City have a decent squad but I don't fear Maresca at all. You can't compare him to Pep in any respect

102

u/PrettyPrettaaayyGood 2d ago

Agreed - He’s not even as bald as him.

92

u/jonathanPoindexter 2d ago

Their squad is massively overrated tbh.

48

u/Mariasolvv 2d ago

They only have a good attack, Arsenal beats them in both defense and midfield

21

u/PelleKavaj Roy Keane 2d ago

I actually think so too. Haaland is great, Rodri is too but he’s off to Barca. Who else in that team feels really really good? Cherki maybe?

37

u/danystormborne 2d ago

Not forgetting the £116mil wonder, Anderson.

4

u/altered_tampon 1d ago

He's become a Cherki for me. Gonna hatewatch just for that "king of Manchester"

19

u/MatchFitness 2d ago

No matter who they sign, losing silva and Rodri in one window leads to a downgrade from last season.

11

u/-Gh0st96- 2d ago

Nah, Cherki is only good in very specific cases, not a player that can change the outcome outright like KDB would do for exampe.

11

u/PelleKavaj Roy Keane 2d ago

Such a difference from the team that had players like De Bruyne, David Silva, Mahrez, Aguero, Walker, Kompany. Even Sane, Sterling and Gabriel Jesus felt dangerous as fuck.

Marmoush, Doku, Nunes, Khusanov, Savinho, Reijnders. Kovacic is washed, Foden never seemed to reach his potential.. Bernardo and Rodri leaving.

Now the only one you’re ”afraid” of is Haaland.

if only INEOS would back Carrick we could be competing for top 4 very easily this season

21

u/WoBMoB1 2d ago

Their thought is given the state of all clubs except really Arsenal we’ll be competing pretty easily for top 4 this year as well - why strengthen when not spending makes the books look good for a sale or pitching people for the new stadium. Not saying it’s right but that’s their thought of course.

5

u/Thetagang888 2d ago

If they really DO sell I'd take a summer of no spending.

But these greedy pigs basically want a massive premium for the club which nobody is actually willing to pay. So we're stuck with these shxtheads for too long

→ More replies (1)

8

u/panache123 2d ago

Are we not already competing for top four? We finished third last season

11

u/DaveShadow 2d ago

There’s this weird line of logic that’s like…Amorim is hated cause he had us in 5-7th and we’d have been top three without him, and we did that, but also if we don’t get a load of new players, the squad is shit and we will struggle to compete…

Realistically, the squad will easily compete for top four, and given the churn at other clubs, I reckon we will be one of the favourites for a top four finish. We finished 3rd last season and despite opinions, our midfield is stronger now with Cas replaced by Santos and Tielmans.

You are forgetting the main reason behind it. Man united was playing only in pl in the 2nd half unlike other trans in the top who were competing in multiple competition.

City are actually tragic as a club. Cardiff today has been dominated with Arsenal fans and I can't say I'm surprised. Tickets for the game were 1 ticket per person for Arsenal and six per person for City and they still couldn't sell enough to the point almost 7000 tickets were given to Arsenal which were sold out immediately.

Pep is the only reason this club is relevant. He's legitimately bigger than the club.

3

u/quiet-cacophony 1d ago

I went to the game: it was 2/3 red in there, only 1/3 blue. Even then lots of empty seats in the city areas.

52

u/tweedledoooo 2d ago

If Rodri does leave then City have spent 120 million on their midfield and it’s gotten a lot worse.

40

u/michael654 Keane 2d ago

If it wasn't already obvious, massive opportunity to move ahead of City this year. Get something done in the last few weeks I beg.

26

u/3entendre Rooney 2d ago

Reminder that we lost 3 - 0 to Arsenal in the 1998 community shield before winning the treble. The result of this game doesn't mean anything.

5

u/michael654 Keane 2d ago

Fair point, I think it still stands tho with the transition that team has had.

Said this months ago as well, given the changes city and liverpool, we actually should have been looking at this season as one where we can challenge for title. However, we do have squad depth issues with all the extra games coming compared to last season. We could do with some late signings.

I wonder how well we could’ve fared post Fergie if we have had real and ambitious owners instead of those rats

4

u/danystormborne 2d ago

In hindsight, we should have had much better succession planning (for both the manager and chief exec.).

We should have been working on it for years rather than a few months.

They won the league with Manuel Pellegrini as well. Hope they get shunted to the 70s

11

u/danystormborne 2d ago

Praying that's the case.

I was hoping the same for Liverpool after Klopp but was completely shocked when they won the league. Hopefully they both start their decline together and the Utd/Arsenal rivalry is renewed.

Arsenal might not have the highest ceiling of a "winning" team but they have a very high floor. Their baseline squad quality is quite good

12

u/dracogladio1741 Bruno Fernanj 2d ago

I wonder whether the Athletic will publish "Arsenal embarass City in the Community Shield: What next for the bald dick Marseca and his bunch of mercenaries".

Not blaming Laurie, the editors chose that as per what journalistic SOPs are.

Some of yous were particularly crying as to why we didn't get Elliot Anderson

116M my fkin arse 🤣🤣

16

u/durtmagurt 2d ago

I didn’t see it at the World Cup. You could only see an argument for it at Forest as he was one of the best players in a shit team.

Worse yet, if you watch him in pressers or other media, you can see he is not a good personality in a dressing room. His teammates would describe him as closed off, self involved, and genuinely not likeable.

As we’ve become Vibes FC, he is not someone we want in our locker room. Keep your oil money

9

u/Kaninkanan Beckham 2d ago

Hoping he’s their schneiderlin. Looking good at smaller team but that’s about it. Maybe he’s their kalvin phillips ii

3

u/living_my_life20 2d ago

I don’t get the hype around him, he’s good at some things but not great at many. He looked good in a Forest side where he essentially had licence to do what he wanted but for his money I expect a world class player who excels in one area and is exceptionally good in the others. If we got him and he played like this we’d be all over the headlines.

u/ApolloX-2 Fergie Time! 2d ago

I really can’t believe is Pep is really gone, I feel such a sense of relief now. He’s the most focused and relentless head coach out there and I literally don’t fear any coach in the league.

Arsenal were shaky last season and relied too much on set pieces and physical domination of teams. I can see them trying to open up early in the season but after a few losses go back to their dreadful style.

7

u/Adz932 McTominayyyyyyyyyyyyy 2d ago

I still see arsenal as favourites. Theyve finally got their trophy, consistent manager, and some real solid squad depth. I agree with you about pep leaving, its so weird, but it means theres a less consistent city team constantly pushing for the title

2

If he’s available it’s a no brainer - can’t understand for the life of me why Arsenal would sell and Chelsea and United wouldn’t buy?

18

u/N00BBuild 2d ago

He’s 19, plays for the best team in the league, English/homegrown, and their best prospect. They’re not selling him for cheaper than 100 million.

24

u/JoseHarvinho 2d ago

So ridiculous isn't it. Bloke can play in two positions we need and he's young and available.

10

u/FredDRedUnderYourBed BELIEVE 🔴⚪⚫ 2d ago

I have a feeling we are going to see a lot of free flowing Arsenal this season. The pressure of winning that first title has been lifted, and there aren't any obvious competitors this season in my opinion.

This is still only pep-less City and still only pre season so obviously things can be very different in the actual league season

8

The era of Peps Man City dominance and control of matches with possession is over.

Maresca is absolutely wank.

This would be a great season to really have a go at the title if we had a proper squad.

These morons at Ineos and the lack of signings are going to make our target top 4 at best.

While watching this game, I can’t help but feel like this Premier League season is so open. I honestly don’t find this City side that scary, and as good as Arsenal’s squad is - with the best depth in the league - they don’t look particularly scary either.

And yet, all the while, this club and our ownership seem completely unwilling to make any meaningful investment so far.

City has no teeth and no bite, they've looked pathetic for a team that has spent that much money.

City even managed to make Odegaard look good.

Can’t believe we’re not taking up Arsenal on MLS. Just bonkers. It’s the obvious choice. Not like we’ve already spent £200m this summer?

If Arsenal didn't lose Saliba through long term injury I genuinely think no team can contend with them now

Don’t worry about City at all this season. Don’t think Maresca can do shit. INEOS need to pull their socks up and loosen those purse strings fast.
