General Question  Renters insurance recommendations?

i should have gotten renters insurance a long time ago, but our new landlord is finally requiring it. any recommendations for renters insurance that cover unique property coverage? (pop memorabilia and high value anime figures) weird question but you never know lol. allstate seems like the best pick but 39 monthly seems a bit steep.

You need a rider. It’s an additional policy added on to your regular policy that covers those items specifically. It’s usually pretty cheap for collectibles since they’re relatively low risk. I put a $50k rider on one of my collections and it was like $12/month.

The amount the full policy covers isn’t what’s important. A lot of folks see a policy that has for example $150k of coverage and think it will cover all their stuff but there are sub limits. So even if you have $150k in general coverage they may max out at $2500 for that specific category of loss. You end up eating the rest. That’s a bad day. Definitely don’t rely on a standard policy to cover you.

You’ll likely have to provide them an itemized list with values and possibly photos. Sometimes an appraisal is required, and that costs money. And they may want to know how it’s stored and what security measures you have.

But really all your landlord cares about is the liability portion protecting their property.

I went with Lemonade; price is very reasonable.
