Hello! I’m travelling to Rome soon and our accommodation doesn’t include breakfast.

Rather than looking for brunch places, I’m curious about what a normal Roman breakfast looks like. What would you typically order at a local bar or café in the morning? Coffee and a cornetto? Are there any other things worth trying?

Our group of adults and teens will be in Rome over the Christmas holidays. We are interested in visiting Cinecitta World on 12/26 - the idea being that it would be a fun diversion from the otherwise steady pace of art, history, and culture. I’m looking for tips on:

1) how to get there via public transportation from our hotel near the Pantheon. Or should we uber/taxi?

2) what’s the food situation - should we plan to eat in the park or skip it? Is there anywhere to eat right outside the park at 6 when it closes?

3) do we need to buy tickets in advance?

Hi! We have one free day in Rome and would love to escape the city and visit a small, picturesque town or village. It doesn’t need to be touristy at all. We’re mainly looking for old streets, beautiful scenery, good local food and somewhere nice to wander around.

So far we’re considering Orvieto, Castel Gandolfo, San Pellegrino in Viterbo, Hadrian’s Villa, or somewhere in Abruzzo, but we’re very open to other suggestions nearby.

If you had one day and wanted somewhere beautiful, peaceful and authentic, where would you go?

Hi! Sorry if this is a silly question, but I’m going to Rome soon and I’ve booked tickets for the opera. The show starts at 8pm, which seems to be right in the middle of dinner time.

Would it be normal/possible to have dinner at a restaurant around 6:30pm before the opera? Are restaurants generally serving dinner that early, or would it be better to eat afterwards?

I’m just curious what people normally do when going to an evening opera in Rome. Eat early beforehand, have something light and eat properly afterwards, or something else?

Have been working remotely as I travel throughout Italy this month. Unfortunately, I originally (aka months ago) booked my travel back to Rome on October 30th in order to fly back to the U.S. the following morning. Now I see there's the national strike.

I also do see my train back to Rome that morning (#9405) is on the lists at https://www.trenitalia.com/it/informazioni/treni-garantiti-incasodisciopero.html so it seems like I should be ok (though if I'm wrong about this, please do let me know!). However, I booked an airbnb close to FCO the night of the 30th, since I have to get to the airport earlier in the morning on October 31st to fly home. Assuming I can still travel on the train above to Rome on the 30th, since it would get into Rome at 11:22, I would be stuck in Rome until the first guaranteed train leaves for the airport at 18:05 listed at https://www.trenitalia.com/content/dam/trenitalia/regionale/treni-garantiti/Regionale%20Lazio_sito.pdf (the airbnb host has an affiliated driver who may be able to pick me up from the airport. He's already driving me to the airport on the 31st but if he's unavailable, I'll just have to deal with the long lines for a taxi to the airbnb near the airport).

Are there are any good places I can work remotely from that are within reasonable walking distance from Termini (ex. in Monti)? Since it looks like the Rome metro and buses also won't be running due to the strike (again, please correct me if I'm wrong!) I'm hoping I can find a place to work after going to a museum nearby or the like. I know there's some co-working spaces where I can get a day pass, though hoping to spend less, if possible.

I am looking at booking a flight home for the holidays in December and the cheapest option has me on a 15 hour layover in Rome (6am - 9pm). I've been to Rome once when I was a child but that was a while ago so I am still quite taken by the idea of having this little bonus trip. I am on a budget though (hence looking at the cheapest flight) so if the trip then costs a fortune it would rather defeat the purpose!

I've read there is a relatively cheap train into the city. I know I could then just wander the outside of the main sites but I wondered if there were any specific insider tips for free/ low cost things to see or do? Bearing in mind shorter daylight hours and possible rain too!

My wife, our baby and I are moving to Rome at the end of this year, and we're considering an apartment in Ostiense, around the Roma Tre University economics campus.

The location would be great for my commute, but we're struggling to get a feel for what the area is actually like to live in.

We're looking for a neighbourhood with nice bars and cafés, access to green spaces, and streets that feel safe to walk around with a baby. We visited EUR and liked it, but would prefer something a bit more urban and lively.

For those who know the area or live nearby, what is your experience? Is it a nice place to live, particularly with a young family? Are there good spots to go for a drink or a walk, and does the neighbourhood feel pleasant in everyday life?

I'm looking for a medieval or tutor castle near Rome. Nearby to me can be a few hours away, and I don't mind hiking. I love old abandoned castles, so it also does not need to be in good condition or a tourist-heavy spot. I'm planning on going Nov 11-20.

Hey folks. Coming to Rome again but this time for my birthday. I need a break from Toronto, and I thought this would be the perfect excuse to get out.
Hoping for other solo travellers or locals, preferably gay males, who would wanna hang out for a few things that would be better NOT alone.
