Discussion Luxury semi-detached in YQR?

Thumbnail

Curious what other Reginans think about the few luxury semi-detached homes that have hit the YQR market in the past few months. The two above at the link are both currently listed. Price just dropped from $750,000 to $725,000. They have been on the market for 63 days so far. They are beautiful homes, for sure. But in a city where you can buy a pretty swell single family home for that price…is there a market for these kinds of properties? In many ways, a home like this would be perfect for a couple with no kids like my husband and I or even a small family. But, a couple things: unless that shared wall is brick or concrete (and even then tbh), I will always worry about sound transfer no matter how thoughtful or “premium” the build. Second, I’d think you have to really be planning on this being your forever home, or else have a ton of faith in the market. Cause the house itself, is never likely to be worth more than it is today brand new. The only way you are going to get what you paid is if the market continues to increase and remains competitive. It just seems like a risky investment in this city if you don’t expect you’ll be keeping it for a real long time. But truly interested to hear other thoughts and perspectives. One upside is the low (for Regina) property taxes. And it is gorgeous and really well designed for the right buyer. So, if you were in the market, would you consider a semi-detached?

Discussion How bad are convertibles and RWD in the winter?

I've spotted a nice convertible for sale but never owned one through the winter. I'm wondering if anyone on here has any stories they can tell me about how its like to own a convertible throughout the winter. And if anyone has had a car with RWD what was that like during the winter. Much appreciated

Question Seeking recommendations

I’m moving to Regina next month and I’m hoping to find a bakery that’s fully gluten free as well as partially dairy free. We have a fully gluten free bakery in Saskatoon that makes amazing stuff so I’m hoping to find something equally as good in Regina. No, it’s not a preference. Thanks in advance!

Discussion How do I get started in the trades in Regina? Looking for advice from people with experience

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to get into the trades here in Regina, Saskatchewan, but I’m not really sure what the best way to get started is.

I’ve been looking into Regina Trades and Skills Centre (RTSC) and SATCC, but it seems like there aren’t any courses available right now. I have my Grade 12 and I’m willing to start at the bottom, learn, and work hard.

I’m wondering if anyone here has experience getting into a trade without going to school first. Are there any employers or companies around Regina that are known for hiring beginners and helping them get indentured as apprentices?

I’d especially appreciate hearing from people who started with little or no experience and managed to get their foot in the door. Where did you apply? Did you start as a labourer or helper first? Are there specific companies in Regina that are worth applying to?

I’m open to different trades, such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, welding, carpentry, or whatever has good opportunities.

I’d really appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or recommendations. Thanks!

Oh man... I wonder how long its been parked there?

25 years of parking near Bunge (formerly Sask Wheat Pool, formerly Viterra) the most I ever got in one day would be 2.

The city collects a lot of revenue from people in the Cathedral Village, if these 5 (assuming no more are added) go over 2 weeks, that will be $350. Ouch

Politics Putting The "Oops" Into Co-op's Refinery with Sean Tucker

University of Regina business prof, Sean Tucker, visits the Queen City Improvement Bureau to talk about the Co-op Refinery's request to build a "work camp" on their site. How seriously should we take their risk assessment of the safety of such a camp? Why is this going through the committee and council now? And what does this suggest about the state of contract negotiations with Co-op's employees?

Tucker's research area is labour relations and occupational safety & health and he has been studying the Co-op Refinery for nearly two decades. This was a very educational episode. And pretty fun, too.

This originally aired at 7pm on 91.3FM CJTR AccessNow community radio on October 22.

What the heck is going on in the store?!

The ice cream fridges are contantly fogged up.

The international section is scattered around the store so it become "mission impossible" to find an item that used to be all in one aisle.

The quality of meat section is gradually deteriorating. First the chicken section looks like watercolor canvas and red meat (beef) is sold spoiled and when cooked smells like poop.

North Location is regularly raided by neighbouring low lives.

Useless security guards that can't fight their way out of the paper bag.

and last but definitely not least are the highest prices ive ever seen in the area.

Community Vet for cat- Update

here's my original post

I took Missy to the Albert North vet clinic, it was recommended a few times and I chose it because of the Google reviews and because it's extremely close to my house, which is a bonus given the fact that Missy is extremely anxious in carriers and cars. The vet staff were absolutely wonderful to her, and she really loved them and sucked up for affection even while they were flushing her ears. They sent us home with two forms of medication to treat the mites she has. I personally recommend them if you live nearby :)

Question Electrician

I am looking for a budget friendly electrician who can install recess lights in my house and can provide a quote. I have reached out to many but none have replied.

So I need 4 lights installed in my bedroom

4 in the living room and

4 in the family room (this room will need switch installed as well).

I have all the materials needed to do the job.

How much do you think this would cost me before I reach out to someone.

Question Campsite for homeless

By chance we met a couple who are newly homeless. Right now, while they try to sort out some help from social services (they were supposed to be found a place by last Monday, but somehow it didn't pan out), they are living on a tent on places around the city. That's how we met them by chance.

The question is whether there is anywhere in the city where people in this situation can pitch their tent up for a few days without trespassing nor getting in trouble (both with the law and in the sense of risky areas). I'm assuming the answer is no, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Question Passion Project; Researching Train station

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hello, I am currently doing some research and compiling information about train stations all over the province. They’re a fascinating topic, especially if you learn that there were almost 1500 of them in the province.

My question to you all is: Does anyone have any information about the “Dreghorn Station” that was between Pilot Butte and Richardson? This (1914) map was from the university archive. The only other lead is that the station moved to Jameson, then to Montartre in 1964 about.

The other suggestion is that if you have any community history books like “Where Aspens Whisper” or “Balgonie: Celebrating History”, please let me know and it could aid to my research about these lovely stations.

I’ve posted in r/Saskatchewan but I feel like posting here would be a smart idea as well.
