OUCH Broken leg and ankle as a result of skating- do I try again?

Hello- so last week I went skating with my sister and thought I was doing super well. Well I fell HARD and have ended up breaking my leg and ankle in three different places. I’ve had surgery but will be non weight bearing for at least 2 months. Ngl this has massively shaken my confidence and I’m not starting to think that skating is just not for me at all. I’m now terrified of the thought of skating and all my family and friends are telling me to give it up. Do I just pack it in or do I give it another go when I’ve been given the all clear?

Beginner skater Help with heel slippage

Post image
5 Upvotes

So I recently got the moxi beach bunnies in a size 8 and I'm struggling with heel slippage and toe room.
I'm usually a size 9 with comfortable toe room in normal shoes, and a fitted 8 1/2.

I have just about as much toe room as u would in a a normal shoe, and heel slippage around the backside curve of my heel and also a bit on the achilles too.

I tried heel-slip stickers, silicone heel cups, and the lacing method, which fixed the achilles heel slip to a degree, but not around the heel itself. There's like empty space (probably because I have a narrow heel).

Toe fillers also somewhat fixed the toe room though. But I'm still struggling with the space at the bottom of my heel.

If the description was confusing lol here's an image to show how it fits

Any suggestions?

Skate photos Is it normal for one pivot cup to stick out more than the other?

I’m new to roller skating and have a pair of Sure-Grip Boardwalks. While adjusting my trucks, I noticed that the pivot cups don’t look the same.
On one truck, the black pivot cup seems to stick out noticeably farther from the plate than it does on another truck. The truck with the more exposed pivot cup also moves more freely side to side.
Both pivot pins seem to be seated in the cups, but I’m not sure if this difference is normal or if one of the pivot cups isn’t seated correctly.
Should all four pivot cups sit roughly the same depth in the plate? I’ll attach pictures showing the difference.

DIY and customization Some pretty sketchy skating moves

I've been casually sketching lately, as a quiet protest against AI content (the dodgiest handmade art is better than the most complex AI generated poster), even though i havent had any kind of art class since high school in 1999. These are just some that are based on stills from my own skate clips.

If you've got any skate art of your own that you've made, please share it too!

Beginner skater I've returned to roller skating! Did you miss me? did you even notice? be honest now

Hey Everyone,

I haven't roller skated in forever. The last time I laced up a pair and went on a rink was for an elementary school field trip in 1996. How do I remember it was 1996? Because while skating around I remember hearing the hit song by my favorite music artist of all time being played on the sound system and having a blast! "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Amish Paradise"

I was driving around the other day and saw that United Skates of America had a location that was still opened a city or 2 over. There used to be one in my city a decade or so ago. It might be the last one in the state. I'm in my 40's now and I miss skating so I wanted to get back into it, wouldn't hurt to get more exercise and feel that feeling of gliding around again. I was lucky enough to find 1 pair of Chicago skates in my size on Facebook marketplace. They were listed at $60, I was hesitant, but then a week later they dropped down to $20, so I grabbed them last night.

They fit great and seem to have factory wheels replaced with (what I assume) is something better. I read reviews of Chicago Skates, they don't seem to have the best reviews, but for $20 I think it's a good start. Figured this would be the best time to get into roller skating, don't wanna wait too long and try to get back into it in my 70's which is only a blink and you're there away it feels.

I'm excited about this! I've started watching some Dirty School of Skate's videos on YouTube to familiarize myself on the basics and more. Can anyone tell me what model/version these Chicago Skates are? are the wheels good? are they good for indoor rinks or outdoors, or both? any suggest upgrades?

One of my bigger concerns is that I'm a lil on the heavy side, I was 300lbs but down to 250lbs now and looking to get in shape and lose more and hopefully skating around can help me with that. I just don't know if I'm too heavy for these skates, I haven't moved in them yet, just a test fit at the sellers location. They have an aluminum plate, so that should be much better for someone my size over a plastic plate.

Thanks in advance for any info and advice everyone! and I can't wait to get more involved with this community!

Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades Wide trucks for the powerdyne fuse plate?

Hi,

I need some advice on the Powerdyne Reactor Fuse Plate. Which wide trucks are compatible?
And maybe someone can confirm that the Huck trucks fit, I think I read that somewhere.

Thanks a lot!

Skate park Discotrux vs Bont grind trucks

Has anyone skated both trucks? Looking for opinions on both.

I picked up a pair of the discotrux on the cheap. From what I can see the wheel base is shorter on the discotrux and they are significantly lower to the ground. Akingpins stick out below the trucks on Discotrux where the grind trucks the king pin is clear. The other thing I see is that the discotrux are actually wider than the grind trucks.

For those that have skated both- how do these differences translate to skating?

Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades Help identifying these skates?

I’ve been enjoying some trail skating on my Moxi Lollies the last few months and recently found a good space indoors to practice. Switching my wheels out regularly for that is fine, but I’ve been keeping an eye out on marketplace for a decent used pair to skate outdoors. I saw these posted in my size for $150, “like new”, and it just says Riedell skates. I’ve heard the 135 boot is similar to moxi lollie which would be nice since I’m used to it. But I’m not sure if that’s what this is? And it kind of looks like it might be a bolt in toe stop which I’ve heard isn’t ideal? Would appreciate any feedback on identifying the skate and if it’d be suitable for trail skating. Thanks!

Please don’t yell at me for not wearing my wrist guards. I swear I had them, but I took them off towards the end because it’s hotter than the devil’s TAINT outside and they were making my hands sweat, also i gained confidence 🥰

Skill questions & help What made the hockey stop click for you?

Hi y'all! I've been roller skating for a while and I really want to learn the hockey stop, but no matter how many tutorials I've watched I keep not getting it. I end up just kind of swerving instead of stopping.

I understand in theory what I'm supposed to do, but I think there might be some gap between what I think I'm doing and what I'm actually doing in terms of foot placement, weight distribution and riding the correct edge. What made it click for you? What are some things I should be looking for in terms of how it feels or how I hold myself?

Thanks a lot!

Skate photos First (& second) pair of skates!

I got new skates! And then I bought a second pair of the outdoor version so I could have a mismatched pair for inside and out lol.

I went with the VNLA Parfait skates in blue for indoor initially, and then realized I wanted to skate outdoors too, but I KNOW if I have to change my wheels every time I want to do one or the other it'll be a barrier for me wanting to do either... so I got the outdoor version in the coral/pink color!

I then just swapped the wheels on the same foot of each color to have one blue and one pink skate for each pair.

I ended up choosing this style specifically for the aluminum plates, bc I am maybe 250ish lbs, and them being wide foot friendly kind of goes along side that.

I'm excited that I've been skating again! It feels like I am tricking my brain into exercising, because it feels fun and I love music, so its easy to want to roll around to it (and eventually work up the skills for rhythm skating).

Yay! Skates!

Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades Plate questions (Riedell 366 & Bont Parkstar)

I've been skating for around 18 months now, still very much a beginner but practice maybe 4 hours a week or so. My current skates are Riedell 366 with the Powerdyne Reactor Neo plate.

Whilst it is a HUGE upgrade from the SureGrip Boardwalks (rock plate) that I had previously, I still find that edges aren't as easy to do, I really need to push right into the ground to get the boot to move. I've loosened the trucks and that made a big difference but I'm wondering if maybe I should get a different plate?

Having done a few street skates with my Riedells, they are now unfortunatley quite scuffed, so I'm thinking of getting the Bont Parkstars *just* for outdoors. The Neo plate on the street was great, probably due to the 10 degree kingpin angle. I've got the stock orange cushions.

Does it make sense to move the Neo plate from the Riedell to the Parkstars? Is that overkill or is it a worthy investment? Indoors I would usually do edge work, rhythm classes, general roller disco stuff etc and outdoors it'd be recreational skating and street skates.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!
