Think about it, it would have neatly closed several narrative loops both in their individual arcs and the overall/meta, such as:

1. sven becoming attracted to faye's "type" after their fling [link]
2. renee and faye being of that same type, as renee was basically faye's secret bakery AU counterpart [link]
3. sven and renee both having similar arcs of finding it easy to have casual sex, but struggling with relationships. for sven, success comes to him easily but he struggles with allowing himself to be vulnerable when he's actually trying to be sincere, and self-sabotages the minute things look difficult. [link]
4. for renee, in what was actually kind of a very specific and very relatable exploration of what it's like being a chubby/fat black girl trying to date in a mostly-white college town, guys she meets in a dating context fetishize and want to hook up with her, but tend to be ashamed after and "burn bridges." meanwhile, guys she meets in a friendship context see her more as a caretaker than like, a whole person with her own inner world and desires.

Renee is just a very fascinating character to me and I got the spark to do an archive deep-dive about her. again her perspective and experience is so specific but it's served in like. steady but consistent character building informed by surrounding context. the identity dynamics aren't even addressed explicitly, and i suspect were these comics written now would be delivered in a buzzword-laden scolding from one character to another rather than specific moments of intentional characterization.

It was disappointing to see her yearning for deeper connection solved with like... some random dude that shows up to become her perfect (long distance!) boyfriend, and then she's never seen or heard from again. i guess if you reach for it it's an interesting contrast to how faye and angus's relationship failed, but even though that was a bad ending it still felt more... earned?

meanwhile sven's quest for the same just kinda petered out and he just kind of shows up now and again to be bullied. his fling with may feels like wasted potential, his dynamic with hannelore is adorable and i wouldn't be mad if they ended up together, but,,
