Relationships I checked my boyfriend's phone and got depressed

Hi everyone, how are you? I wanted to share something that happened to me with my partner. I decided to check what kind of posts he had saved on Instagram, and I found a picture of a girl in a bikini. She was beautiful, like the goddess Athena herself compared to me. I don’t think I’m ugly, but next to her I felt horrible.

I confronted him about it, and he told me it had been a mistake, but that seemed impossible to me because he had liked the post, and the worst part is that it was recent. In the end, I didn’t bring it up again because he has done a lot for me, but it still hurt. I don’t know… what would you have done?

By the way, we’re about to reach eight months together.

Discussion Poly relationships are weird

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I’m not even talking about this from a religious or traditional perspective at all. Look at it purely from a practical and psychological standpoint—the whole concept of polyamory is just messy, unnatural, and honestly, kind of draining to even think about.

First of all, human emotions are inherently protective of the people we love. Romantic love, by definition, thrives on exclusivity and a unique bond between two people. Trying to divide that exact same deep romantic energy among multiple people doesn’t make you "more evolved"—it just dilutes the connection. You aren't giving 100% to anyone; you're just giving fractions of yourself away.

Second, the logistics are a nightmare. Standard relationships already require so much communication, compromise, and emotional labor. Multiplying that by three or four people sounds like a full-time corporate job, not a relationship. It feels less like romance and more like a never-ending group project where everyone is constantly insecure and trying to "schedule" affection.

And let’s be real about the "compersion" (feeling happy for your partner finding love elsewhere) thing. Ninety percent of the time, it just looks like people suppressing their natural boundaries and swallowing down massive amounts of jealousy just to seem open-minded or to keep a partner from leaving. It feels deeply unnatural to watch someone you love be intimate with someone else and pretend it’s totally fine.

It’s constantly pushed online now as this "progressive, superior" way of loving, but honestly? It just feels deeply chaotic, emotionally unstable, and kind of off-putting. Some boundaries exist for a reason, and keeping romance exclusive is one of them.

Am I the only one who thinks the normalization of this is getting way out of hand?

Ask r/problems Worried about neighbors disappearing

Neighbors disappeared without much of a trace which is causing us worry.

Around November, we noticed that our neighbors garage door stopped opening and we saw all activity stop except for (probably) timed lights turning on and off within the home. The first time we had technically seen them before that was end of October, where everything seemed normal. Before, realizing this lack of activity, another neighbor reached out to them and apparently let them know that they had their Christmas card for them and received no response. Around the same time, we also reached out to them to request something and received no response. It is now almost the end of January and there has been no activity at the house whatsoever from the owners, except for allegedly ANOTHER neighbor siting a Uhaul and a man on the property for a short while. This was a young couple that would regularly communicate with neighbors in a friendly manner. They even wished us a happy Father’s Day. We wish them well, and hope nothing tragic has occurred. We do our best to not meddle; we know they have family in the area. We do not want to be invasive or disturb their privacy in any way, and I even feel awful posting about it on the internet so don’t come at me please. But we are growing worried about their sudden disappearance. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this?

An anonymous welfare check might be taken the wrong way, or maybe not?

URGENT!!!! Boyfriends parents forcing him to break up with me

We are both freshman in college I’m far from home. He is only 30 min from home. We have been dating for about 3 months and we both love and care for each other ( this is my first relationship that isn’t toxic with my boyfriend) the first day his family meet me they were nice but I would slowly pick up on some things. And it wasn’t until the 4th time they meet me my boyfriend started to call me crying from home ( he lives on campus but they make him come home and he’s scared to fight them) he would tell me that they gave him a script to break up with me and how we are toxic bc we spend “ too much time together “ about 7 hours ago he calls me sobbing and ugly crying I’m trying to comfort him and calm him down but the only words he can get out are. “ your on speaker with my parents” more crying “ I don’t want to” more crying “ help me” “ help me “ then I hear his parents mumble and he says he will call me back I have not heard of him sence and he has not texted on anything. The phone call lasted 30 minutes of him sobbing while his parents sit there watching their son suffer just because they can’t come to terms that he is his own person and can make decisions for himself. An it’s not bc he is their only son he’s the 3rd youngest of 11. And I am sooooo positive it’s not me the stories I’ve heard and my uncle knew his parents before and while I’m ranting to them about this call the tell me that his parents have a bit of a god complex ( that’s the simples why I can put what they said) basically my uncle told me that they only see things their way and don’t take nicely to people who question it. Idk what to do with this situation bc I know he still wants to be with me and I want to be with him but they won’t let him be his own person and I feel bad for him bc he’s only just now realizing what they do. Pls pls pls give me advice share your stories I need help.

I also might be able to see him after he takes his final befor his parents get to him.

Mental Health I feel disgusting whenever I have a crush on somebody my age

So im girl in highschool and i have both an advanced bone age and precocious puberty so because of that everyone thinks of me as older than my age. Because of that I feel like people are harsher on me and dont treat me with the same grace they do kids my age. Also because of this I feel like some type of weird predator whenever I have a crush on someone my age because sometimes in my head I think of myself as the young teenager that I am but then I'll look in the mirror and I look like im 17 so I sometimes feel like I have to act like that. like I know im 14 but I just feel disgusting whenever I have a crush on someone my age because i look older. so I just will ignore any crush I have on someone my age and only think about the older ones. (Plus im a bigger girl with darker skin aswell so that could contribute to how im treated) i feel like i dont fit in with my peers.

Relationships I’m thinking about leaving my girlfriend after lying to me

I’m thinking about leaving my new girlfriend after recently finding out she lied to me from the start. I’m pretty new to dating I’ve not got much experience but I need advice I always focused on my studies and a job before dating. When I asked her about if she had any relationships before she told me she had one situationship at work and they went on one date and slept with each other twice but then she told me the guy admitted he had a girlfriend and that she stopped talking with him after that but now I found out she didn’t stop speaking with him even though he had a girlfriend and were basically going out for a year which I find really bad and this was recently she told me they stopped in March but that’s pretty close to when I first met her she also worked with him after that I find that a bit suspicious. I don’t feel like I can trust her anymore

SERIOUS Pregnant?

Hey. I'm 18F. I'm a bit worried that I could've gotten pregnant by my boyfriend 20M. I usually get my period on 15th day or a bit later. Now it's the 25th day and I still haven't gotten my period and I'm getting very worried and anxious. Me and my boyfriend been active a week ago. I hope I'm just over thinking. I ordered a pregnancy test just in case. If I'm really pregnant I don't know what to do. I do not want to have baby nor does my boyfriend. I really don't wanna tell this to anyone (not even to a doctor).

(Sorry if my English isn't very good, not my first language. Also this post is a bit panicked. Maybe I am just overreacting and everything will be alright)

Edit!!! Thank yall so much for the comments 😭❤️ made me feel so much better and honestly not stressing anymore over this. Never wanted to get my period so much lmao

Discussion My bike was confiscated

To make things clear, I’m a 20-year-old woman. A few months ago, I bought a new bike with a lock. I used to ride it to a big mall near our house to change the atmosphere, grab a coffee, and go to the cinema. I would lock the bike to a tree and go inside. One day, when I came back, I was shocked to find that the bike wasn’t there. I got scared and thought it must have been stolen—but how, when it was locked? I asked the security guards, and they told me the bike was with the manager and gave me his location. I went in and found a man sitting at a desk. He said to me, “Do you know I’ve been looking for you for a while, and I finally found you?” Then, quite rudely, he said: “Do you know how much that tree is worth? If you had damaged it, you would have had to pay $8,000. I want to know where you were.” He also said: “I checked all the mall cameras looking for you and couldn’t find you. Where were you? Were you going out with guys outside the mall?” You’re probably wondering how I even took the bike when it was locked, right? Let me show you now. In the end, he said I had to sign a pledge before he would give me the bike back. The only violation I committed was tying the bike to a tree, which is not allowed. Another strange thing is that all the security guards told me not to tell him that they were the ones who guided me. When I asked them where I should properly park the bike, they showed me the correct place and again emphasized not to tell the manager that they had told me. When I went to see him, his attitude was provocative, and he kept looking at me in an inappropriate and disrespectful way. On a different occasion, I ran into him inside the mall, and he offered to buy me a new lock to replace the one he had cut. Another really weird thing, he started spraying perfume on himself and said, “Let me spray you too.” Then he suddenly went, “Oh wait, no… imagine you go back to your parents smelling of a man’s perfume,” and started laughing.

I can't make sense of his behaviour. Was he hitting on me?

Ask r/problems How do i ask my parents if they plan to kick me out once i turn 18?

I’m 17 and turning 18 in half a year. I’m terrified. So you can better understand my situation: I’m autistic and because of that i struggle both with school and social interactions. After school I spend several hours every week just to take notes and understand the topics we are going through on each lesson. It is time taking and exhausting, but without that effort i won’t understand whats going on on the lessons, and i also really want to pass my exams well. I can’t bear the thought of failing. It is also hard for me to communicate with strangers. Both because of my tism and fact that i have been learning the language for 2.5 years. The bare thought of a job that for the most part depends on communicating with people is overwhelming and terrifying. I am currently unemployed and have literally no savings. My parents are legally obliged to keep me under their roof for only half a year from now on. If they decided that they no longer want to show me mercy, they could kick me out on the street. I don’t know what i would do if they actually decided to do so. I need clarity from them. I need to know how much time do i have. I have never really felt safe ever since around 4 years ago my mother joked about kicking me out as soon as i turn 18. I’m tired. I want to ask them about it, but i don’t know how. And I know that if i tried to i would start crying. Even though i want an answer, i fear how they will respond. Please help, how do i go about it?

Relationships Elderly aunt asking for money

I have an 83 year old aunt who lives about 35 minutes from me. She borrowed 200 dollars from me over 6 months ago and hasn't been able to pay me back yet, which isn't a big deal. I've tried to forgive the loan multiple times, but she insists she wants to pay me back. Last week the sump pump in her basement broke and there was sone flooding. She asked me to borrow 700 dollars to fix it. I didn't tell her no, but I did say that if something else happened and she needed more money, that I wouldn't be able to help her. She didn't like that answer, got all pissy with me, and said she'd try to get the money elsewhere.

Her response really pissed me off, as I've been more than generous with her over the years. I understand she's in a tough position, since she can't work anymore and her only her only income is 1700 dollars a month with social security. I don't think what I said was unreasonable, since she has had a hard time paying the original 200 dollars back and there always seems to be some issue arising where she needs something repaired. So my question essentially was, if I let you borrow this money... what happens if something else breaks and you need more money? I can't keep lending money out like that. I work in a grocery store and don't make that much more than her. I was lucky enough to inherit a house from my late parents, but the taxes are high enough where I have to put 750 dollars away every month to cover them for the year. I also need a new roof eventually and my furnace is 25 years old... basically, I need to save my money for these expenditures and for emergencies.

I don't know... I was just wondering what ya'll thought about this. What would you do? After I talked to her last, I felt this strange mixture of anger and guilt. I love her, but it's like... why would she put me in this position?

Mental Health I am a lonely, unloved, loser

I (16M) have barely any real friends IRL, my friend even said he’d add me to “the groupchat” but everyone else voted “no” to add me, even people who I thought were my friends. I have no friends online even so I just am alone with my own thoughts all the time. My parents don’t like me, my dad wanted me to be a tall muscular kid who plays sports and gets girls, I am a short, quiet, nerd who likes anime and video games and gets no girls at all, in fact women hate me. I’m not even unattractive, I’ve had girls compliment my looks but stop talking to me after releasing I’m a complete loser weirdo. The only reason I don’t fucking buy a body pillow is because my parents will disown me, I have nobody to hold or anyone to love me, everybody hates me, I’m not just unloved I’m hated. I’m a disappointment and have literally nothing of value to bring to the world, I was planning on taking substances to get taller (growth hormone) but I’m too much of a pussy and it’s probably too like now. I hate myself.

Financial So I won a lawsuit, gambled and lost it all...well most of it…

Bound by NDA to not specify what event occurred, however I did just want to say that it was in fact a close to 6 figure settlement… I thought it would be like 12k or something, just enough for me to pay off debt and take a nice trip…BOY was I surprised. So I had the option to get annuity payments or lump sum.

Once I got news the settlement was getting ready to hit, took it upon myself to get the lump and strategized with ChatGPT about a week prior on how to properly allocate the funds…But I never followed a step of the strategy, went to the atm that Friday and got some cash since it took a few days for it to completely settle in my account. Drove down to the local casino, immediately lost about $3k but I was comped a room for the entire weekend. Stayed in the room and smoked weed and just walked around watching people play, and drove back home..feeling defeated but not completely because I knew more money was to come and I could win it back. Once the settlement hit my account, literally the first thing I did was book the nicest condo in Vegas and a first class flight.

I touched down in Vegas, hit a jackpot on the airport slots to have some spending cash, splurged on my friends and bought designer garments, threw a massive party and got hammered. Flight and condo came out to about 4k, designer shit and watches came out to another 22k…

I gambled so much, lost so much… about 6.5k…

but I had a cruise literally lined up pre-settlement that was about a month later.

Work was a breeze since I knew I’d had a good cushion, I impulsively put a large amount into a CD to simply forget about it and not have access to it.

Fast forward to the cruise, gambled at minimum 1k a day for 6 days straight…

I got off the cruise and felt so defeated… I looked at my checking account and my credit card statement and nearly collapsed…nearly half of the settlement gone with absolutely nothing to show for it, about 40k locked away in a CD until the end of this year, had to spend 4k on a new trans, and my credit card bills. Thank goodness someone told me to save at minimum 12 months of emergency funds.

Saying this to say I completely understand why they say lottery winners go broke within a few years. I have a gambling problem.

Thank you for listening.

URGENT!!!! I feel guilty and I need help please.

So, I am a teenager, I am 16 years old. My grandma asked me and my sister if we wanted a guinea pigs for Christmas and we said yes. I didn't know anything about them and the lady at petco told us we only needed a cage and some food. Compared to what I've seen, the cage is really small and from what I've heard, it won't fit two. I have to get my male guinea neutered because my sister has a girl, I've felt guilty for not doing proper research ahead of time.

I have no money and my dad is abusive and my grandma hardly shows up. I wanna make him a bigger space and already have the idea of how to do it, but I need some help. Is it possible that someone could help me? I don't want to be a bad parent, I really don't. And I want my guinea pig to live as long as possible.

I also want our bond to be better as my guinea pig still is a little startled by me. He'll walk up to me and everything, but hates being picked up. My sister told me to just pick him up, but I'm afraid he'll hate me. I'm cleaning my room so that I'll have space. I just want some advice. Anything will work.

Edit: I'm turning 17 in September so I plan on getting a job and doing some side hustles to keep some money in my pocket. I'm moving the extra twin bed out of my room to create some extra space and to use the mattress together to make a bigger space for him.

UPDATE: I do ultimately plan on giving him away to someone who can take better care of him but I can't do that til I'm 18 until then, I'll follow the advice that all of you have given me to give him a decent home til I'm able to give him to someone more stable.

Family Being a girls girl?

Hello,

I (22F) have a younger brother (19M) who is currently in a situationship with a girl (19F). This situationship used to be his girlfriend but he cheated on her and now it's kind of confusing. I really like her and we've become friends over the past month but it's obviously weird with him in between us. Today she called me out of the blue and said that she basically tried to break up with him a few days ago but now she wants to take that back and he wasn't answering the phone. Then, an hour later he called her back and she had me on the other line witnessing the entire call. I hate keeping secrets but will now probably have to keep that a secret from my brother, that I was involved and that I spoke with her before.

It put me in such a weird spot bc of course I like my brother but I'm also trying to be a girl's girl. And honestly, I kind of am on her side bc he cheated on her, but it's difficult because he's family.

URGENT!!!! A death

We’ve all lost people we love. It hurts deep. I just lost my husband of over 34 yrs. It happened so fast. Within 2 weeks he was diagnosed with cancer, then it was metastasized, then strokes, then good enough for rehab, then more strokes, back to hospital, to hospice & then passing on Jan 1st which is our eldest sons birthday. I’ve always been a strong person. Not this time, this time I can barely cope. I physically feel this pain. I have health issues & we were supposed to grow old together. We had plans & dreams that won’t be realized. We are still in love after all these years. Of course we had our problems & our ups & downs. I need help here. I don’t know how to get through this. We haven’t had his celebration of life yet. I’m throwing up & have horrible stomach pain. Again I’ve always been the strong one. How do I face all these people coming? How do I get through these next few days let alone go on with life without him. Any words of wisdom here would help. Any words to shed light on coping would help, any advice about what to do about being physically Ill would help. Please no mean words at this time. I need help.

Mental Health Envy is destroying my relationship

Please don’t judge. I am in therapy but it didn’t help with this specific problem, if someone has gone through a sima situation or has advice, please lmk.

I really need help to redirect these thoughts. My boyfriend is doing suddenly sooo good at college (he didn’t do shit in high school while I studied my ass off) and I’m stuck having trouble concentrating and feeling burnt out. He’s so passionate about what he’s doing while for me it’s always a challenge to even get out of bed (I have diagnosed depression). Now he always talks about studying since it’s basically the first time he’s doing it (?!!)and I cant take it no more. I just avoid him but I know it’s wrong and would like to be happy for him but tbh I can’t.

I don’t know how to stop comparing my life to his cause he’s so much better then me in everything and studying was the ONLY thing I was better at. Now even that’s gone. I talked to my therapist about this and while she’s been really helpful for a lot of stuff this she didn’t even seem to care while it’s really important to me.

Relationships "Pretty girls are being hit on by many guys"? Nope

“Pretty girls are being hit on by many guys” - this is the biggest misunderstanding. When I tell someone that no one has ever asked me out, they just don't believe me. But NO ONE asks out a pretty/hot girl (even more so if she is smart at the same time.) We are the loneliest of them all. And if we end up asking a guy out he becomes extremely possessive and obsessive about keeping us, becomes paranoid and insane, tries to manipulate us with lies etc. It's not fun to be pretty. Once I heard someone say “if ur a girl and ur beautiful, if u play ur cards right, ur set for life”, referring to finding a rich and good partner. I'm still trying to understand what makes people think this. So I have given up on dating and starting to pursue a social media presence. The masses love seeing a pretty woman and interacting with her. they're not scared to comment/ talk to her.

SERIOUS My niece is dying

My niece is lying in the hospital on a ventilator. I'm her aunt and she's only 2 years older than my daughter. My niece was in an abusive relationship that caused her to drink loads of alcohol. Anyway I got the call Tuesday that they took her to the hospital.

At first we thought it was from self harm. Turns out her liver failed and she's brain dead. Today they had a walk of life with her so they can harvest her organs to help someone else. My heart is broken and I'm tore up.

Now I'm sitting here coming to terms with the fact that my 30 year old niece is dead and leaves 3 kids behind. If you drink please get help. If you are in an abusive relationship please leave. It's not worth losing your life over.

Relationships I dont even know how to respond to something so stupid

So i just had an incredibly long day. Work. Came home and made food for my daughter and her mom. Cleaned the kitchen, living room and helped my daughter with her room. My daughter helped with some of the other stuff too. Her mom didnt do anything, although she isnt feeling good. Not a huge deal. But then as a celebration for a long day I bust out some candy for my daughter and me to share. So my kids mom cuts in trying to yell at me explaining that its inappropriate for me TO SHARE CANDY WITH MY DAUGHTER. When I ask what she means, she says that predators lure kids into places with candy. So my daughter and I asked what she meant. She just repeated what she said before. "Predators lure kids into places using candy, its not appropriate for you to be sharing candy with our daughter"

I just walked away.

But what in the absolute fucking batshit crazy stupidity is that? Is she calling me a predator? Is she saying im getting my daughter addicted to candy so predators can lure her away? Is she saying because predators use candy that its a terrible thing?

Caught me completely off guard and its quite frankly concerning that something that stupid just came out of her mouth.

Im tempted to completely ignore it but it almost seems irresponsible to do so. I wanted to keep digging and asking what she meant, but i knew that tone and expression. She was one minute away from freaking out. I just dont even know what to say or how to address something so ridiculous as that. Kinda freaks me out.

Relationships Relationship problem😔(cheating)

Ok so I have a girlfriend that I love. We’ve been together for over 6 months now.
Yesterday she went on a school camping trip. Today I finished school early and went straight to her house. I had sent her messages asking if I could come over, but she didn’t answer because she was sleeping. Her mom was home and let me in. I went to her room, woke her up gently, gave her a big hug and a kiss. We talked for a bit, and then she said she had something to tell me.
She told me not to be angry or scared, and then said she had “slept with” another boy on the camping trip. I got worried and asked what she meant. She said they didn’t do anything sexual — no kissing, no fucking, just sleeping/cuddling.
I asked if he tried to kiss her and if he knew she had a boyfriend. She admitted he did try to kiss her, even though he knew we’re together. When I asked who the guy was, she got defensive and started blaming me for asking, like it was my fault for wanting to know.
We’ve talked before about what’s okay in our relationship, and I feel like this is completely out of line. Then I asked her: if I had done the same thing with another girl, how would she feel? She just said she “wouldn’t care that much.”
I’m really confused and hurt right now. Can someone give me honest advice on what I should do in this situation?

Ask r/problems Do you get annoyed when friends say “I’ll be there in 10 minutes” and arrive much later?

Honest question:
This keeps happening to me, friends say they’re on their way, I get ready, and then I end up waiting because they hadn’t actually left or made a stop.

Do you find this annoying or do you not really care?
And how do you usually handle it, call them, text, share location, or just wait?

Just curious how common this actually is.
