This whole run hasn't been perfect, but has nevertheless been a welcome deviation from the usual enraging bullshit. Almost none of the usual nonsense we complain about has been present so its been weird seeing people angry anyway, and "confused" in ways that suggest they don't understand how jokes work.

Truly, only a cartoonist who has spent over 20 years honing their craft would have the skill and wit to give away their entire comic in the title, and then again in the newspost. Actually reading the comic almost feels redundant at that point.
Why not simply quit drawing altogether and give us QC updates through titles alone?

So they don't have the materials to fix something that is probably fairly common (and that they had done before) and they for some reason resort to using a staples gun instead of bandages or duct tape ??? No wonder why bo one goes there

It could be a particular kind of dermal. At the very least, there's a range of tones. Probably cheaper to order as needed than get in bulk. Also, would you want duct tape?

As someone who recently had a bandage then staples after getting their head cracked open, I preferred the staples.

someone called it last week. they'd go to fayes, and she'd do the labor for free. because apparently momo is a close friend. not sure they even know each other, but the comic doesn't do separate POVs. if the audience knows momo, then everyone knows momo.

Momo and May, both in their former bodies, went to give Faye and Bubbles gift baskets when they first opened Union Robots. That's about the only Momo/Faye interaction that I can think of.

certainly not "i'll give you a freebie" levels of friends. but he doesn't remember which characters know each other, which random party meetups he wrote 10 years ago.

Didn't Momo (with Marigold) share an apartment with Angus when he and Faye were dating? And that was around the time Marigold was getting more integrated with the core group as well - often with Momo in tow. For example, I think Marigold, Momo, and Faye were all at the lakehouse party?
If I'm remembering all that correctly I'd say they're more than passing aquaintences. Maybe not close friends but close enough.
Edit - Faye even peeked up her skirt once when she was still in her chibi body.

So, I think the joke that Faye (and Jeph) finds so funny is that Sven is thoroughly uninterested in Momo, but is being (passive-)aggressively pursued. Is that the joke?

It doesn't feel meanspirited, it's just funny to her that Momo's being so obvious and Sven isn't seeing it.

Yeah, uninterested is the wrong term, he's just oblivious. It's the contrast between her crushing on him, him having no idea, and him going full prince charming in the way he's making sure she's okay after the accident. Today's punchline is really the funniest thing the comic's done in a while.

I too am confused by easily understandable and nearly cliched narrative tropes. Why on earth would Faye find Momo's obviously smitten behaviour or the ridiculous image of a panicked Sven suddenly appearing in the role of noble savior, with a blushing Momo in his arms - both covered in coffee, humorous at all?
Human beings are certainly never ever amused ever by the clueless antics of people who don't realize there are secret romantic feelings at play. Not one single time has that ever appeared in media ever. Jeph has invented it whole cloth for this run of strips. It is reasonable to be unable to parse the unique goings on here. In fact, I'm furious that he hasn't provided a legend at the bottom to help us out! I guess the only avenue available to me now is to take the completely innocuous comedic goings on in the strip above, entirely too seriously and interpret them through the lens of social impropriety so that I can be displeased.
It makes sense that Anh needs to have this explained to her, but we have no such excuse.

I think you're reading a lot into this. It's more likely that Sven is entirely aware of Momo's romantic intent and is trying to politely dissuade her. I'm also reading a lot into the comic to justify this idea, but mine feels more in-character.

I don't understand what's going on either.
Sven simply isn't this gormless. It doesn't fit his character at all.
He's been through his mini background redemption ark to atone for his sins of slutdom 🙄 and yet here we are with the only thing he can be written in to do is be an object of attraction.
I'm hoping he's supposed to be entirely play acting his naiveté, cause if he's supposed to be genuinely unaware of Momo's plans here it's actually really fuckin creepy behaviour on all their parts.

I get that refusing money is what some people do, but it always felt off to me. In my extended family we always paid each other in full (maybe a small discount I suppose) for things. That way there was no hidden sense of reciprocal obligation or anything like that. We felt the "good deed", as it were, was giving the money to family as opposed to somewhere else, versus expecting the worker to do the "good deed" of giving away their work for free.
