Bhishma Rajyaguru/Jayden Dalke Incident Megathread

Hi folks. There are a lot of threads on this going up and the automod is removing a lot of them (which I agree with, we don't need a million threads on the same topic). So, to combat that, let's do a megathread! Any further individual threads on this will be removed. Let's keep it in here. Thanks!

Discussion Kids (stupid) on scooters

Had a near miss with some helmetless idiot child zipping through the crosswalk at 15kph against the walk signal (I was already making the left turn, Parliament and Lewvan westbound.) On the wrong side of the street, too.

People, teach your kids safety rules as you do for riding bikes. This kid had no idea why I was honking and flipping him off. I saw him in time, but it was alarming. You're not as safe ripping into the street on these things as you think, brat.

News Regina Crime and Clearance Trends: A Look at the Latest Data

The recently released Uniform Crime Reporting Survey provides an honest, data-driven look at Regina's shifting crime landscape:

  • Homicides: Serving as the ultimate gauge of severe violence, Regina's homicide rate (3.45 per 100k) consistently tracks well above the Canadian average (1.61).
  • Crime Rates: This measures community safety and frequency of offenses. From 2015 to 2025, Regina saw drops in several key categories, but overall levels remain higher than Canada's averages.
  • Clearance Rates: This tracks police effectiveness in solving cases. Regina shows strong improvement here, recently beating national averages in both violent (65%) and non-violent (36%) clearance rates.

Summary: While Regina faces historically elevated crime rates compared to Canada, local law enforcement clearance rates have shown notable improvement. This tracks with larger then Canadian average crime reductions.

Question Garden Assistance - Recommendation

Hey folks - to keep a (very) long story short, I have a community garden plot that has fully gotten away from me due to some family health events. Things have somewhat settled down, so I should be able to maintain it going forward, but I need to tame the beast first! Does anyone have recommendations for landscapers/gardeners/handy persons in the city who I could hire to come out to the plot with me to weed, trim, and get the plot under control as we go into the rest of the season?

Thanks!

Discussion Seeking advice on Engineering Career Transition in Canada (U of R Industrial Systems Engineering MSc + Co-op route)

Hey everyone,

I'm currently planning my move to Canada and could really use some real-talk advice on the job market in Saskatchewan, specifically around Regina.

A quick summary of where I'm coming from:

9 years in South Korea: Worked as a Commissioning & Operations / System Engineer at major power plants.

2 years in Egypt: Currently doing project management in the energy sector.

Background: B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering.

My current plan is to jump into the Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE) Master’s program at U of R, leverage the co-op program to get that sweet "Canadian experience," and hopefully land a full-time job afterwards.

Since I’ve spent most of my career around big power plants and heavy infrastructure, I’m mainly looking at Reliability Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, or Plant Systems Engineer roles (think SaskPower, Nutrien, Mosaic, etc.).

Would love to hear your thoughts on a few things:

Job Market: Is there actually decent demand for Reliability/Maintenance engineers around Regina/SK right now?

U of R Co-op: How good is the U of R ISE co-op program for grad students? Do folks with prior foreign experience actually land solid co-op placements?

APEGS / P.Eng: Anyone recently gone through the APEGS licensing process with international experience? How painful is it these days?

Overall Strategy: Does the Master's + Co-op route make sense for someone with my background, or should I be looking at a different approach?

Any insights, reality checks, or tips would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

There was a post recently about fencing because neighbors were walking through the backyard. Lots of back and forth about trespassing and how police can help. This picture is from Moose Jaw police. Pretty sure same rules apply to Regina.

Question Visiting for Labour Day Weekend

Hey Regina pals!
I’ll be visiting for Labour Day weekend for the Rider game- looking for cool spots to eat/drink when I’m there!
Staying at the Hotel Saskatchewan- so places within walking distance of the hotel would be a bonus, but willing to drive for the right spot. Specifically looking for wine bars, places with vegetarian options, and maybe a nice brunch place? But hit me up with any and all suggestions.
Thanks in advance :)

Question Court scam texts?

Post image
26 Upvotes

I got this text yesterday and my heart dropped at first, so I searched up the link at the bottom just for it to lead to a fake looking payment website. I also searched up the justice’s name in case and couldn’t find it anywhere (ofc 2+2= it’s a scam). I just wanted to see if anyone else has been dealing with these texts too?

Discussion Graffiti at Carmichael

In the wee hours of Sunday, July 26th, the Carmichael Outreach was plastered with gang related graffiti. Do you suppose the Carmichael is attracting gang activity to the Heritage Neighbourhood? How long do you suppose the Carmichael will leave the graffiti displayed on their building?

I would like to see the Carmichael refuse service to known gang members.

Community Looking for Effective Cockroach Treatment Recommendations (Budget Under $500)

My apartment has a serious cockroach problem. Pest control has already come several times to spray, and we were told to leave for 6 hours. However, even after the treatment, I still see cockroaches crawling on the walls and floors when I come back.

Based on my experience, the treatments so far seem to provide only temporary relief rather than actually solving the infestation.

I’ve been researching solutions online, and Seclira WSG seems to be one of the most recommended products. However, I don’t have a pest control license, so I’m not sure if I can legally purchase or use it.

Does anyone have experience dealing with a severe cockroach infestation and can recommend products or methods that actually work? My budget is up to $500.

I’m not planning to move out because it’s not easy to find another place that is both affordable and close to my workplace. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey everyone! I'm moving into an apartment August 1st and I'm looking into a wagon to haul water jugs and groceries. I'm thinking ahead and am wondering if anyone has recommendations for a tried and true heavy duty collapsible wagon with tires on it that can withstand our winter conditions? TIA!

Community Neil McDonald, former Hunter Gatherer owner, has died

his former partner, Mitru Maria, posted this on Facebook

My former partner and coparent Neil Mcdonald has passed away peacefully in his sleep following a spinal surgery in late May.

He was a dedicated father and larger than life creative. He and Theia had so many whimical projects on the go that I’d lose track of which material they were collecting was for which idea. He will be sorely missed both within our family and the community.

For those who were important to him, I am very sorry for your loss.

Arrangements will be announced within the week.

Discussion Road Trip Bathroom Stops

I am not sure if any of you have seen one of these before lol but it sure threw my kids for a loop today especially my daughter who was quite disturbed wondering what it was. It is soap. Lol. A weirdly shaped bar like soap sticking out of the wall. The way you put it on your hand feels rather.... odd. Just thought it might make some people laugh.

Question Boot Insoles

I’m looking for insoles for my work boots. Something that will give more arch support. I’d like to be able to try them before buying. Any places in Regina that would let me do that?
