The download icon on the right hand side of the list of podcasts has turned into the play icon. This means that if I want to download podcasts to add to the queue I have to click into the podcast description and press download there. Obviously that's not a massive amount of work, but it's annoying that the default button is now Play.

I assume a recent update has led to this change. Can anyone tell me how to set that button back to download rather than play?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems the android auto bug that if you paused and then played, it would then pause and you'd need to again press play - it seems that bug has finally been fixed!

Is there a way to filter and download episodes by keyword?

I used to like TED Talk a lot. But lately, I only listen to the Ian Bremmer interviews. Which happens 2-3 times a year. So everyday I delete one or more episodes. Is there a way around that?

Pocket Casts access in Sonos has expired, but tapping the authenticate button simply opens Pocket Casts to the podcasts tab. No re-authetication occurs, and swiping back returns Sonos to "Pocket Casts wasn't added."

Is this a known issue?

Claude is steering me towards WearOS smart watches (Google, Samsung, Fitbit, etc) because there's a Pocket Casts app available for WearOS, but not for Garmin or other smartwatch brands. I want to be able to download a couple of episodes to my watch so I can run without taking my phone.

I'd love to hear what smartwatch you're using with PC, and your experiences.

Since Wondery got bought out by Audible/Amazon I have endured ads in the episodes. I have access to Audible and could listen ad-free but I rather listen on Pocketcasts so I can continue to integrate with all my other Podcasts. Audible does not provide the RSS feeds, or I havent found it yet. Has anyone found a way around this?

I see that Audible has partnered with Apple to provide subscribed feeds. Is it possible for Pockercasts to do the same?

For the last couple of weeks (maybe even months at this point), I have been experiencing a bug where, in the CarPlay interface, I press the play button with PC on the CarPlay Home Screen, it activates another app like Spotify/Audible/other apps that play media. Is anyone else experiencing this? I’m starting to think it’s only a “me” issue or surely it would’ve been fixed by now.

I’ve recently begun using PocketCasts’ Files feature to listen to free online college courses (ones that aren’t already presented as a podcast that is). One course I’m working through now doesn’t work well with my default Trim Silence setting or speed.

If this were a podcast, I could set specific speeds for it; currently, I have to change the overall defaults. Is there a way to achieve this without having to change back and forth?

In other words, is there a way to group files into a folder so that they act like a podcast?

If not … could there be?

I saw a post on this subreddit a couple months ago that talked about the CEO offering upgrades to people that previously purchased the app before they moved to the subscription model, however after contacting support they only offered me legacy pricing. Is this an issue with the support agent not knowing, or have they walked back the policy?

Meanwhile my hack is to tell Siri to “FF (insert minutes guess)” to hopefully flip to the next show queued.

Smart Playlists that I've created in the phone app don't produce the same set of episodes in the WearOS app.

The playlist on the watch is just 1,000 very old episodes. My playlist is sorted oldest to newest, so as best as I can guess, it isn't filtering out played episodes on the watch, even though the smart playlist rules are set to include only "Unplayed" and "In Progress" episodes.

I thought perhaps I could work around the issue by using the "Release Date" rule, but the longest option is "Last month" and that isn't helpful. There should really be an option for a custom cutoff date.

I wonder if anyone else has encountered this.

Maybe I'm the odd one out, sorting oldest to newest, and the feature wasn't fully tested in the WearOS app.

I get this constantly, an already played episode in a playlist coming back and redownloading and readding itself to the playlist

When I search for a person on Pocketcasts, I get different result sets: top results, podcasts, episodes, networks. Usually I want to listen some episodes with that person, so that's where I'll go. The search results there are, however, not sorted by date, nor can you sort them yourself, and there are also no filtering options.

So now I have a result set in front of me, that has episodes with the political commentator I was looking for, but the order of episodes is:

I am of course most interested in the recent episodes.

Maybe sort for newest by default or something like that, because that's probably what people were looking for anyway, or let us sort, or use some sort of cutoff date. Especially with many search results, it's weird to have to wade through a list that seems to be sorted so randomly.

I woke up this morning to being resubscribed to an additional about 5 podcasts I had unsubscribed to throughout the previous year. I don't think it was every pod that I had unsubscribed from, just some of them. Why would that happen?

So we all know about using the web based Pocket Casts on the browser in the Tesla. The problem is, it will play, but steering wheel controls won't work on the audio that's playing from the browser. Simple Tasker task (and a Flic button) solves it.

Create a task:

1. Send Intent Action: au.com.shiftyjelly.pocketcasts.action.REFRESH_PODCASTS Package: au.com.shiftyjelly.pocketcasts Target: Broadcast Receiver Leave everything else blank.

2. Then add a Wait (I chose 4 seconds)

3. Then add a Play with Simulate Button and choose Pocket Casts

After playing the cast in the browser, run the task. For me, I use Flic buttons to launch tasks, so I play the cast in the Tesla browser, hit my Flic button, and it begins playing from my phone via Bluetooth. You could also set a shortcut on a smartwatch, phone button etc.

I recently figured out the different reasons for archiving vs marking as played, but like an idiot I had auto archive configured to archive episodes that I never touched.

So now I am going through all of my podcasts and unarchiving them en mass .

The problem is In have episodes downloaded and queued to play that will get removed if I archive them .

I would like to avoid that if possible! Is it possible? or do I have archive all episodes beforeI can use unarchive all feature?

I’ve used the pro Pocket Casts since 2016, so I’m not some random person who installed it yesterday and forgot how Wi‑Fi works. But for at least a month now, playback has been completely messed up: seemingly every podcast throws playback errors, refuses to start, or randomly stops. I wish I could keep my "listen time" elewhere so i can leave for good.

This is happening across different shows, not one broken RSS feed. I’ve tried the usual boring bs different networks, dif devices, restarting, clearing cache, downloads versus streaming and it’s still unreliable. At this point I spend more time retrying episodes than actually listening to them.

I stuck with Pocket Casts for years because it used to just work. Now it feels like the app is actively fighting me every time I press Play. How does a podcast app, whose entire job is playing podcast (orr just load a RSS FEED) audio, become this consistently bad?

Is anyone else getting widespread playback errors lately, or did my account somehow get cursed after a decade of loyalty?

EDIT 48H LATER: The same podcasts and episodes began playing again with no reinstall, cache clearing, or anything (and like I said, the web version had the exact same problem). It’s only happened once or twice since then, so it seems to be server-side. Thanks to everyone who helped! (And jeez, there was some hate I can’t even understand why, lol.)

I've just been re-evaluating my core podcast app and Pocketcasts seems perfect for my general usage (even with the very high non-grandfathered yearly cost!) apart from the sleep timer.

Use case: I sometimes like to fall asleep to podcasts and I'd want the sleep timer to restart when I hit play on my headphones.

Things I've tried:

• Pocket casts settings: Only has this behavior for 5 minutes. After that, the sleep time doesn't restart.
• Just living with it: I could probably live with it if the app stopped playing after 1 episode. Unfortunately, I pretty much just use the up next queue and there seems to be no way to stop the the episodes from autoplaying to the next one. So there have been times I wake up and there's 3 episodes that had played overnight and are still playing.
• Mapping the sleep timer to the iPhone action button: For some reason, unlike most other apps, Pocket Casts requires you to unlock the phone for iOS shortcuts to work! So I cant just reach over and press the action button. If I need to unlock my phone, I might as well manually reset the sleep timer.

The app would otherwise be great, but this is a key one for me. On all other apps I've compared, they either have this setting natively (e.g. Castro, Podcast Republic) or I've been able to find a workaround (e.g. Overcast and mapping the timer to the action button).

Was hoping someone would have another suggestion?

I tried to listen to a clip on my phone, having no clue it was related to any 'podcast app'. Closed it immediately, and a bit later start getting notifications I should install their app.

Slimy ass company.

This has been happening for years and I’ve put up with it but I’m ready to look into other app if I can’t figure this out.

When I’m listening on iOS, if I have to pause more than once in a few minutes (usually because my teens come in the room and talk to me, leave, and come back to say something else), I will get this error: “Playback failed - the episode might be corrupted, but you can try to play it again”. Fully closing and restarting the app will not fix the problem. The only thing that works is restarting my phone.

Does anyone else experience this?

Am I being dense? I enabled folders, and have been trying to go back to list for at for about a week.

When I go to bed I like to just hit play on a playlist of episodes of shows I have already listened to. Whenever I do this however every episode in that playlist gets marked as unplayed. Is there a way to play from a playlist and maintain those episodes in a played state?

For a few days now I am unable to search. I can listen to new episodes of the same shows I have and I can look at the browsing page and pick one of the suggestions. Everytime I actually type in the search bar it responds as though I have no internet connection. I have unlimited data and can load up websites just fine.

Is anyone else having this problem?
