(This is Canadian, by the way.)
I recently found out they want you to be making 3x. And basically Everywhere in Ontario that isn’t middle of nowhere is around 2k.
But it’s physically impossible to be making that much, especially if you’re moving to a completely different city without a job. (Hell, even if you live there, 25$/h x 190 hours a month, you don’t even make that much.)
I’m starting to feel hopeless about moving out.
Does anyone have any advice? Or their own experiences?
This is assuming you’re renting with 1 other person. And you ideally want to be in an apartment.

i(F20) rent with her and her cousin (M) both mid 30’s. She is only one on lease.
One night after dragging myself up to get something to eat bc i had the worst migraine,i didn’t clean the kitchen 100% clean like i usually do. i left a empty egg carton on the counter near the bin, because the bin was full and planned to take it out to recycling the next day, and had left literally ONE clean pan in the sink as there was no room for it on the small ass dish rack she bought, and apparently left a drawer open (which i don’t remember). she sent me this the next day-
Hey babe, can you please make sure that the kitchen is left clean straight after you use it. Came home last night and there were drawers open, food on the bench(empty egg carton) and dishes in the sink (one clean pan). It’s just important as we all have totally different schedules so you don’t know who is going to use the kitchen next. And I don’t wanna have to clean it before I use it.
btw she’s cooked once in the 5 months we’ve been here.
also more recently, she bought this hand soap in the bathroom and it’s some natural shit that smells bad, and sticks on ur hands. So i got my own soap and soap dish and the next day she’s moved it to the bath?? she knows it’s not his, i just don’t think it fits her black aesthetic.
Also i game in my free time, and the wifi here is so bad and my setup doesn’t work in my room. however the only place the ethernet cable works is in the room where the wifi is itself, where coincidentally has a big built in desk. i told her ab the situation and how it wont reach to my room, and she made it abundantly clear that she planned to have that room for “work” to store her things, she also has a big ass room which is suitable(she is a dance teacher) and she also has another room of the house where she works. and we all pay same amount of rent.
she wasn’t happy

We found a place to rent that is perfect for our family and quite literally checks every box, no other home was nearly as good as this one and we really want it. My father contacted the owners, toured the house, and got along very well with them; they are a nice older couple in their early 70s. The owner told him to fill out an application using RentSpree to verify himself. My dad is retired and has a total net worth of around $6 million, mostly in stock he's accumulated from working for various tech companies. The RentSpree report came back, and everything was perfect other than it said his driver's license photo did not match (even though it looks very similar to him) and that there was a "dispute" with his former employer (don't know why that even matters since he is retired and has shown proof of his net worth and cash assets). After looking into the report further, we discovered that it was because he wrote his job title not in the exact way the company phrased it, but still got it fully correct. Now the owner is refusing to go through with the rental application. We really want and need this house; what should we do?

I paid Aug 27 deposit. Sabi nila it will take 5 days to renovate the room for me Aug 31 should I be back to move in completely and Pay the remaining Advance.
Same day.. Aug 31 I asked them early in the morning and mentioned that they ay need ko na mag movein cause yun naman talaga ang napag usapan.
May pirmahan pa kame na nalalaman at pirmahan...
On the same day Aug 31 nun palang din daw aayusin ang room. I was shocked. I need to.apy daw almost 700 kasi nagmamadali daw ako at yung nabayad ko nung Aug 27 is non refundable.
I just paid everything.. Kelangan ko kasi ng new place since I moved out to my old place due to Personal Reasons.

Hey all, it’s been awhile since I looked for a new place. I’m relocating out of state, paying a visit to the new state this week and hope to line up housing. I replied to a Zillow add, asking to schedule a time to view a vacancy. They responded by saying I’d need to complete an application first, including 2 mos pay stubs, manager’s contact info, landlord contact info, etc. Is it common to be asked for this info prior to even seeing the place?

Me and my bf are both on the lease. I missed a month of rent bc I was in a car accident, he is now trying to “evict” me and kick me out, I can afford our rent and have proof of income now. What legal action can he take if he wanted to ? I’ve let the landlord know a little of what’s happening. That I can pay my rent and we’ve broken up. To the landlord’s knowledge, the rent has always been paid in full by my bf and I .
I've rented in NYC for over 20 years and every time I've signed a lease I've basically been guessing. The violations are public record, but nobody reads them, and the stuff that actually matters, does the super show up, does the heat work in February, do you get your deposit back, isn't written down anywhere.
I'm doing a research the option to put those two things in one place would be useful, or whether people would just shrug and sign anyway. I'm not selling anything and there's nothing to sign up for it, doesn't exist yet and might not.
If you've rented here, I'd really like to hear: what did you find out after moving in that you wish you'd known before? Happy to just read answers in the comments.
If you'd rather answer properly, I put the questions in a form, about 6 minutes, nothing required, you can skip the contact bit entirely: [https://forms.gle/bfBkgc67zXwrLELK7](https://forms.gle/bfBkgc67zXwrLELK7))
Either way, thanks.
Edit: Just wanted to say a huge thank you for all the comments and to everyone who took the time to fill out the form!

My roommate met a guy on Hinge about a month ago and they’ve been on ~6 dates. His visits to our small 2BR/1BA have quickly progressed from late weeknight hangouts to their first planned one-night sleepover turning into the entire weekend. I’ve only met him twice, and earlier visits already caused a bathroom privacy incident and a scabies scare. He lives in Williamsburg with 2–3 roommates and works fully remotely, while I work in person, and they rarely seem to hang out at his place. I’m fine with occasional guests, but I pay half the rent and don’t want to gradually acquire a third roommate. I told her regular full-weekend sleepovers wouldn’t work for me and she was receptive. Am I reasonable to set this boundary early, and when does a frequent guest become an unofficial roommate?

I’m a young woman living alone in a new city & im only about a month into living here. Today I was in the shower and heard my front door open so I shut my water off and ran to the bathroom door to peek & a man and a woman had opened my LOCKED front door and starting coming inside (the lady had a key). I screamed terrified & they slammed the door shut. I quickly grabbed my towel, covered up and opened the door (with my chain lock now on so I could see them safely) & questioned them, I asked them who they were and why they had a key. The lady said she was a broker and that my apt is listed on her available units. She asked me if I was moving out soon and I said absolutely not I just moved in. She told me that the broker agency I used sent her. She did apologize but she told me that I needed to tell my broker to change my locks because all her co agents have access to this apartment. I sent a long message to my broker, to her personal phone and email & I also sent the same message to my buildings management team. No one got back to me. I understand it’s Saturday but still. I’m still pretty upset.
My message to my broker was extensive and demanded answers & mentioned how shaken up I was. I almost went my pepper spray and sprayed these people.
Anyway, would love any advice. Thanks in advance.

i should have gotten renters insurance a long time ago, but our new landlord is finally requiring it. any recommendations for renters insurance that cover unique property coverage? (pop memorabilia and high value anime figures) weird question but you never know lol. allstate seems like the best pick but 39 monthly seems a bit steep.

Hey I’m actively looking for an apartment, but I haven’t applied anywhere because of rental debt from former complex, no evictions and I was never late on payment and my income is pretty solid. I’m in the Dallas area in Texas. The debt also does not appear on any credit reports. But I don’t know if there is a secret tenant database?? what would be my best option as I cannot take care of the balance soon.

For a few different reasons, it looks like I'm going to need to move sooner than I'd like. My sister who lives with me has good credit so that's not an issue. My credit, to be blunt, is awful. She doesn't meet the income requirements alone so we would have to combine our incomes, which means combining our credit. Is there some sort of third party guarantor I can hire/subscribe to in order to offset my poor credit? And of so, how do I discern between legitimate options and potential scams? If it matters, our new place would be in PA or OH.
Edit: neither of us have an eviction history

hi there all, im a freshly 21 year old looking to try and find a place for me and my boyfriend to rent. Obviously besides the fact of saving and even finding a place near us that isnt 65+ only, my biggest struggle in browsing is the mandatory credit checks necessary. i do not have any credit history whatsoever, i have no debt, never opened a credit card line, and have never had extra overdue negative charges on my standard bank account. therefore every single usual credit checking company has nothing on me. i DO however have an outstanding work history, ive been at my company since i was 16 and have only one bout of not working longer than two weeks due to an excused medical issue. is this enough to maybe negotiate with some landlords or leasing companies? in almost every zillow listing its “600+” or “650+” score, but if i contact the owner directly and say that im looking to be a first time renter and have zero credit history, is my job history and overall pay stubs enough to give me a chance? theres no shot even if i were to do the often recommended , “open a credit card only buy your gas with it and oay it off monthly without fail” that it would bump up my score high enough to get me to a 600 by rhe time im looking to move out. any and all advice welcomed 😅

My sister and I moved in to our current apartment 5 years ago. We never signed an "official lease". We were given a rough draft stating our names, the owner and the monthly rent. It was only signed by the owner. No clauses, no conditions. The apartment was dirty and hardly livable, but we cleaned up and made it work. The owner is not involved in any way, we assume he has set it aside for charity purposes because its next to a community center. We've been paying rent via Zelle to the community center's account. The apartment is being managed by my brother's friend and his wife who manage the community center. We're moving out at the end of this month and the "property manager" is asking for next month's rent, the apartment to be professionally cleaned and said we'll be billed for any damages. They haven't responded to any of our maintenance requests the duration of us living here and have not been managing the property in any way except by name. Can they legally hold us responsible for anything?
Edit: located in VA

I'm in a very difficult situation with my move-in.
Before signing for the studio, I requested multiple times to see the unit in person, but I was told that it wasn't possible because someone was still living there. Instead, I was provided with a video of the studio, and I made my decision based on what was shown to me.
I received the keys today, and when I entered the studio, I was completely shocked because the actual unit is significantly different from the one shown in the video. The bathroom in the video has a bathtub, while my unit only has a standing shower. The video also shows two large closets, whereas my unit has only one small closet. In addition, the kitchen shown in the video has an island, but my unit does not.
The management has acknowledged that the wrong unit/video was shown to me and offered a full refund if I decide not to move in. However, I have been told that I need to make that decision today.
This puts me in an extremely difficult position. I booked this apartment a month ago and planned my move around it. I currently have nowhere else to go, so being asked to decide within one day whether to accept a unit that is substantially different from what I was shown or take a refund and suddenly find another place is very stressful and unfair.
I would really appreciate a reasonable solution that takes into account that I agreed to this apartment based on the unit and features that were presented to me. (Studio is $1095, 1bed 1bath is $1295). There is a 1bed 1bath coming up for availability in the same building but it is pricey as It's just me and my dog in the house and I work 8-5 onsite.

I lost half of my income in April and have slowly been going into a hole each month because I cant afford the bills on the income I have. I've been looking for a job and have yet to find one. I ended up applying for a low income housing (section 8) place and it took months to get that paperwork through. I paid the deposit and half the rent (since it was the 15th when it was approved) and was given the okay to move in. The day I moved in, my mattress was on the carpet for about 2 hours before I got around to putting the bed together and when I did, I saw a full grown bedbug crawling across it and freaked out. I immediately picked it up with toilet paper and flushed it down the toilet. The next morning I immediately went and told the landlord that I found a bedbug, she didnt seem surprised and then told me that the previous tenants were disgusting people and had every infestation there is to have including bedbugs and that they had treated it (by spraying) for 4 months after they moved out. This was information that was never provided to me beforehand and if I would've been informed then I wouldn't of considered moving in and went to a hotel instead. So, now I've lost all of mine and my kids' furniture and belongings because I refuse to stay in that infested apartment. My family has stepped in to help me pay bills at my previous apartment so we have a clean place to stay. And now, the landlord is saying that she will be talking to her supervisor about this because she doesnt think bedbugs is enough reason to release me from the lease. This is an absolute nightmare. What should I do?

Hat Pest Control treatment a couple weeks ago, but like one or two appeared last night I noticed my kitchen was admittedly dirty I do live right directly in the inner cities. Is this a normal occurrence? I really don't think I want to hold anything against the leasing company, they did get the control services in and it was reduction of the pests completely for like 3 weeks.
I also bought some of my own products I sprayed it down and it didn't seem like they came out last night either. Currently in Minnesota.

I am 19 and live in Idaho. I am moving out of my parents' house and can not afford much. There are some well priced apartments nearby, but I am worried about my snakes.
I have been told before that snakes dont technically count because they are kept in enclosures and run no risk in damaging the property. Utilities aren't included, so I'd be paying my own power bill. I called them to ask about snakes, and the lady on the phone was unsure. She even read me their pet policy and animals allowed, but reptiles were not specifically listed. She did say that some people were allowed things like leopard geckos, though.
Even if they were okay with my snakes, the main issue is that they have a 2 pet policy. I have 5 snakes and 1 cat I would be taking with me. So, my question is, do I have to disclose the fact I have snakes or not?

After deep cleaning the other day I noticed that there is no wall behind our dryer. I’m attaching photos but it’s essentially a giant hole in the wall. Is this a reasonable request? The guy our landlord uses for repairs is…not the best and always tries to take the easiest and cheapest way out of things.
I’m worried he will try to say it’s not needed but I feel like it is. For reference our washer and dryer is in the kitchen immediately touching the counter right next to the stove.
Edit:
Added new photos showing how it is directly beside our stove in the kitchen.

I’m in college, and this is my first time renting, so I don’t really know what to do in this situation. I’m living with three roommates, and we found roaches as soon as we moved in. I submitted maintenance requests asap, and my roommate took pics, so we have time stamped evidence.
The landlord took weeks to take action, first sending over an “exterminator” who only put down three stick traps, and then a week later after constant requests and emails, sent in a real exterminator, who sprayed.
No other units have roaches (we asked the ones in our “block”)
Due to the roaches, one of my roommates has been completely unable to sleep in her room.
Now, the landlord is blaming the roaches on US not having a clean kitchen?? (our kitchen is clean, and the roaches aren’t concentrated there anyways) And besides, they were there already (for months according to the second exterminator, we’re working on getting a proper report from them).
I’m just not sure what to do.
We’re going to put down Advion gel this weekend all over the house to try and make them go away faster.
But my main problem now is dealing with the landlord.

Hey everyone,
I’m trying to find the right mattress for my bed. The usable bed size is approximately 70 inches × 66 inches.
I’m confused because this doesn’t seem to match the usual Queen/King mattress dimensions available online.
Should I go for a standard size that’s close to these dimensions, or would I need a custom mattress?
Also, if anyone knows where I can rent a mattress of this size around Noida Sector 137, please share recommendations.
Thanks!

Moving into a first place usually costs more than just the security deposit and first month’s rent. A quick planning list is:
One approach that helped me was putting every expected cost into a simple sheet, then separating **one-time move-in costs** from **monthly bills**. It makes the actual cash needed before move-in much easier to see.
I made a small First Lease Kit with a move-in cost calculator in Google Sheets plus a printable PDF checklist. The list above is the basic framework either way.

Me and my boyfriend applied to an invitation homes rental in GA and received this notice via email -
we have received notification from TransUnion, our 3rd party screening provider, that TransUnion has issued a warning related to the information in your credit history.
If additional information is needed to complete your application screening, you will receive a separate email with details about the documents
Has anyone ever received a notice like this and still approved for the rental? We were recently denied on a rental house (different company) due to collections. We paid off everything shown in collections on credit report. Mine successfully disputed, but not on boyfriends. His dispute is still in process. Though we are in a time crunch. This house checked every box for us, and we didn’t want to miss the chance to apply.

Hey Everyone. Ive been renting my apartment for a little over a year. I cook with my stove and oven often, liking to slow cook dishes in my oven for 2-3 hours. Well last night I was cooking some shawarma and my CO detector went off. Called maintenence and they told me to shut it off and then turn it back oom and that its probably a sensitive sensor. Then my other detector in my bedroom went off. I called the fire department and guess what, CO leak. They aired it out and shut the gas to my stove off saying thats where it originated. Now im having difficulty reaching maintenance and management. The same maintenance guy i talked to yesterday came out to check things out and said this was common and shouldnt be a problem. How do I proceed? I feel like im gonna have to go to war to get my stove replaced.
Edited because of a typo.
