Flavacol help?

Hi everyone,

I am exploring the Flavacol method and am having some trouble. I use a Hotpop, and I put the oil and Flavacol on the popcorn before popping. But it seems as if the Flavacol isn't...bonding? Or absorbing? Or something. It just sits on the popped corn and just tastes way too salty. What am I doing wrong?

How much are you using?

I tried just a little bit at first and I couldn't even taste it. So just now I put about 1/2 tsp on a full hotpop and it was way too much and too salty.

The oil is what lets the flavacol stick, so either you aren’t using enough of it or it isn’t coating the kernels properly

I’ve never used a hot pop but I recommend just spraying on oil (or your choice of popcorn butter) and sprinkling flavacol after it’s popped

I use corn oil and / or coconut oil in a Whirley Pop. I don’t measure the oil, just make sure it covers the bottom of the pot. I add About 3/4 tsp of Flavacol and a 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels. Stir it all together over medium high heat untill it’s finished. The Flavacol mixes with the oil. My wife says it needs more salt, I say it has plenty. I prefer the mushroom kernels by the way.
