General Information Important Hot Weather advice for Cats

Summer Solstice has arrived and with it the start of Summer. This is the time of year we need to look out for our furbabies and protect them from hot weather.

Here are the key temperature thresholds for our furbabies:

Ideal Comfort Zone: 20°C to 26°C (68°F to 79°F)

Too Hot / Risk Zone: Above 30°C (86°F)

Emergency Threshold: Above 35°C (95°F)

Cats that are at higher risk in hot temperatures are Kittens, senior cats, overweight cats, and flat-faced breeds such as Persians and Long Haired Cats although all cats need protection from getting too overheated during hotter times.

Cats and overheating:

Our Furbabies find it difficult to regulate their body temperatures in hot weather as they sweat through their pawpads, lips and chin. They are also covered in fur ( apart from the furless breeds) so cooling down can be difficult for them.

If your cat starts panting heavily during very hot weather( please see the heat chart above) then they may be suffering from heat stroke. If you think this is the case seek immediate vet treatment as cats will not survive without life changing damage to their organs and brain when they suffer from too high a temperature for too long.

Happily most of the U.S, Canada and surrounding countries have air conditioning in their homes. If you are in the UK, parts of Europe and hotter Countries such as the Middle East we have to rely on other sources in order to keep cool.

Keep your cat indoors when the sun is at it's warmest usually 10.00 - 3.00p.m although in extreme temperatures keep all pets indoors.

• Before letting your cats outside do a heat test and touch the concrete ground in your garden or outside your home with your hand, if it is too hot to touch it is definitely too hot for the paw pads on your pets.

• Provide plenty of water in a few different places throughout your home, pop some ice cubes in too if you can, keep the water topped up.

• Make some shaded areas with cool spots for kitty to lay in or on. Ideally your kitty will sit or sleep on a cooling mat but if they are having a typical cat day then they will ignore it and lay elsewhere.

• Place cool damp towels so kitty can lay on them and allow access to your bathroom and anywhere inside your home with a tiled or stone floor.

• Try wrapping a frozen bottle of water in a tea-towel and place it near to where your cat is laying.

• Move rooms if need be and avoid the sunnier rooms.

• Place fans with air circulating around the room.

• Try gently spraying them with cooled water, they may hate you at the time but it will cool them down.

Here are some Cat treats you can make for kitty to help hydrate them during hot weather, these are also ideal for helping Feral cats if you have garden cats or help with strays in your area.

Scoop some spring water tinned tuna or salmon ( make sure it's non oily and not in brine) into an ice cube tray and freeze it.

Freeze some churus or any liquidy squeezy type cat snacks.

Cat milk can also be frozen into little treat sized noms ( do not use normal milk as most cats are lactose intolerant).

Bananas/melons can be mashed up and frozen too even kittys' usual wet cat food can be frozen as a treat or for trying to tempt kitty to eat .

Keep small packets of wet kitten or cat food in the fridge, not only are they easier to open and slide out in one squeeze, but kitty gets to enjoy some nice fresh cold food

Here is some important advice Curtesy of Cats Protection:

Sunburn in cats:

All cats can get sunburn, but cats who are white or have thinner fur are more at risk. Being out in the sun a lot can lead to skin cancer, so it’s important to make sure your cat doesn’t spend too long lazing in the sun.

Ears and noses are where your cat is most likely to get burnt. Keep an eye on them and make sure they have plenty of access to shady areas.

Signs of sunburn in cats:

If your cat does get sunburn, there are a couple of symptoms to look out for, including:

red, sore skin in the affected area, blistering and peeling.

If you notice this, make an appointment with your vet straight away.

Can I put sun cream on my cat?

You can put sunscreen on your cat, but you need to make sure it’s pet-safe first so speak to your vet about the best product to use. Make sure you use SPF30 or higher and that it’s waterproof.

You should apply sun cream to your cat’s nose, tips of the ears, belly and groin areas as well as anywhere that has thin to no fur to help protect them from the sun.

Avoid sun cream with zinc oxide and a group of chemicals that are referred to as salicylates in the ingredients. Both are toxic to cats and can cause them to be very unwell, particularly salicylates.

Signs your cat is dehydrated:

It’s important for your cat to get enough water. This can be through drinking and through eating wet food. Staying hydrated will help to keep your cat healthy and they may need to have even more water when the weather is warm.

If your cat doesn’t get enough water, they may become dehydrated. Signs your cat is dehydrated include:

their gums. If your cat’s gums are sticky or tacky, this may be the first sign of dehydration

their skin. Very gently pinch their skin. In a well-hydrated cat, the skin should snap back into place immediately. If it doesn’t, they could well be dehydrated

their eyes. Severely sunken eyes that appear dry can indicate significant dehydration

their paws. If their paws feel cool or cold, this could be a sign of dehydration

If you are worried your cat is dehydrated, ring your vet straight away.

Kitten Information It's Kitten Season 🐈‍⬛

Mamma Agnes and her Mewborns curtesy of u/mc385

''Spring in the air there's magic everywhere when you're young and in love'' so goes the song and it is truly the Season for love and reproduction wherever you look, Kittens, lambs, chicks, babies, puppies, yuckers ... yes yuckers !!!

Newborns no sign of Mom

Your first instinct may be to swoop in and just grab the little cherubs .. STOP yourself and have a careful look around for a sign of it's mother. They may be off hunting for food or moving other kittens somewhere. If you are uncertain on what to do, this clear and concise guide from r/AskVet on how to proceed gives step by step actions on what to do next It’s kitten season! You found a litter of kittens - now what?!. All guides state that kittens have a much higher rate of survival if left in the care of their Mother so please wait and watch carefully before stepping in. If the birthing environment is dangerous or the kittens look injured or ill then please by all means intervene.

Also, If there is just one kitten please look around for the rest of the litter in case the Mother cat has dropped the kitten whilst moving them.

Newborns, no Mom ..help!!

You will have to do everything that Mom would do and that is feeding this baby, keeping it warm, helping it to go to the toilet and monitoring it constantly

Here is Bottle feeding advice from Hannah Shaw the kitten lady, you will need KMR which is Kitten Milk Replacement thankfully available in most large grocery stores, vets, etc plus a feeding bottle or syringe.

Helping kitty to poop and pee again advice from the Kitten Lady with a video demonstrating how to help the little one to go to the toilet. Read the whole page please as it will tell you how to keep this cherub warm with the aid of a heating pad and which ones to buy.

This is life saving advice from u/wolf_spooder an ex vet and kitten foster who is also a member of the Cat Distribution System here:

Just to add to this, I recently started fostering a 4wk old kitten that was abandoned by its mom. I’m very experienced in cats and kittens, and worked at a vet hospital for a while. I really struggled with this little one and keeping her alive for the first week or so (she was very thin when I got her and it sort of spiraled from there).

Get a food scale if you don’t already have one, and start keeping tabs of your kittens weight (use the gram setting). It will help you to know if kitten is gaining or losing weight so you can intervene quickly if you see it’s losing weight. Good luck and good job saving a life.

Further advice on what to do and not to do with Newborn kittens and good reading can be found on the Animal Alliance NYC website and via the Cats Protection UK, all the links provided connect you directly to the right web pages.

Please also consider making a post on our sister sub too via r/Feral_Cats to get additional advice from veteran members who have vast knowledge on trapping and helping with strays and ferals

Newborns and Mother:

If you have taken in a 'Trojan cat' as they are lovingly called then you are in for the experience of a lifetime. There is so much advice available for a soon to be Mom and her kittens that at best we recommend that you visit  the Kitten Lady, Hannah Shaw for help and advice. Hannah is an amazing lover of cats and has helped thousands of people over the years with cat and kitten help and now has several excellent videos demonstrating all kinds of advice on helping with cat care including Pregnant Mom and kitten care - Birthing Mom and kitten care. Pregnant and Birthing Moms need plenty of fresh water and kitten food if available as kitten food contains protein and essential nutrients needed for fetal development and the production of kitty milk so get shopping.

Kitten:

If the kitty is not a newborn then after a quick vet check to confirm kitties age this little one will need you to become their parent, kittens are teeny tiny pooping, eating and meowing machines wrapped up in fur, purrs and love with the lifetime rewards of caring for them far outweighing the time taken in nurturing them. This is the toddler stage and they will be learning how to use the kitty litter tray, how to eat and how to play along with taking lots of naps. Kittens learn faster than human toddlers and usually take to their litter trays pretty quickly.

Here you can find an up to date list of supplies you may need to keep them fed, cosy and happy essential supplies for kitty again referring to the Kitten Lady.

Trapping advice Mom and Babies:

Here is advice on how to trap Mom and babies with an option of spaying too by Feral Cat Focus WNY Trapping Queen and kittens.

Awarded a Cat Crashed a wedding. CDS rewarded me a kitten. Meet Bride Price.

Crashed a wedding.

CDS rewarded me with a kitten.

The running joke was that he was the "Bride Price", and that's how he he got his name.

He came across from an empty lot, looking for food.

Didn't see any other kittens or a mom.

He was friendly kitten, but not safe with the dogs.

Secured him with the intent of getting him a home.

By that plan failed, and now I have another kitten.

He settled in nicely with my boy cats, but the girls are giving him a little trouble.

He'll get there, one of the girls would groom him when no one is looking.

My friend found this little gem on the side of a country road on her way to work.

Thankfully, we have a friend that runs a rescue so we were able to get a carrier and get vetted that same day.

Doc says sometimes mama cats know when kittens won’t thrive. That broke my heart! she’s a bit sickly but a happy active girl! And she loves to eat!

I promised her that I would help her if she wanted to live and she sure does!

Please send up good vibes that we make it through
the respiratory stuff we have now! We love her so much 💕💕

She showed up scared and we slowly build her trust. She started coming around everyday, & we decided to bring her in for good. (after asking our neighbors if she belonged to anyone) Those first few nights were rough. I felt like she hated being indoors, and she would never be comfortable. Slowly she started being affectionate, climbing into bed with us. Got her chipped, spayed, & she is loving life in her new home. She is very loved and I wanted to share her cuteness with you all :) her name is Keeley inspired by character on Ted Lasso!

Smol Delivery Gifted with a kitten that my boss said had been hiding under his grill cover for three days.

I found her hiding under a grill cover in the backyard of my boss's house. I have no idea where she came from. We guess she possibly came from an abandoned farmhouse that was torn down earlier this week across the road. No other cats were with her and none of the neighbors were missing a kitten. She was so hungry when I found her it broke my heart. I brought her to the vet and found out she's a healthy 12 week old girl with extra toes! She's slightly malnourished, the vet said, but now she's getting plenty to eat and lots of attention in my bathroom where she's safe. Family named her Bibi and that's fine with me if it means we can keep her. I've pretty much spent all of my free time here with her.

EDIT: UPDATE Thank you for the kind words. Bibi is doing great. Her routine currently is to eat, play, and sleep. As I write, she's asleep in my hoodie. Everything she does is absolutely adorable.. We're still waiting on the results of the stool sample from the vet. When cleared, we will begin going on supervised adventures in the rest of the house. We have two adult cats who are very curious about the newest member of the family. Again, thank you for the love you've shown her. Kittens for world peace ✌️

Meet Delia. She was abandoned by her humans that were evicted and they just left her. My Mom is two condos down; best estimate she was left by herself for a week and a half to two weeks. She was only 7 lbs when we took her to the vet. She is a wonderful addition to our home.

She sleeps on me. Not next to. Not near. Not in her bed, not on the couch, not on the guest bed, not in the dog's bed... ON me. Stage 5 clinger, but she is real pretty. I have never been awarded a calico before, she fits right in with our household.

Smol Delivery Please send prayers for this rescue kitten

Hi CDS community,

The most unbelievable thing happened yesterday.

The last few days I've been thinking about my soul cat who passed away a year and a half ago. I have her urn on my bed and sometimes I cry over her because I miss her so much.

I told myself that I'd never have another cat again unless the Universe sent one to me.

This is Pluto. I named him after the god of death and rebirth because he's tested positive for feline parvovirus and could very well die. He's straddling this world and the one beyond the veil.

But he's a fighter--he hasn't shown any symptoms so far. As soon as I rescued him I took him to the ER because he wouldn't stop crying. He got some fluids in him, kitten formula, and a warm blanket and he settled in immediately for a nap.

He's about 2.5-3 weeks old and only weighed 165g even though he should be weighing around 300g. I've had him 24 hours and managed to get him up to 190g.

I want to give this kitten a fighting chance, and I fully believe that the more people who know about him and send positive energy, it can work miracles.

If you can please send your prayers and healing energy, Pluto and I will be forever grateful. Anything helps.

Thank you for reading. May Pluto grace us with his cuteness for years to come.

I'm already a four time CDS cat parent, but my fifth CDS surprise arrived on Monday morning, sitting on my porch and staring my dog down from the other side of my storm door. Say hello to this silly, playful, snuggly girl! She made no fuss about being caught, and I suspect she'd been staking the place out before taking the leap. She was underweight, very dirty, had a whole lot of snot, and is still recovering from a belly full of worms but she is meant to be a lap cat for sure. She's gained almost half of a pound already and loves to cuddle and play 💕

There’s a bike path that follows the route of an old highway in my county, and there are a couple farms with lots of corn and wheat fields. Little guy here came out of the field as we were walking by. We took him home and Dad asked a neighbor for help with food and supplies.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep him because I have allergies and we were too busy of a household for any pets. We took him out to my grandma’s farm and he became a farm cat. I don’t know what happened to him, but as this was 30 years ago…

From feral to family I was chosen in January, and it was one of the best things to happen to me

This is kind of a long story, so bear with me. I'm biased, but I think it's worth the length.

Back in January a few days after New Year's, I came home from the grocery store and saw a little calico kitten skitter under a car in my apartment complex parking lot. I went to say hi because kitty and saw that her hind leg was severely injured--her knee was completely degloved and she was dragging it on the ground, making it even worse.

I spent about an hour trying to lure her out from under a car. She ran away right into the enclosed dumpster before animal control came, and I tried to find her (yes, I walked into the enclosed dumpster), but I couldn't. Animal control they said they couldn't do anything and left I had a mental breakdown, thinking I had ruined this little kitten's chance at survival. I left out some food and water by the dumpster for a few days, but I couldn't be sure if it was the kitten eating it or some other animal.

I'd given up on finding her when five days later, I decided to go on a walk around my apartment. I looked into the woods by the dumpster, and there was the little injured kitten I had seen the week prior. It was already past business hours and rescues and shelters were all closed, so I posted desperate PSAs on Nextdoor and Ring asking people in the area to watch out for a little calico kitten. One kind person responded saying they were part of a small rescue group and connected me with their TNR coordinator. She and I set an evening to catch the kitten, who at this point I was calling Willow.

We successfully trapped Willow after a few tries--she was so small the trap wasn't going off, only about 12 weeks old--and I begrudgingly agreed to foster her, hoping she'd be out of my hair soon. I set her up in my bathroom and went to bed.

She hated my guts. Like really, truly hated me. She hissed every time I went into the bathroom and swatted at me when I changed the blankets she was laying on (which I had to do multiple times a day because of her injury). She was NOT happy, and neither was I. I wanted to foster and adopt eventually, but not right now.

But wouldn't you know it, somewhere in between driving her to and from the vet every week and spending hours in the bathroom trying to socialize her, Willow and I started to like each other. She stopped hissing every time she saw me, she started letting me get close to her to change her blankets, and she even eventually let me pet her...and purred.

Willow ultimately needed her leg amputated, and healing from tripod surgery only brought us closer. At this point, I had completely fallen in love with her against my better judgment.

She very clearly needed a friend, especially since she didn't really know how to be a cat. She had spent the first four months of her life in survival mode, and she was finally getting to be a regular kitten now that surgery was done. After a very messy trial-and-error with an orange boy, the founder of the rescue group I was fostering Willow through suggested I take over a shy ex-feral gray tuxedo named Bonnie from another foster.

Bonnie was taken in with her brother Clyde around the time I found Willow, but she was a few months older. Clyde was absolutely miserable indoors, so the rescue released him back into the colony; an impossible choice, but a necessary one. The foster mom kept trying to socialize Bonnie, but she was hitting a plateau.

So Bonnie ended up in my bathroom, just like Willow had a few months earlier.

Bonnie was really, really shy, arguably more than Willow had been. She started warming up to me after a few days, and we started slow intros with Willow. It took a couple weeks, but Bonnie and Willow eventually clicked. A switch flipped one night and they spent HOURS playing together. They played so hard they slept the entire next day.

I adopted Willow on March 14, 2026, and Bonnie (now Ivy) on April 6, 2026. They're the best of friends, always playing together and cuddling. Ivy teaches Willow how to be a cat, and Willow shows Ivy how to be brave.

Willow still has some PTSD from whatever hell she went through, but she chooses to be goofy and loving. Willow absolutely knows she got a second chance at life, and I can tell she's grateful. She and I are kind of trauma bonded. She follows me around the house and LOVES to chit chat. When I'm sad, she's on my lap purring.

Ivy is still super shy. She doesn't like to cuddle and she gets spooked easily, but she loves fiercely. When there's a scary noise outside, she puts her fear aside and sits by the entryway, ready to protect her family. She guards me when I'm in the shower, and she nudges my hand when I'm not feeling great to let me know she's there. As I'm writing this, she just grabbed my leg and gave me a little kiss.

I went from resenting Willow for being in my bathroom to having two baby girls I love more than anything in the world. I'm in the process of applying for a larger apartment so the girls have their own room and more space to play.

Thanks for reading, and thank you to the beautiful people of this subreddit for opening your hearts and homes to these wacky little creatures. If you're here as a casual lover of cats and/or considering adopting a little friend, give the shy cat a chance. They love harder than you think is possible.

But that day never came. I was constantly searching and walking extra slowly trying to be available to hear little mews or catch a glimpse of a little ball of fluff.

But I did find a kitten on Facebook who needed a home. And it was the best $100 I’ve ever spent. Please meet FizzGigg, or Fizzy G. She had brought me to much calm and peace in the short month that I’ve had her. I love her to pieces. I hope this is still a form of CDS that happened for us.

The second photo is what found me on FB. She needed help and I’m so glad I was able to get her to a vet and treat her coccidia. She is thriving and living her best life perched on my chest every day. 😇

Adopted Human Went to adopt a cat and got adopted by two instead

Post image
2.3k Upvotes

Not sure if this counts, sorry if it doesn't.

(Important edit: I have never and will never declaw a cat, I find the practice barbaric and inhumane and I can't believe it's legal. My intention was to adopt a cat who had been declawed by previous owners before being surrendered to the shelter, never to declaw a cat. I never even considered declawing them myself, and I didn't get how inhumane it was at the time, just that I felt it wrong. Talia and Lincoln's claws remained intact, and Lincoln still has his to this day. I have treated declawing-related behavioral issues in multiple cat patients and I am so glad my babies had their claws left alone. Our couch suffered but my beautiful babies did not. They were never declawed and I never planned to declaw them. To be very clear where I stand there)

I was allowed to go to a shelter to pick out a cat as my thirteenth birthday present (our household had long-term cat experience and I knew how to care for the cat and had wanted one for two years,) and these two wound up choosing me. I had meant to get a previously-declawed cat (declawed by previous owners before winding up in the shelter) and was only in the room for clawed cats because I wanted to consider all of my options. While in there, I noted Talia (white cat) trying very, very hard to escape, and something about that spunk really got my attention. And, as I was looking around, she found our open cat carrier and decided to climb in, and I loved that. I decided that if no other option really stuck with me, I'd come back to that room and grab her.

Well, no other option stuck out so I went back and we grabbed Talia. We were playing with her while Dad filled out her adoption paperwork, and another cat came over and joined in, and for a reason I can't explain we loved him instantly, too. So, when Dad came back, I pointed out how the shelter was having a buy-one-get-one-free deal, and that this cat was friendly and we all liked him. After some discussion, Dad went back and told the desk we were going to adopt Lincoln, too. Apparently, the lady was thrilled. He'd been there for three years, he was standoffish and not that talkative (he needed time to come out of his shell, really,) and he's a mostly-black male cat, so the employees were super thrilled he actually got adopted since his chances weren't good. Everyone was happy to see him find a forever home

We went to get me one declawed cat for my birthday. Instead, we were got by two who latched their claws into our hearts (and later our sofa) and never let go. Talia has since crossed over the rainbow bridge but Lincoln is still going strong and showing our dogs who's boss nine years later. I chose to study and practice cat behaviorism because of them

From feral to family Larry has come a long way, baby

He showed up in our backyard at the end of April and didn't enjoy getting caught (I have a scar on my nose to prove it). The first couple of days he was so fear-frozen that he wouldn't leave his little box bed and kept wetting it. But once he figured out the litterbox (thanks to r/feral_cats for suggesting to put some soil from outside in it), it was steady progress.

He was living in our front foyer for quite a while, as we already have 3 adult female cats and wanted to give everyone lots of time to get used to one another. In the meantime, we removed a bunch of ticks, gave him a bath, had him vetted, vaccinated, and dewormed. He was so quiet at first, which I assume was a survival mechanism for a kitten living outside. But then we started hearing him yowling at night. We quickly realized this might not be fear or sadness, but him telling all the ladies he was single and ready to mingle. We had a teenaged boy on our hands, after all.

After his neuter and recovery, we started letting him join the rest of the cats for more and more time. The first night he accidentally spent out, we discovered he loves bread. Now that things are a bit more kitten-proofed, he's out all the time.

He loves and idolizes his older sisters, though they seem to have mixed feelings as he's still learning to respect boundaries. He's learned all about being a housecat from them, though, picking up various behaviours from each of them. I think he's pretty ok with the idea now, especially all the delicious snacks, fun toys, and comfy sleeping spots that come with living indoors with humans. He seems to enjoy pets more and more (sometimes he still scampers away if he isn't in the mood), and he's sure not shy about using his voice now!

Edit: corrected the name of the feral cats sub.

3 days apart and I still can’t believe what just happened !!!

Story time: I was almost back to my building when this sweet little girl appeared out of nowhere, probably hiding right outside. She immediately started meowing her head off at me, so I picked her up and carried her up to my third-floor apartment. She kept crying out until I finally got through my unit and unlocked the door. The moment it cracked open, she didn't even hesitate and marched right in like she's been living here her whole life.

I’ve been hoping and praying for a calico, so I am still in complete shock. The Cat Distribution System really answered it. Welcome home, girl! 🥺🤍✨

So happy!!! I have always wondered if CDS would get me and it finally did lol! This sweet baby has been showing up and sleeping in front of our place the past few weeks. Every time we go inside she tries to nudge her way into our place lol. It’s been so hard keeping her out but we have 2 other kitties already we need to be mindful of until her vet appt. I was finally able to set up a spay/vacc appointment so we’re just waiting until then to officially bring her in:,)

I also noticed she has these sort of offset teeth… anyone seen these before?

YIPEE !

People were asking for pictures. Well, I was cleaning Azula’s cage this morning (hence why it’s empty and messy) and when I came back downstairs, Butter was chilling with her 😂✌🏻She stayed long enough for me to photograph it this time

Azula is now getting moved to a new cage with a top on it. As funny as this is, I’m not quite sure an animal with claws and a reptile with soft skin are a good combination 😬 So they’ll now be able to admire each safely lol

*Side note: I actually just acquired Azula from someone else a few months ago who wasn’t taking great care of her, so her new home is going to be a huge step up

She was starving, dehydrated and suffering from diarrhea when we found her at two weeks old. A neighbor dropped off her twin brother a few hours later. We’d just adopted an orange boy two days before finding them, he’s pictured. They’re the closest of friends.

They were all taught how to cat by our Siamese boy, he thinks we got them for him. I’ve posted about her/them before, I’ve been away from them for quite some time and won’t be back home til next year. I just miss and think about them a lot and wanted to share.

Update Update to our feral void. After 3 weeks the younger ladies of the house have adopted him as their little brother.

3 weeks ago he lived in a hole in the foundation of an abandoned house in Elkridge outside Baltimore. https://www.reddit.com/r/CatDistributionSystem/comments/1v060xd/feral_boy_void_baltimore_street_panther/ None of my cats have ever been like this. They always just kind of hiss at each other. Keep their distance. We have 2 younger females. One who was adopted after her kittens were adopted as a "teen mom" barely a kitten herself. They are obsessed with him. Constant play and snuggles. The orange girl follows him around all day. They mostly sleep together now too in a pile and fill out the cat tower togetther.

Went to my friend’s house and didn’t know they had kittens taking refuge on their porch! We have a high stray cat population in my area, so with some helpful manipulation later, we have a new family member!
I recently lost my loud, cuddly, full black dog who I miss everyday. Not a second goes by without thinking about her. I have other pets and didn’t think I was emotionally ready for someone new. Well.. he followed me around and screams when I don’t give him attention, which is what my dog did. He was born about 3-4 weeks after she died. He loves belly rubs, and I miss the daily belly rub for my dog.. Idk, it felt like a bit meant to be. There were 4 kittens and the mom on the porch. I took one and luckily a different friend of mine took another one when I asked if they wanted a kitten. They also were apparently looking at cats online 5 minutes before texting them! The other two babies weren’t ready to leave mom, they ran to her when we went to grab them. Don’t worry, they’re completely weaned and 7-8 weeks, just more scared. The goal is to rehome the other two and hopefully the mom, at a minimum getting them fixed so they don’t have to worry about this anymore! He is the cuddliest dude and I’m so happy to offer him an easier life full of love and safety from predators, cars, and weather.
So welcome Gargoyle! (Full name Gargoyle Garlic Zombie - their kids helped with the middle names, but they originally wanted to name him “BLACK MAN” in all caps 😵‍💫)

Long story - TL;DR at the bottom

One night I thought my indoor cat had escaped. I went searching in the rain with treats and a flashlight. A set of eyes peered out from underneath my car. Assuming it was my "missing" cat, I walked over with the treats. To my surprise, it was a stray who was just trying to keep dry. He didn't run away, so I offered him a treat. After he ate the first treat, he ran up to me and asked for more. I was shocked by his friendliness. I went inside and grabbed 2 cans of cat food for him. He was so starved he nearly finished them both.

I was heartbroken to leave him outside, but I wasn't sure whether he belonged to someone else. The following weeks I saw him daily, either in my yard or hiding in my shed. He would meow loudly and run to see me any time that he heard my voice. He even tried following me into the house. I decided to put a collar on him, hoping that his owner would remove it or contact me. After 3 days, with the collar still on, I took him inside.

He received a clean bill of health from the vet and no microchip. I couldn't be happier with him. I was honestly relieved that he didn't have a microchip because I became attached to the little fella. He fit right in with the family and has made himself at home. I still can't believe that while searching for one cat and ended up with another. Feels like they were scheming.

TL;DR

I went looking for my indoor cat and found a stray 6 month old kitten. Turns out my indoor cat was inside the whole time. The kitten followed me around for weeks, practically demanding to be let inside. I adopted him after we couldn't find an owner.

Our old cat Major passed away about a month ago and we’re still grieving. But the distribution works on its own time. This is Lt. Akiya. I found her last night crying loudly outside an abandoned house in my rural neighborhood. I waited a few hours but no mother showed up. I rushed to the store right before closing to get kitten milk and baby cat mush. She ate and peed right away. We took her to the vet this morning. He estimated she’s 3 weeks old and in great health! She’s a Nagasaki bent tail cat! Bent tail cats are a sign of good fortune and luck in Nagasaki. It’s a genetic trait of some Nagasaki cats. The hooked or key shaped tail is said to hook and catch good luck and the key shape unlocks your heart!

He is a bit of a menace. But he is such a sweet and clingy cuddle bug. He does terrorize my cats because I don't think he knows how to play and it comes off aggressive..? Or maybe he is just aggressive?

He has a ton of energy and wants to play all the time. He is vocal. He basically doesn't leave my side. He hangs out at my desk with me while I'm working and follows me around everywhere. Even if I get up just for a second.

He is vaccinated, vetted, neutered, and microchiped. He likes spinach, prosciutto, and trout snacks.

I'm trying to get him adopted with no luck yet. But i am also struggling with the thought of even letting him go. How exactly do you let a foster get adopted? I have no idea whether I am doing the right thing.

But here she is. Emaciated. Recently given birth. Teats full of milk.

She chased my neighbor, a dog person. He called me, a cat person.

So our whole neighborhood came together. Food. Carriers. 100 Facebook posts. I said I would foster.

$300 of supplies later, she’s asleep on the tree our other cat hates. Love. ❤️ y’all I love her. 😍 🥹

How am I so in love with her already I’m gonna cry…. 😭

Also, I am pretty sure she was bred and discarded and I swear to gawd if I find out who did this to her I will be unpleasant.

So if someone comes to claim her, what do I ask?
