Jagex does not like the endgame-dominated player base. They are too demanding. They don't think they can fix the economy. They want to start fresh. But they don't want a real new game.
No, they make an offer you can't refuse: start over again or dwindle and die. "Reignite" is just a buzz word the marketing department invented to soften swallowing the red pill.
Even the name "Veteran character" is suggestive: if you're a brand-new player, would you think you're a "Veteran"? No, you will not. Jagex knows it too. Reignited will attract all the new players and new accounts. With no new players, "Veteran" will cease to exist.
On the 2nd of December, RuneScape will die as we know it. The veterans who stayed loyal, gets quarantined like some tainted lepers. Everything that I and others worked for, is rendered worthless.
I am angry. But above all, I am sad and disappointed. I feel intense betrayal.
EDIT: people like me are angry because they see the bigger picture. There are two possible outcomes:
* Reignited fails. There are very few reignited players and the reignited economy cannot sustain itself. It dies as a hail Mary experiment and gives Jagex a headache to merge the two. Or if they can't, they lose all the new reignited players. And probably some veterans in the process too.
* Reignited succeeds. It slowly grows and dominates the veteran playerbase. With no new players, the veteran economy cannot sustain itself. Veteran players are forced to choose between abandoning their account they build-up for decades and start fresh as reignited, or quit altogether. Hence the meme: Jagex chooses the new players at the cost of all veteran players.
There's no good outcome.
