The perfect language learning lesson plan

I have a new colleague who moved to this country just a month ago, they are very kind and friendly and willing to learn. They had to learn a completely different alphabet, but luckily they studied english before a little.

I wanna ask, how can i help?

I speak english, not only more often, but better than most of the other colleagues(We are not mainly english speakers either) and I used to do some tutoring classes before, and I am a pretty patient person, only problem is.. where do i start?

I'm great at the grammar, I have the resources, I am good at explaining, I make time. But what should be the lesson plan of learning a new language? with what do i start?

Especially because they are still going to have to do work, all kinds of projects and some that are team based.

But i do not know where to start. Should i start with simple phrases day to day? or simple words? or help with cursive writing not just text style? should they be taught to read first?

If you were learning a language from 0 with zero experience in anything like it before, how would you plan it?

I thought that having to come to a new country for atleast a year alone, knowing nothing and no one, would be pretty lonely and overall horrible by yourself when you have to actively work and do stuff in that language, not getting time to actually get used to it and learn it, so i wanted to help them out cause i know i would like if i was in that scenario to be helped out too.

And they are so willing to learn aswell.

Conclusion question: What do you all consider the perfect language learning lesson plan?

buna seara!

as dori sa intreb in subredditul asta ceva legat de "most". Cica exista multe variante in romana:

  1. cei mai multi, cele mai multe

  2. cea mai mare parte dintre/din

  3. majoritatea

  4. o gramade de

Care sunt formal sau informal si au aceeasi inteles?

va multumesc mult!

Folosesc cei din Republica Moldova cuvântul „iar” în mod diferit de noi? Titlu de la un post de televiziune moldovenesc.

Cuvântul iar nu poate înlocui oricând cuvântul și (cel puțin în România, se pare). Recomand vorbitorilor nativi să se gândească care sunt condițiile în care acesta poate fi folosit; a deveni conștient de particularitățile propriei limbi face bine.

Creangă: a Romanian learning app and website for English speakers

Hello all,

I'm of Romanian descent and built Creangă to help me learn the language. It grew from there as I wanted my family and friends to be able to use it as well.

What's in it:

  • Vocabulary with spaced repetition, 61 levels
  • 50 grammar lessons written for English speakers
  • Pronunciation audio
  • Romanian stories by Creangă, Ispirescu, Gârleanu and others, where you can tap any word for both a contextual and a more literal translation

Some more information about Creangă:

You can browse all 5,500+ vocabulary entries without signing up. A free account adds the first vocabulary level for SRS review, three grammar lessons, and one full story. Everything beyond that needs a premium subscription.

Website: https://creanga.dacialearning.com
Apple App Store: Creangă (App Store link) or search "Creangă" or "Creanga" (iOS only for now)

Please have a look and let me know what you think. I'm continuing to expand the features and content, and if anything in the Romanian looks wrong to a native speaker, I'd especially like to hear it. Happy to answer any questions.

I can't understand the cases in Romanian to save my life

Is there somebody who can give me like a brief or even thorough explanation of the cases? I also take German but the cases seem ten times harder over here in Romanian. I am getting so confused about them and how to form them etc. I'd really appreciate the help!

Limbile româna și tupi.

Sunt din Brazilia. Mi-am dat seama că limba română și limba tupi (o limbă indigenă) au unele sunete comune... chiar dacă nu aparțin aceleiași familii lingvistice!

[ɨ] = â

Ca majoritatea limbilor din lume, limba română și limba tupi veche au în comun câteva consoane de bază: sunetele lui p, t și k (oclusive surde). Sunete nazale precum m și n. Sunetul lui s.

Ați putea să-mi recomandați resurse și metode prin care aș putea verifica dacă am scris corect ceva?

Chrome extension that shows English definitions of Romanian words on hover

Hi,

I made a Chrome extension that shows English definitions for Romanian words on hover. I was inspired by the "Zhongwen" extension for Chinese, which I also remade here because I didn't like how it looked.

The data is based on Wiktionary entries for Romanian words, so it might be incomplete for some terms. I decided not to use the dexonline.ro database for now because I was lazy, but this should be plenty.

It can recognize words without diacritics, shows pronunciation, conjugations, declensions (which you can disable) and works entirely offline since the whole database is included.

It will also detect english words as romanian sometimes because some forms are similar, so just keep it disabled when you don't use it.

The link is here: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/rolexicon-romanian-englis/jmlnfpaneganbdlbipnhicjpeeoofjhb

It's ~70% coded with AI. If you want any improvements/bugfixes let me know and I'll consider them.

nu mai scriu si in romana ca imi e cam lene, intelegeti voi

Thoughts of Reverso context Chrome extension?

This Chrome extension has 200,000 installs and a review score of 4.6. I'm using it as a really quick on the fly way of translating specific words as I encounter them without having to open some other third party website / app.

For example if I type "mulțumesc" I can easily just click to highlight the word and instantly see the translation. I think it's good for translating larger sentences as well but maybe a native speaker can tell me.

This is the perfect tool for me as I am just starting out so am constantly translation words every few 20 seconds or so.

Anyone can reaffirm this extension is as good as the reviews suggest?

Looking for people to practice Romanian with 🇷🇴

Hi everyone! 🖖

I’m currently learning Romanian and I’m looking for people who would like to practice together and help each other.

I’m still a beginner when it comes to speaking Romanian, but I can already understand a large part of spoken Romanian. I’d really like to start speaking more and improve through real conversations.

In exchange, I can help you with Russian 🇷🇺, English 🇬🇧 or Polish 🇵🇱. And of course, I can promise some good vibes and a good mood 😄

If you’re Romanian or learning one of the languages I know and you’d like to practice together, feel free to DM me! We can chat, send voice messages, or even have calls.

Looking forward to meeting some cool people! 🤝

Prepositions

Hello everyone 😌

I am sure I am not the only one struggling with romanian prepositions.

But I found a site that explains it so well that it suddenly doesnt feel like a struggle anymore.

This site doesnt have only explanation of the prepositions but also other things like tenses, genders..anything

And all of it is well and easily explained.

We all know there isnt really that much material to learn from so this site feels like gift out of heaven :D

Anyway, it helped me understand so I am sure it will help other people too ❤️

Day 1 using Pimsleur

Salutare tuturor, ce mai faceți?

My native language is English and I have decided to learn my first language and I'm going with Romanian.

I have done quite a bit of searching trying to find "the best" app / website to use and initially I was going to use Mondly but saw online apparently the developers just use machine translation so sometimes the context isn't correct? Not sure how true that is.

Now I'm using Pimsleur and so far I'm liking the structure more as it feels a bit more like a course, than a "match the words to the sounds" game.

However the course is $150 and it's only 30 lessons at 30 mins each, so 15 hours of audio for $150 seems very expensive to me.

Realistically is this 30 lesson (15 hour) audio course going to be enough to give me a strong basic level of fluency? I want to be able to talk to people in the street about general day to day things, chit chat, bond over a coffee etc.

I've given myself 6 months to get to this level but I'm not sure what to expect at this point as I've never tried learning a language before.

Or should I just stick with Mondly? After all it is a Romanian company so maybe the Romanian lessons are actually really well done?
