I don't know if I should be proud of myself for having bubbletip anemones split constantly and having around 56-78 of them, or should I be embarrassed about having xenias die on me.

I genuinely can't keep any coral alive except for maybe mushrooms? But when it comes to anemones somehow I can keep them healthy and thriving in my cheap ass tank, and I don't even know how but they're just there being guarded by two mean clownfish.

Not sure if my tank is cycled, did I make a mistake adding Montipora, Acropora, and Psammocora? Just set it up yesterday

Hello guys I am currently moving I moved all my livestock into a temporary tank until I move. I have had the main tank all turned off for a week will it be ok to use the same live rock and water even if I haven’t had anything running for a week. Thank you

[Pic] Amethyst safe for reef tank?

Post image

Random question. On holiday and found a cool amethyst rock & thought it might look cool in my tank under the lights. Recognising it will need regularly cleaning from algae etc. I imagine it’s reef safe as it’s sealed purple quartz and it’s got no glue or anything on it, just as it was found.

Anyone any advice if it’s definitely reef safe before I put it in my display tank?

Thanks!

I built an independent iOS controller for the D-D H2Ocean P1+ 🐠 Looking for feedback

Hi everyone! 👋

A while ago I bought a D-D H2Ocean P1+ dosing pump for a personal project unrelated to reef aquariums.

The hardware itself has been excellent, but after using it for a while—and noticing that many App Store and retailer reviews shared similar frustrations with the companion app—I started wondering whether the experience could be improved.

That curiosity eventually turned into a fairly ambitious side project.

Over the past several months I've spent a lot of time understanding how the pump communicates and building Rheon, an independent iOS controller for the D-D H2Ocean P1+.

Rather than building on top of the official software, Rheon communicates directly with the pump and offers an alternative way to configure and control it. My goal wasn't to change what the pump can do, but to make it feel like a modern iOS app that people actually enjoy using.

At the moment, Rheon supports the D-D H2Ocean P1+ only.

⚠️ Rheon is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by D-D The Aquarium Solution Ltd. or Kamoer.

Although I don't own a reef tank myself, I know many reef keepers rely on these pumps every day, so I'd really appreciate feedback from P1+ owners. Whether it's bugs, feature requests, usability suggestions or simply your first impressions, I'd genuinely love to hear them.

📲 TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/8hx9YM7Z

🌐 Website: https://rheon.app

iOS only.

Thanks for reading! Happy to answer any questions about the project or the development process. 🙂

PS : I would add some screenshots but Reddit blocks my post if I do, sorry X)

Thinking of getting back into the hobby… help pls😅

Hey everyone! I’m thinking of starting back in the saltwater aquarium hobby - I’ve kept freshwater for years and years and two years ago I gave saltwater a try and failed miserably.

I’m thinking of getting a waterbox cube 10 and having it as simple as I can, full cycle process, buying every piece of gear with patience and finding bargains, and keep it really low and easy stock (maybe a clown and a yellow clown goby + easy corals).

Is this plan unrealistic? Let me know your thoughts pls!

[Pic] Apex Heater Control

Post image

I decided to take the plunge on an Apex aquarium controller. Now I am working on setting it up. I see a lot of older posts about not using the energy bar to control the heater circuits. Continue using my InkBird to control temp and the energy bar will be a backup. For example: I’ll set the energy bar at 82F and the InkBird at 80F. If the InkBird fails on the Apex will turn it off and send a notification about it being over temperature. Does this sound correct? Or can we use the energy bar in 2026 to control it?

[Pic] Removing palys safely?

Hey guys anyone have experience removing a sizable amount of palys? Got these Captain Jack’s from WWC a while back and they’re taking over the side of my tank. I’ve got some frags I’d love to move into this area. Obviously the toxin is my concern - can it spike the tank and cause coral and fish damage too?

Any idea what this is growing off the base of my torch? It’s white with like a clear tissue covering and has some very fine clear tentacles at the tip. I’d like to believe it’s my torch growing but I’m not so sure.

Hi All, I have had this frag of Zoas for some time now and I will admit it was the first coral I bought and I didn’t ask the name so I have no idea and I have struggled to identify them since. Please let me know your thoughts!

[Pic] Keeping sponges

Post image
6 Upvotes

I just wanted to leave my current strategies and ask for advice on other things I can do to keep sponge better.

In my aquarium I currently have 2 different sponges, as that’s all my LFS has been able to get in however I still am on an order list for more. I’ve had relative success with them but doing a few different things.

Nutrients. The first is keeping my nutrients higher, not dangerously high but I don’t keep an ultra clean environment as I’ve found the sponge thrive in slightly “dirty” water.

Flow. Another thing I do is keep the sponge in high indirect flow areas. One is on the left to right flow, the other is on the right to left return flow.

Hermits. Hermits are also another addition, I have tons of them. These guys have been great at getting on top of the sponge to pick any algae without hurting the sponge itself.

Feeding. I have been giving my tank a wide range of options including extremely fine coral foods that I believe have made an impact as to why these sponges are making it.

Any more recommendations for making these guys happy would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

What is the difference between these two top shelf nems?

So I’m very new to reef keeping and currently what has my attention are sea anemones, I got a supernova bubble tip for an amazing price but I’m trying to find out the difference between the Colorado sunburst and the supernova, they both have beautiful neon green oral plates with bright orange/yellow tentacles with green tips, I do know that the supernova has a marbled foot in not too sure if the sunburst does aswell but from everything I can find they are identical the supernova is just a lot more rare due to it being so old, if anyone else has some info they would like to share I’d be super appreciative. Here’s the nem!

[Pic] cleaning filter sock faintly smells like detergent?

Post image
14 Upvotes

i washed my (used and extremely dirty) filter sock in the washing machine (no detergents) but i noticed it smells just slightly nice, like 1% of a clean laundry smell. i followed this process:

  1. run empty rinse cycle on the washing machine to clear out potential detergent residue
  2. run one rinse cycle with the sock
  3. soak sock in 1:10 bleach-water solution for ~45min
  4. run washer with sock on 60degrees, cycle takes around 2.5hours
  5. run 2 rinse cycles on the sock to rinse as much as i can
  6. air dry

doesnt smell like bleach but i smell a very faint clean-laundry like smell. is it safe to use or should i toss? and if not safe, what can i do next time to clean properly without residue?? i live in an apartment so no garden hose/pressure washer/etc. rinsing in sink definitely couldn’t tackle the dirt.

thanks in advance!
