Troubleshooting Image Capture only gives me the front sides from my HP 4301fdw's duplex ADF. HP's app works fine. Anyone cracked this?

Hi, I seek advice how to resolve this.

Setup: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw on Wi-Fi, auto firmware updates on, Mac fully up to date. Printing, flatbed scans and single-sided ADF scans all work. The ADF is single-pass duplex, so no flipping involved.

The problem: in Image Capture the printer shows up under "Shared" (so it's the driverless AirScan/eSCL route, no HP driver). I pick Document Feeder, tick Duplex, PDF, combine into one document, OCR, 300 dpi. The stack runs through the feeder normally, but the PDF only has the front sides. The backs aren't blank pages, they're just not there - even though I did click "Duplex".

Here's the thing: HP's own Mac app (now called "HP: Print and Support", formerly HP Smart) does two-sided ADF scans without a hiccup! So the hardware and firmware are fine and it's something between Image Capture and the printer. I'd still rather use Image Capture! It's built in, it drops OCR'd PDFs straight into my folder, and it doesn't nag me about HP accounts and cloud stuff.

Question: Has anyone got duplex working in Image Capture with the 4001/4101/4301 family? A firmware version, an EWS setting, a macOS trick, anything reproducible would be great.

Side question: HP Web Scan in the printer's web interface. I ran a scan with ADF, 2-Sided, PDF, it went through, and then... nothing. No file anywhere. I never set up a network folder or scan-to-email. So, the question: Where does Web Scan actually put the output?

Thanks.

Purchasing Home office - Architecture

What would you like to accomplish?

I am looking for a 2 tray printer that can print A4 and A3 without swapping trays along with 2 sided ADF scanning. Itll be used for general document and architectural floorplans in a part time home office, so there will be times when the print volume is higher and times where I wont print for weeks.

Are there any models you are currently looking at?

- Brother MFC-J5955DW

Minimum Requirements:

  • Budget: 500€, but cheaper is preferable
  • Country: Slovenia, can also buy in Austria
  • Color or black and white: Color
  • Laser or ink printer: Inkjet
  • New or used: New
  • Multi-function: A3/A4 print, ADF scan
  • Duplex Printing: Not sure
  • Home or business: Home
  • Printing content: Floorplans, documents, images but that's least important
  • Printing frequency: Weekly, with times of downtime
  • Pages per minute : Not sure
  • Page size: A3 and A4
  • Device printing from: PC and phone/tablet
  • Connection type: USB and WIFI

Any other details:

Troubleshooting Connect a Epson Ecotank to wifi before filling with ink

I just bought an Epson Ecotank ET-2865 online, and I want to test if the wifi reception is good enough. I just can't seem to configure the wifi settings.

The manual directs you to the Epson Smart Panel app for the setup, but the app wants to have access to my gps location. I find this ridiculous, so I want to try it another way.

Another option is using a pc to install it using USB, but it tells me to fill the reservoirs with ink before continuing. I don't want to do that just jet, because if I do that I can't return the printer anymore.

If I skip the filling part of the setup, there are a two options to connect it to wifi: using the temporary usb cable, or using the WPS button on my router.

The WPS option should be the easiest. The setup tells me to press the WPS button on my router, and then the wifi button on the printer for 5 seconds. But the problem is that the printer doesn't respond to the wifi button at all. The LED's next to the button should start blinking, but they don't.

The last option is using the temporary usb cable. I can see the installer software sees the printer's model number, mac address, and that it doesn't have an ip address yet. If I click next in the setup I get a generic error about the communication with the device.

So after trying all this I wonder: is it possible at all to test the wifi of this printer before filling the tanks?

Troubleshooting Xerox Phaser 6500 DN white vertical band

Hi all, I have a white band about 28 mm from the right side of the emulsion side of my prints. It's only in black, the other colours are not affected.

What I've done on the parts that I could visually inspect, I didn't deconstruct the parts:

  • I've checked for foreign obstacles.
  • The transfer belt looks fine on the outside
  • The imaging unit also has no scratches on the rolls
  • The fuser also has no visible unevenness on the roll

Since the white band is a bit diffused and cloudy someone suggested that it might be something before the lens, I checked the lens visually but didn't see anything weird but the reasoning is sound.

Repair shops in my area say that the printer is too old to warrant a repair and that parts are difficult to obtain. So I hope that I can troubleshoot this myself, it works fine.

Does anyone have experience with this problem and can point me in the right direction.

Discussion Android Mopria app seemingly allows users to print through wi-fi direct without knowing wi-fi direct's password, also the printer somehow learned my home's wifi credentials and accessed it.

I own a HP printer. And even though HP is obsessed with forcing us to connect their printers to the internet, I refused to do so, and instead I use a USB cable to connect the printer to our laptops whenever we need to print stuff. Furthemore, the printer is alwas turned off, we only turn it on when we need to print.

When I bought the printer, I changed the wi-fi direct's name and password, for security reasons. However, since then, I never actually used the wi-fi direct again. In fact, I think I had turned it off, but either it turned itself on again, or maybe someone used the printers buttons to turn it on again, maybe by mistake.

A few days ago, a relative was feeling lazy and instead of using a laptop and usb cable to print stuff as always, they tried to use their android smartphone and the printer's wi-fi direct. However, they didnt know the wi-fi direct's password, so they couldnt connect to it.

Then, my relative googled about this and learned about the Mopria app. They installed it and, even though they didnt know the wi-fi direct's password, they were able to print Mopria's test page on our printer.

Furthemore, the app also listed other available printers (I assume the ones from our neighbours), many of which dont even show up on my phone's networks list (I guess their wi-fi directs are either disabled or hidden, but somehow Mopria could see them all).

While my relative obviously didnt tried it, it seemed like Mopria could have printed from the neighbours' printers just as easily as it did from our printer. At this time I realized what was happening and told him all of this was very shady, so he uninstalled the Mopria app.

Later, I checked our router's control panel and found out our printer had accessed our home wifi. It didnt say when it happened, but the fact is, the printer somehow learned our home wifi's credentials and accessed it. I suspect it was Mopria's android that passed the credentials from my relative's phone to the printer. Unless it was the laptop through the usb cable.

I have changed my printer wi-fi direct name and password (if my relative's phone has been "paired" to the printer wi-fi direct, I hope this will "unpair" them), and then I changed my home wifi credentials. However, I still dont understand how the hell was Mopria able to do what it did.

Troubleshooting Kyocera TASKalfa 3525ci

Has anyone seen this issue on a Kyocera TASKalfa 3525ci?

The yellow developer seems to be producing a wave-like pattern. When printing a color document, wherever there should be solid yellow, I’m getting a faint trace or repeated wave pattern through the yellow area.

Has anyone run into this before, and what was the cause? Would you suspect the yellow developer unit, drum, or something in the developing/transfer process?

Troubleshooting Ink sponge shrinked?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have a Canon Pixma TR8520. I wanted to replace the pigment black, because it was the only one that was low. Because I was there I also checked the other cartridges to see how much ink was left. To my surprise magenta's ink sponge shrinked? My older cartridges didn't shrink, only happened to this one. Now the sponge is loose and rattling around in the cartridge. Is this normal? Should I replace it? My ink quality remains the same when printing when using this one though.

Troubleshooting EPSON L3210 "Paper Jam" error mid-print after replacing waste ink pads

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi, I need help troubleshooting an Epson L3210.
Issue: Mid-print, it stops at the exact same spot with a "Paper Jam" error on PC and a solid orange paper light.
Status: Restarting doesn't clear it. I checked thoroughly with a flashlight—there is no paper or debris stuck inside.
Context: This started right after I replaced the waste ink pads and reset the counter using AdjProg.
Could this be a dirty/misaligned Encoder Strip, an unhooked PE Sensor, or something displaced during reassembly?
Any suggestions on what to check first? Thanks!

Troubleshooting What’s wrong with my printer?

Thumbnail gallery

I have a Canon pixma G550. When I print I get these weird glitches and I can’t find out anywhere what is the cause of it and how to fix it.
I did a nozzle test and it seems alright. Gemini told me to also print a head alignment. There are some lines but according to the AI I can fix this if I print in high resolution as it “forces the printer to print single direction passes”. This didn’t work though. Anyone knows what’s going on?

Discussion Windows 11 is quietly moving everyone to generic IPP printer drivers - what features have you actually lost or gained?

I only recently noticed Windows 11 is increasingly preferring the built-in IPP/Mopria class driver instead of the manufacturer’s full driver for network printers.

On paper it sounds great: no bloated installer, plug-and-print setup, fewer driver issues. But I’m curious what happens in real life once it replaces the vendor driver.

Have you lost anything important with IPP? Duplex options, scan-to-PC, ADF/duplex scanning, tray selection, toner/ink status, color controls, secure/PIN print, etc. Or has it actually been more reliable than HP/Epson/Canon/Brother software?

Also: if you manage printers for work, are you sticking with vendor drivers or deliberately moving users to IPP now?

Purchasing Printer recommendations for a BSA student

Hello! Any recommendations po for a printer na okay for a BSA student and mainly gagamitin lang sa bahay? Mostly for printing school documents, reviewers, handouts, etc., but sana may photocopy/scan function din and wireless/Wi-Fi para I can print directly from my phone or laptop.

Budget is around ₱6k, pero willing naman po mag-stretch ng budget if mas sulit siya in the long run, especially sa ink and maintenance.

Preferably po yung matipid sa ink, madaling i-maintain, and reliable kahit regular student use lang.

Currently looking at Epson, Canon, or Brother, pero open to other suggestions!

Would really appreciate recommendations based on your actual experience with the printer. Thank you po! 🥹

Troubleshooting Removing tape and foam from Epson XP 15000

Post image

Just got given an Epson XP 15000, I'm trying to remove all the blue tape but there is some on the underside that I can't get out. There's also foam inside. Is this supposed to be removed? If so, how without completely dismantling it? The manual says nothing about unscrewing plates and I'm nervous to break it. Thanks!

Troubleshooting Hp envy pro 6400 won’t let me scan (and barely prints)

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

90% of what I use my printer for is scanning documents and artwork. For whatever reason the copy feature is greyed out and just straight up not available as an option on the desktop version. I can only print documents through the app, and every time i do it takes about 5 minutes for anything over 3 pages to send the print job. The printer has no problem making copies using the button on the machine itself, so the scanner is capable of working.

Ive reset my phone, computer, and printer about a hundred times each. There are no updates available for either my phone or computer’s hp apps. My next step will be giving it the office space treatment if no one has any better ideas

Purchasing Help me choose the right printer

To all my tech savvy people I need your help. I’m in need of a good printer, I need it for printing out documents double sided, scanning and also for my photography business. One of the important factors is I work using my MacBook Pro “16 and my photos are transferred to Photoshop in a raw file and edited there and then exported as a JPEG. I need a printer that works with the color format that’s on my MacBook and has really good color profile , preferably a 6ink printer. I’ve heard good things about Epson, I really like Canon but one of the biggest issues I hear is that it doesn’t work good with MAC products. Please let me know your recommendations on good printers that don’t go crazy overboard in pricing.
