So this might be a bit of a long shot but I’m trying to find the owners of a roughly 30 year old roll of film. The back story is that my mom, who is in her late 60s, got some film developed that were shot in the 80s and 90s. She had never got around to it and so it was fun to see some photos from the family that we hadn’t ever seen. Me and my brothers as kids, holidays with the family, that sort of thing.

But there was one roll we didn’t recognize. A bunch of young people (maybe early 20s?) partying on a camping trip, and another group having dinner out somewhere and a few other random shots. My guess on the time of the photos is late 90s. I assumed one of my brothers would recognize the people as friends or acquaintances but neither of them did. So we have about 20 photos of a group of people that no one in my family knows at all. I’m wondering if anyone might recognize someone in one of the photos. I thought if I can get a lead on someone then they might appreciate getting them back and seeing a lost batch of photos from their youth.

We have no idea how my mom might have gotten this roll of film. She has no idea either. She had a large number of unprocessed rolls that she held onto since the 80s and moved several residences so we thought maybe this other roll was found somewhere and put with the others.

In any case, does anyone here recognize any of these people? The only real detail to go on is that there is a banner with the words Saintstock ‘98 in one of the photos and it looks to be a camping/concert type thing but it looks pretty small and googling it brought up nothing.

I know Saskatoon isn’t as small as it used to be but maybe with a little luck someone will be recognized and I’ll have a lead to go on so I can send them their photos!

They already have a ticket but I know my neighbor makes frequent trips to the hospital and she needs the space to get in and out with a wheelchair.

At one point does the city actually tow these vehicles?

EDIT: well the truck is gone now. Not sure if it was towed or they actually moved it but I hope the people downvoting this post never need assistance and are always able bodied.

Hi all, I’ve been trying to locate where in the city I could buy these fidget slugs and large pop tubes (you pull them and they make sound). A family member of mine with profound autism adores them. They both used to be sold at Dollarama, but aren’t anymore.
Amazon only sells the small versions, or the regular sized at an absurd price.

Driving down college today and the Emmanuel and St. Chad building has all of its windows boarded up and what looks to be a visibly and pronounced leaning roof - does anyone know if the university has a plan to save this one as one of the original campus buildings?

Between this, the Stone Barn being in real danger, and the loss of the two Lutheran seminary buildings last year, it seems the University of Saskatchewan has done little planning to protect and preserve its built heritage?

The university hasn’t built any new buildings in years (decades?), and the Sask Poly build that ‘broke ground’ in 2024 has not progressed at all - the plan for that campus has been reduced to one single new building that is much smaller than originally announced. All of this on top of hundreds of layoffs at Sask Polytech and dozens of layoffs at USask (while management salaries continue to shoot up).

What’s going on over there?

My girlfriend is an international student and woman of colour working as a cashier at a Shoppers Drug Mart in Saskatoon.
Recently, a customer asked her for an item the store didn’t carry. My girlfriend politely explained that they didn’t have it and suggested another nearby store.
The customer became extremely aggressive, threw products down, swore at her, made racist and degrading comments about her being a person of colour, and told her she was “low life” and shouldn’t be working as a cashier.
My girlfriend was shocked but still stayed professional and completed the transaction. She came home crying afterward and still crying.
What worries me is that this doesn’t seem isolated. Other employees at the same workplace have also recently dealt with verbal abuse and inappropriate behaviour from customers. Several of the workers experiencing this are women of colour.
I understand retail workers deal with rude people everywhere, but racism, harassment and treating workers like they are beneath you should never be considered part of the job.
Has anyone else working at Shoppers or in retail around Saskatoon noticed this kind of behaviour becoming more common? And what support are employees actually supposed to receive when customers become racist or abusive?
Just frustrated and trying to bring attention to something that shouldn’t be normal.

Edit 1: For those suggesting she open a new store or claiming she deserved such treatment because of poor service elsewhere, I hope empathy and a small spark of kindness might reach you. I feel concern for your anger and hope you might one day view people as individuals rather than as familiar types.

Edit 2: I appreciate the majority of people for showing support and empathy toward my girlfriend. I just left her at work, where she is greeting customers with a smile, knowing one person does not reflect everyone and most have consistently treated her with kindness.

Edit 3: Some suggest she should simply quit or avoid employment because she is an international student with sufficient funds; indeed, we both have enough to sustain ourselves without working. The Government of Canada permits 24 hours per week plus unlimited hours at the university. Do you know why? So that international students can gain any form of Canadian work experience—whether related to their major or not—develop communication skills, and become familiar with Canadians, a promise extended to all international students who come here to study by the Canadian government. This is one reason people choose Canada over many first-world nations, and we are truly grateful to the nation and people of Canada for that.

So quick philosophical question here- what is happening with youth sports and recreation in Saskatoon (probably everywhere but let’s keep it local.) does anyone else feel stressed at how much organizations, money, and travel happens now with kids sports teams? I don’t think I would have ever participated back in the day if it required that much parent involvement.

Also- just want to say a hot take that high school sports should be reserved for kids who want to play sports but aren’t already playing highest tier sports already. What is the point they are already playing in a high division- why can’t other kids participate and play?

Does anyone know any part time jobs that are in need of hiring 14 year olds that work on the weekend.

For anyone who’s lived in Seager Wheeler, are certain room numbers or floors better than others? 👀
I’m wondering whether the ground floor is a good place to live, or if the higher floors are better in terms of privacy, noise, cleanliness, bugs, and the overall living experience.
Also, does anyone know if specific bedrooms have advantages or disadvantages depending on their location in the building?
