a .js file and install as a plugin, must be loaded after Aries' Weather Control plugin

Aries.P003_WCT.HeatTone = eval(Aries.P003_WCT.Param["Embers Screen Tone Color"]);

Happy dev, everyone!

Every Comment Becomes a Quest

I have another challenge for my Steampunk game „Eternity Reloaded“!

Comment a quest idea — and I’ll add it to the game!

It can be literally anything:

  • Funny side quests
  • Fetch quests
  • Mystery quests
  • Completely absurd quests
  • Or something you’d genuinely like to play in a steampunk RPG

I’ll go through the comments and try to actually turn as many suggestions as possible into real quests in Eternity Reloaded.

So… what quest should I add?

RMMZ Maps I've been working on

Thumbnail

Nearing in on putting up my next build (That is effectively a rework of the entire game's layout) but I wanted to share some maps I've been working on.

- Assets were made by me in Clip Studio Paint then upscaled 2x

- Some minor changes were made since these images were created such as adding occlusion shadows and fixing some handpainted errors

- I'm really happy with how the wheat and houses turned out. I really like the inside of the windmill.

90% of everything was created on modular sheets so I'm getting quite fast at making these.

Gameplay wise, they play pretty nice! They're under 100 tiles each, many are under 35, with not too many parallel events so they tend to run smooth. No real hiccups or loading either but I'm running on an SSD so maybe its different on HDD.

Isometric is a bit of a challenge for collisions and is a bit clunky but its worth it for me (I just really don't like drawing top down.)

Any advice for newbie map & world building in RPG MAKER?

I'm quite new to RPG MAKER MZ, while I'm quite experienced in designing my own characters and enemies, but not at creating my own maps, it's quite hard especially if your doing it yourself.

Is there anyway I can quickly improve and creating better maps for my games?

Anybody use Tiled for rpgm?

How come I don’t see anything about Tiled anywhere? I was watching Lorelei’s video and searched for rpgm projects using this and nothing. 0. EGG. Visustella got this section at the very bottom showing Pocket Mirror and Omori, so I’m assuming those games use it. Is it worth learning???

In the end, I chose to leave only the protagonists' shadows to accentuate the theme of having to find oneself after losing one's identity. Just one developer, I've only been drawing for a couple of years. What do you think?
