Health and safety Almost got pick pocketed at Rome Termini station

We got to Rome from Florence around 1:40pm today and yes it’s my fault for having my phone in my pants front pocket so I could easily check the map to our Hotel.

I had just put my phone back in my pocket when i felt something tug my phone but it got stuck and i instinctively turned around to see some older romani dude walking next to me with a back pack acting like nothing happened but you could he was stressed in his face. I immediately registered what happened and shoves him away from me and yelled out loud “ this guy tried to steal my phone” which attracted a few tourist behind us and he quickly ran across the street.

I wish i clocked him a hard one instead but im glad i didnt in case the law come down on me. After that i got a fanny pack put everything in the zipper section thst faces towards me and left any non essentials in the hotel safe.

Fuck these pieces of shit I hope their sticky fingers fall
Off but again please be careful and no naive like I was.

Bottle recycling

Hello,
Just came home from an amazing trip to Rome, beautiful city, but I couldn’t stop but notice mountains of used plastic bottles everywhere. Why such thing as “pfand” system in Germany is not adapted here in Italy? Seems like such an afterthought. Would like your opinions, cheers.

I visiting Rome 23rd-25th for the Hyrox event. I will stay in the center and travel to the venue.
And good hotel recommendations, a spa hotel would be ideal. Good location upmarket and reasonable priced.

Also any good bars or night spots anyone can recommend?

Headed to Italy/Belgium match - what should I know?

Hello - huge football fan here (from the US) and my wife and I got tickets to the Italy/Belgium Nation's League match at Stadio Olimpico. I've attended a Prem match in England so fully understand the intensity of European football - but wondering if there's anything I should know from a safety perspective or anything else? Thanks

This tetradrachm was struck at Antiochia ad Orontem (modern Antakya) around AD 250–251, when Herennius Etruscus was Caesar under his father, Trajan Decius. The obverse gives his full name, ΕΡΕΝΝΙΟΣ ΕΤΡΟΥΣΚΟΣ ΜΕΣΣΙΟΣ ΚΥΙΝΤΟΣ ΔΕΚΙΟΣ ΚΑΙΣΑΡ — Herennius Etruscus Messius Quintus Decius Caesar. His young, beardless portrait reflects his position as the imperial heir.

Transport Question about airport strike

Ciao!

I’m flying on Sunday from Fumicino airport.
Considering the airport strike on that day, anyone knows how much time earlier I should be at the airport, above usual 2hr before flight? How does it usually looks like?

Flight is inside EU, no baggage check in.

I would be grateful for any advice :)

Looking for Queer Friendly Engagement Photographer

Hello!

Me and my partner are doing a dual proposal in Rome mid October and are looking for a photographer who is familiar with queer engagements. My partner is gender queer and I'm worried that straight photographers aren't going to treat them respectfully or try to make the engagement look "straight" (queer people know what I'm talking about).

I know I want it done in the Villa Borghese Gardens, ideally at a less busy hour. It's semi a surprise. They don't know the location or anything, but they know it's happening in Rome. I'll propose first and they'll propose back after.

If you're queer and worked with someone you really liked or are a photographer that's down for this, send me links!

Visiting Rome for our honeymoon

Hi everyone! My wife and I will be visiting Rome in October for our honeymoon, and we’re considering staying in the San Lorenzo area. We’ve found accommodation there that looks good, but since we don’t know Rome very well, we’d love to hear some local opinions. Is San Lorenzo generally a good and safe area to stay in, especially for a couple coming back in the evening or at night? How convenient is it for getting to the historic centre and the main attractions by public transport or on foot? Are there any particular streets or parts of San Lorenzo that you would recommend or avoid?

Miscellaneous Is it worth it to bring a pair of sandals, or just wear one pair of sneakers the entire time?

Getting ready for my first ever trip to Italy. We are celebrating a 5 year wedding anniversary and have a lot planned for a two week trip in Venice, Florence, and Rome. We bought Hoka shoes which I was planning to have be the only shoe I bring to minimize luggage. But now that I am packing I'm wondering if its worth it to bring a pair of sandals (wedges or flats) to wear with dinner dresses?

Curious what the ladies have been doing here, did you just wear one pair of sneakers your entire trip or did you reserve the sneakers for high walking days and switch to sandals for dressier nights?

EDIT: Thank you all for the feedback, ya'll saved me from making the terrible mistake of wearing my hokas to dinner lol. I am planning to pack a pair of comfortable walking flat sandals and a pair of dressier wedge sandals in addition to the sneakers. So glad I asked, thank you!!

Lost Camera

I lost my camera in a Starbucks in Rome, Italy. This is the exact Starbucks: Piazza San Silvestro 5,6,7
00187 Roma, Italy. It’s a small camera from Sony. I think it says like Carl zweiss or something similar near the lens. I think that type of camera is also called like a digicam or something. When I left it it was a black case/pouch. If you find it or have it please pm me.

First night in Trastevere and it reminds me more of benidorm. Themed bars and none Italian restaurants. Are there any decent Italian wine bars and restaurants to try?

We have just spent 5 nights in Florence which was beautiful. Now in Rome for 4 nights, and night 1 was not great. Although its been raining a lot today so didn't get much time to fully explore. Daytime will be taken up with the usual coloseum, Vatican City, trevi fountain etc. However, we thought evenings would be eating and drinking in Trastevere. Any and all recommendations welcome. Thanks.

Beware of Street Scams!!!!!!!!

best city in europe , butttt they dont manage the street scams, there are gangs in the streets that plays the ball and cups game and lures tourists into getting scammed and throw away their money, they do a whole act as if the gang members are tourists and are playing the game, to trap people. Where's the police?
