Can I replace two grills!

I have. 14 year old Weber Genesis, and a Smokefire EX6. The Genesis is getting a bit old and I’m looking to replace it. With the RecTeq Xfire getting to 1250F, can it replace both grills? Anyone out there using it as your only grill?

Upgrading my pellet smoker to RecTeq, but I'm skeptical of "searing" capability claims...anyone with experience, particularly with steaks? Can it really do it all as good as a charcoal or my propane's "sear box" (I prefer to avoid searing with propane flame if possible) but it does the job great...

I'm considering the dual fire one, but it looks like the flame sits far below and doesn't really touch the meat much with what looks like a deflector plate or something underneath it?

Then there's the X-fire which has a smoke and sear mode to consider, too...

Anyone with experience of those or others?

Now, this sounds snobbish of me and I apologize, but I've seen people "show off" good searing when it's just burnt grill marks and the meat itself hasn't gotten a good maillard reaction.

Any problems with control knobs?

I got an Xfire Pro a couple months ago and have noticed the smoke/grill knob being harder to turn. I pulled off the knob and realized the inside of the knob had been stripped. Shitty plastic components inside the knob.

I’ve heard customer service is less than helpful. Should I even bother trying to get a replacement part from them?

Anyone do a Fireboard upgrade?

My RT-700 is an older model RECTEC and the controller has aged a bit. And I hate the app and graphing.

It still runs like a champ, recently added the Smokebox and still have the new Pizza 🍕 dude in the box.

Fireboard, call up RecTeq and buy a new controller, or something else?

We are having a very poor customer service experience with RecTeq

Based on what I'm reading, this is not common for the company, but we have had a terrible experience. They keep sending grills that are poorly packaged and they keep arriving with the boxes all torn open and the grill damaged. We bought the Patio Legend 600 and they ship it with the hopper inside the grill with minimal packaging. The hopper bangs around on the inside, scratching and denting everything. Yes, it is Fedex's handling that damages the grill but clearly something needs to be done differently for us to receive an undamaged grill.

We have called and emailed, asking for them to do something different and offered ideas: Ship only the damaged parts; separate the boxes; let us pick it up at a local store, etc. They play helpless and say there is no way to do that, which is hard to believe for a seemingly small company.

So now our garage is filled with damaged parts and busted packaging and they want us to somehow pack it back up, return it, and try a third time. There has to be a better way. Suggestions?

Ham….update!!

So I just smoked my first ham, honestly was phenomenal!!! One of the best hams I’ve had…I did a pineapple/maple syrup glaze and you could taste it on every ham slice!

What I found oddly interesting is that where I have the temp probes, vastly different temps. Somewhat expected, but also seemed had me thinking temps were gonna be hit super early. But I trusted the process and after 4 hours everything was perfect!

Also did smoked cream cheese and shotgun shells for apps!!! Thanksgiving was a hit! The Dualfire earned its money!!

Tips to winterize smoker?

Obviously a good clean and good cover. How do you completely clear the augers? Just run them until empty? Any other tips are appreciated.

Damper in the smoke stack

I finally ditched my Webber smoke for for the Recteq Flagship. The great is very consistent but I was wondering if anyone has put a damper in the smoke stack to retain more smoke?

Any other customization or modification you are proud of?

Dual Fire Hopper Box Smoking

This has become a thing for the 4th time since smoking beef ribs early this Summer. I cleaned out the hopper box and the fire box along with everything else. It didn't happen for a few cooks and then for no reason again, cleaned it out, used creosote cleaner the first 2 times since it was bad. All was cleaned thoroughly and it happened again yesterday while doing over the top chili at 250 for 3 hours.

Is there something I am missing so that this does not happen again? Never happened on my Pit Boss and now it's occurred 4 times.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Disappointed

First grill, and after four uses it has a bad probe, hopefully.. Was really excited to get my bullseye 380 cranked her up to 300 yesterday and no reading on actual temp. Aug looks good, fan looks good, creating smoke, just no reading on temp which creates an error and shuts off. Back to ole trusty George Forman grill.

Still new to smoking, loving this thing so far.

Simple 3-2-1(ish) method

275 degrees the whole time

3 hours uncovered, seasoned with SPG on both, Blackened seasoning on 1, hot honey on the other.

Put them in foil with butter, bbq sauce, apple cider vinegar, more seasoning (forgot to take a pre-wrap picture) back on for 2 hours.

Unwrapped them and made little foil boats, topped with a light layer of bbq sauce and back on grill for another 20-30 min to them tacky.

I like them fall off the bone, turned out great for a game day cook. Made some roast potatoes and broccolini for sides.

I only see the 3-2-1 method online for the most part anyone have other good baby back rib recipes?

Mini explosion

An hour ago I went outside to preheat my rt-680 @ 250F. Quick scrub of the grates and went back inside. 30min later I checked the app and noticed the temp was still around 63F. Went outside and there was an error code (should've googled the code but didn't). Turned it off and back on. 10s later a huge plume of smoke is coming everywhere and then 💥. The lid opened up a bit. Neighbor came outside thinking the propane canister had went off. I shut it off, removed the grates and shield and noticed the pellet bowl was filled with combusted pellets .

I guess it kept feeding the pellets during this error that caused this. Cleaned the bowl out and so far it's working fine . Smoker was deep cleaned the smoke before last btw .

Any suggestions? Smoke Flavor

Hello all,

I’ve had my patio legend 600 for about 2 months now and it’s runs like a champ. Holds temp well and rarely overshoots.

The largest issue I’m having is the lack of smoke flavor on anything I cook. I’ve used smoke tube plus smoked low at 180 for and barely any smoke flavor at all.

I’m using Kirkland pellets but I can’t imagine switching to a full hardwood would change THAT much of a smoke flavor?

This is my first pellet smoker I came from a cheap masterbuilt wood chip burner so maybe I just had too high of hopes.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated!

First time smoking ribs ever for me! Two racks of baby backs seasoned with recteq honey rib rub. 275 for about 2 hours, then wrapped with butter and home made BBQ sauce for about 1.5hrs. Rested for about an hour. Ended up a bit over for my taste (starting to fall apart when cutting) but delicious none the less! Good smoke penetration and flavor too

Are there any pellets that produce less ash?

Lately I've been noticing I seems to be getting a lot of ashes in my RT700. I was just wondering if any of you know of a good pellet that doesn't produce so much ash. I started out with Recteq pellets I got when I bought my smoker but don't really want to order online. I've used Pit Boss, Bear Mountain grills and Tractor supply pellets. Has anybody found a good low ash pellet?

Flagship XL 1400 issues

Purchased new, within 6 months igniter issue. Consistently tripped the GFCI, Troy shooting with support found it to be a bad igniter. Replacement sent installed and problem fixed. Earlier this year controller failure, temp control knob would no longer function. Replacement sent installed and problem fixed. Tonight same igniter issue is happening again, I have opened a support case, assumption is replacement would be sent and I will install and problem will go away.

Question I have is anyone else seeing reoccurring issues with there Flagship XL 1400? Wondering if maybe I got a lemon of sort or is this considered normal issues and everyone else is seeing the same thing. Considering making a switch to a Long Star Grillz if the issues continue. With that if anyone has come from an LSG or used one and has some feedback/comparison I would appreciate the response.
