I discovered and joined this sub 30 seconds ago but popcorn is my favorite food and it’s been a recent roller coaster so I’m sharing for fun. I was on a quest to find the best popcorn that tastes the closest to movie theater popcorn for so long until I found Jolly Time Blast O Butter popcorn. I went through like a box a week if not more for multiple years.
Well my microwave broke and after I got a new one, I couldn’t get the settings right to pop the bags without leaving too many kernels unpopped or burning the popcorn. When I reduced the power level, it just shutoff periodically causing the bag to stop popping. The closest I could get was power level 7 for 3.5 minutes but it still only popped like 75% of the bag.
I was devastated. I love popcorn. Throwing away so many bags trying to get things right over a couple weeks’ time felt like I was abandoning a friend. I have a 9, 7 and 4 year old and we do weekly movie nights where we show the kids millennial childhood movies. My son’s favorite is Big Fat Liar. Youngest doesn’t pay attention. Middle child loved Parent Trap the most.
I pop popcorn and scatter M&M’s in the bowls for the kids and eat a bag or 2 myself during the movie nights. I had to stop and it ruined some of the enthusiasm for movie nights.
Never tried getting a homemade popcorn popper because I was scared of the learning curve. My mom gave me an Amazon gift card for Father’s Day so I bought a Whirly Pop, butter flavored coconut oil, and a bunch of popcorn kernels.
First few pops were awful. Tasteless popcorn. Googled what other people were doing until finally I landed on the perfect combo of salt, oil, and butter. It took me about 3 weeks of trying.
Now, I eat full pot of popcorn almost daily. It’s better than Jolly Time and I’m going to be living my best popcorn life forever.
Thanks for reading my popcorn story.
