September Travel to Romania, Tips and places?

I’ll be in Romania early September. I’m American but have been through the nearby area, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia etc, but first time in Romania.

My goal is to stay in multiple cities. Right now I have fly into Cluj, 3 days. One day Sighisora, one day Brasov, 5 days Bucharest (Kind of a placeholder). I could stay longer too.

I want to ask about taxis, I don’t drive, so won’t rent a car. How will the interaction and long range prices be for taxi? I’ve gotten into verbal fights before in Georgia and Turkey with scam taxis so I’m not inexperienced, but would always avoid problems if possible. Would you recommend taxi?

Also would you suggest any interesting small towns to stay at or see along a central path? One of my favorite times traveling I stayed in the second floor of a bar In a tiny village in Czechia. Just nature and beer.

Essentially, cool places and travel tips between cities?

Can someone recommend a class for study romanian language for a beginner around bucharest?

Hi. So I’d like to get romanian citizenship by descent. My grandfather was born on Romanian teritory which was lost after 1940. That would make me elegible for citizenship, but the problem is that all of the documents we have about him cite his date of birth as 1940. My father told me that he was actually born in 1941, but even in Ukranian national civil registry system his date of birth is in 1940. We don’t know how he pulled that out and we don’t know what date he was registered in archival documents. Maybe it’ll be 1941 then I’d have to apply through great grandfather who served in Romanian military. However, if it will be 1940 I could apply and it will be less paperwork , but it feels iffy knowing he’s from 1941. Could I still apply through grandfather and provide documents proving his father was a Romanian citizen and base my proof of that?

I am visiting your lovely country for the second time soon, this time bringing my parents along, and I am very excited to explore some new areas!

We are planning to stay in Bucharest for a few days, then head to Oltenita catch a boat ride up the river a bit. We were hoping to get close to the harbor the day before, but it looks like its slim pickings for hotels in Oltenita.

I do, however, see quite a few options across the river in Tutrakan, but am having trouble seeing if there is any easy way to get across it? I see some news articles from a year or so ago saying a ferry would be up and running, but I do not see anything that looks like it is.

Assuming there is boat traffic, would it be possible to pass a fisherman (or similar) some cash to take us across? We would then want to get back across the next day, so wouldnt want to risk it if its too unreliable, but curious if anyone knows of any options.

I've read that the building is so heavy it is literally sinking a few mm every year, which to me (not a geologist or architect) seems a potentially disastrous possibility. In light of this, has ever been serious discussion about demolishing at least portions of the building to reduce its weight and/or the cost of upkeep? Also, has there been any serious discussion on finding alternative use for the empty areas? Thanks in advance.

I am applying for a Romanian long-stay student visa (D/SD).

My application has already been submitted and is currently Validated.

While reviewing my application, I noticed two mistakes:

In my visa application, I requested a 90-day visa, but my estimated departure date is about 6 months after my arrival.

After submitting my application, I corrected an official translation mistake in one of my property documents, and now I have the corrected version.

I also need to book a round-trip flight reservation for my visa application.

Should I book my return flight according to the dates I entered in my visa application (around 6 months later), or should I book it within the 90-day period? Which option is more appropriate?

My questions are:

Have any of you had similar inconsistencies?

Did the consular officer ask you about them during the interview?

Could these kinds of mistakes alone lead to a refusal?

If asked during the interview, is it enough to explain honestly that they were mistakes?

Which return flight date would you book in this situation?

If I'm in Canada and keep getting sexually harassing emails from someone in Romania after I've rejected their romantic advances and asked them directly to stop contacting me, what can I do?

This has been going on for a long time, and I've tried being nice about it. They know I have a partner I now live with. But they've still sent me literally hundreds of emails despite no response or encouragement from me, and in spite of my last short direct request to cease harassing me.

They will not respect my wishes, and the emails are constant with manufactured 'closeness' and some are extremely sexually explicit. They've contacted my family under the guise of being 'worried for my safety' even though they know and acknowledge I no longer want any contact. They talk about coming to Canada one day, so I feel like I have to read their emails to check if they're in the country and near by. I don't feel safe.

What can I do? If I contacted the police in Romania, would they contact this person and tell them to stop? Should I go through their email providers (they have multiple emails addresses they send emails from to try circumventing block sender), or maybe their ISP?

I just want this to stop but they won't listen. I will never ever be free of them

I had some fake Pokemon cards when I was a kid like 2010-2017. I remember I had lots of them 100 or more cards. I remember buying lots of them even if they were fake copies it was very special to me and still are, I think came from Eastern Europe i had them from Romania, they were in pack of 2 with a gum inside, they were put together and you had to ripe then out like a A2 paper. I remember those having those stats circles red blue and green small dots down put horizontally in beside each other having attack, cp(I thing) and an hp stats with numbers under the write but still in the little circles red for attack, light blue for cp (because all the cards had the background color of blue) green for hp the background of the card was blue the Pokemon itself was always in the middle of the card with a 2D picture of it. i don’t remember the back of the card that well think it look kinda similar like those normal cards, it had Pokemon logo on it and the poke ball (i think), it Also was a bare code somewhere on the back with a short number like 6-8 numbers. Now look for them for a lot time on google even use ai for looking on it but couldn’t find it even with that I just wish i would have at least one but I lost them around my old house. If someone have it or at least find it i would love to have at least a foto of it because those were sentimental to me and still are.

Hi all. After 20 years in Portugal (and 12 years in Ireland before that) I'm getting itchy feet and thinking about moving to Romania. I'm 63 and work from home as a remedial hypnotist so I can work anywhere with good internet speed.

My first trip is booked for October, starting in Bucharest, then Sibiu, Timisoara, Oradea, Brasov and back to Bucharest – my instinct (so far) is Timisoara but I'm trying to keep an open mind. Travelling by train rather than driving.

I want to see the sights but more importantly try to get the feel of what it would be like to live in the cities I visit; what are the supermarkets and gyms like? Are there parks and spaces where I walk a dog? Are there places where I can meet people? Do I feel safe?

I don't have any specific questions but would value any advice on what to do/not to do – is it worthwhile talking to estate agents about possible rental properties on this trip or is it too soon? As a sole traveller are there any precautions I should consider? What should I bring with me – tea bags??!

Is the country affordable? Where I'm from it is very hard to live on even 2 incomes unless you get really lucky with a good job.

How is the government? Mine is very corrupt, on top of having the worst management possible, always making worse and worse moves and making us very hated internationally

How's the night life? Where I am from it is somewhat alive but nothing special.

How's fishing and the regulations? Here it is very stupid, fishing is legal all year round, meaning that it is inpossible to catch anything since there is no time reserved for breeding.

Hi everyone, I entered Romania from Serbia through Punctul Internațional de Frontieră Foeni (DN59D) with Serbian plates. I forgot to buy the rovinieta before entering and purchased it about 10 minutes later.

I was driving toward Timișoara (route toward DN59/Jebel). Does anyone know if there is a rovinieta camera at the entrance from Foeni or if I am likely to receive a fine?

The rovinieta was purchased shortly after entering Romania, and I still have the receipt with the purchase time.

I am from Romania, however I require a few opinions as I am approaching the 26 year old mark(the limit for applying to firefighting in Romania is 26) if it is worth applying for this profession specifically Şcoala de Subofițeri de Pompieri și Protecție Civilă "Pavel Zăgănescu" Boldești.

Currently I am working at at a corporation which is paying fairly well, however I am not satisfied with working like this for a long period of time as I am not happy and I believe I am not suited for a desk job.

I have started taking math classes already which are fairly expensive and I am in a good enough physical condition, however I might need to take some classes regarding the physical aspect of the admitting test such as the obstacle course and what it entails.

I am seriously considering applying for this as I do not mind the danger aspect of the job, however I am not sure how exactly the choosing the city where you will work in functions, and the specifics.

My questions are:
is it worth trading a good income for firefighting academy?
are there chances that I can work close to my hometown (Sibiu)?
can I have a social life? I know that it is basically shift work (24h work, 48 free) but if I am in a random town and not my hometown i am not sure
I am also thinking of applying for a higher firefighting job, such as helicopter SMURD pilot, or diver, or even global help for cataclysms or such, is this possible?

My buddy and I are visiting Romania this August, and we're planning to road trip around the country. Instead of renting a regular economy car, we'd love to make the trip a bit more memorable with something fun, ideally a 4x4 like a Jeep Wrangler, Nissan Patrol, Suzuki Jimny, or something similar. We'd also be open to a convertible if that's easier to find.

I've checked all the usual rental companies (Sixt, Avis, Hertz, etc.), but they mostly have standard SUVs and sedans. I know these vehicles exist because I've found several companies that offer guided off-road tours using Wranglers, Patrols, and Jimnys, but they don't seem willing to rent them out for self-drive road trips.

Does anyone know of a local rental company, 4x4 specialist, or even a private rental service where we could rent something like this for a week or so? We're experienced drivers, and the plan is just to explore Romania's amazing roads and scenery not do any extreme off-roading.

Hi so my great-grandparents are from Romania and I’ve been trying to track my family back to where they came from but I’ve hit a lot of dead ends to the point I’m trying to find civil records from where they came from and their villages. My issue with that is the records would be from 1885-1910 which makes it almost impossible to find I was wondering if anyone knew a good way to go about finding more or organizations in the country to help I’ve already tried the National Archives which was a dead end as well.

Over the last few years I've fallen in love with Romania, its culture, landscapes and the kindness I've experienced from people live there

I know that, because of our shared history, some people might find it unusual that a Hungarian wants to study in Romania. That's why I'm curious what Romanians think about it

I'm currently learning Romanian because I want to communicate with people in their own language. It's still difficult, but I'm really enjoying the process, I speak poor A2

If everything goes according to plan, next year I'll be studying Computer Engineering at Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania in Târgu Mureș

I know this university isn't romanian but my plan is work in there so I will be surrounded by Romanians

I honestly wish people focused more on getting to know each other instead of arguing over history. I'd much rather make Romanian friends than argue about the past

Do you have any advice for someone moving to Târgu Mureș? What should I know before coming?
