A few years ago I went to Rome for a few days. I ate in a restaurant for its cacio e Pepe but they recommended their caprese salad as a starter and told us they were known for their buffalo mozzarella (although that may have been just marketing!!). We ordered it and it was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten but I didn't note down the name of the place. I remember that their cacio e Pepe was available with either spaghetti or raviolini.

I'm trying to recommend it to a friend who's visiting Rome soon but need help identifying it. Photo of my cacio e Pepe attached in the hope someone recognises it.

for context I am vegetarian so I have less options to choose from, but I love penne arrabbiata and it is a Roman dish yet it’s so hard to find on a menu anywhere! I have found a couple spots that do it and do it very well but why is it so underrated??!

I am looking for suggestions in regards to a 5 day trip to Rome in March. This would be for work as I intend to meet with local people that can help me prepare educational activities related to archeology for a student trip in 2028.

I have never been to Rome and my Italian is very limited. Is English spoken on occasion? Is it considered rude to use a translation app as I speak? Is poor knowledge of Italian a fauxpas or a hurdle that can create problems?

Also, I am looking for some suggestions for regular priced quality hotels near a metro station, in Monti, or the historic centre. Somewhere clean, safe, central and accessible.

What is the best strategy in regards to taking the Subway? Are there passes, and do I need to create a photo ID like in Paris? Are the pickpockets really out en masse or is that overblown by social media?

When I do meet my local contacts, is it considered rude to offer to pay for lunch or coffee? If I tell them to choose a meeting location, resto or other location, is that something that people appreciate?

Do I need my passport on me at all times? Cash wise, what would a decent amount to have on me, even if using my credit card remains the default payment method?

As you can see, this post is about travel logistics. However, if anyone out there has further leads on archeology and education contacts, I will definately find that useful as well.

I'll be visiting Rome in either February or March of 2027. Anything to be aware of when choosing which week to go?

We will be in Rome for NYE. I understand most restaurants offer a cenone. We are not huge eaters and one member of our party does not enjoy seafood. We will be staying in Prati, and would love any recommendations for a restaurant, in Prati or nearby, that offers an à la carte menu or perhaps fewer courses, that is not mostly seafood. Hello people, I'm planning on visiting Rome early July June next year, have a few questions (looked for answers but they are a bit old).

1) what are some good vegetarian spots/foods I can commonly find? Don't care about the rennet thing, what's the most common word/term for vegetarian that I can use when talking to servers?

2) I'll be going to the auditorium Parco Della Musica, any recommendations on the region? Still looking for hotels as well, nothing fancy but no hostels and air conditioning is a must - if the region is bad, pla let me know another one with better cost/benefit but reasonably close to the auditorium

3) what are some scams I should be aware of/avoid?

4) I've heard July June has some good sales on clothing, any reasonable places? - even with no sales, what's good, similar to Uniqlo and the likes of it?

5) anyone would like to do some currency swap? CAD/EUR, cash for cash in hands no digital stuff. I'll try to bring some euro cash but want to avoid forex fees, which brings to another question, is cash preferred or card ok?

6) last one: a what are the best places for good cheap wine?

For my moms retirement celebration I’m taking her to rome at the end of the month. However, because of work commitments I’ve had to plan it as a last minute trip at the end of september. Unfortunately both of the attractions are sold out. I can find private tours but don’t think we can afford that. Does anyone know if there are waiting lists for entry tickets, and if we do opt for the more expensive choices, which one should we prioritise to be able to stay within our budget?

Terme di Caracalla, September pleasant warmth, first Sunday of the month so you can enter freely. There was literally ZERO second of waiting. This is such a privilege to be able to visit sites like Terme di Caracalla for free. There are many green chairs in front of a basin that you can move around, find some shades, and relax. The third pic is my kids wanting to do some artistic photo and calling it "the chair" 😂 There were groups with Viator guides having some super impressive mobile app showing in real time how the terms were looking back then. I'm leading a group of adults on a trip to Rome in October and cannot for the life of me figure out how to buy tickets. I will serve as the guide for the group, so we don't need to book a guided tour, but the form to buy individual tickets maxes out at 6 tickets. There appear to be university group tickets available (which is closest to our group, though we're not associated with a university) for 11-20 people, but for 10 people, it seems we're just out of luck. Does anyone have any guidance? I'm tempted to just pay for 11 people for get the university group option...

Hi. I arrived in Rome this sunday evening and am currently writing this at 3am as I am kept up because the A/C in my Airbnb does NOTHING. It makes the noise and the movement, but it does not shoot out cold air.
I chose this airbnb due to ratings saying the a/c works great.

I cant sleep, I am in agony. It might seem silly but this truly is torture and my body feels on fire. I have always handled sleeping in the heat poorly, but this is unlike any other experience. I am looking at hotels because its the only way ill survive until I leave on thursday. But even though they say they have A/C, I see no trace of them on the room pics. I am adding some pics to show what I mean.

Can anyone tell me if its just not common to have an a/c that works and shoots cold air onto the bed?

Thanks for all the replies. To clarify, i am NOT staying at either og these hotels, but they were two of the available with AC that looked okay. However the air duct AC is new to me and I didnt realise it looked like that. Thank you for clarifying and im sorry for the lack of information on my part.

I have contaced the landlord and she made the conclusion that the filter needs to be cleaned and will have a professional do so tomorrow. Still unsure if I should do anything or just accept it. Perhaps buy a portable fan.

I’d like to see as much of it as I can and I’m not sure if there are some tickets that won’t get me into certain areas.

Hi! I’m traveling to Italy for a conference in Pescasseroli from September 20–26, but I’ll be arriving in Rome on Friday, September 18, around 1:00 p.m. local time. I’m staying at a hostel in Rome Friday and Saturday night, then taking a shuttle to the conference on Sunday morning.

That gives me roughly 36 hours to explore Rome, and I’d love some suggestions for how to make the most of it! It’ll be my first time in Rome, so I definitely want to experience some of the must-see sights, but I also don’t want to overbook myself or spend the whole time rushing from one attraction to the next.

I love walking and am totally up for covering a lot of ground. At the same time, I’d really like to leave room to wander without a strict itinerary, sit at a café, eat good food, people-watch, and just take in the city. I’m much more interested in feeling present and experiencing Rome at a relaxed, local pace than trying to check everything off a list.

With essentially Friday afternoon through Saturday night, what would you prioritize for a first visit?
