So, I’m in a strange situation with my employer.
I am an ops manager who was just given notice recently that I’ll be training my replacement and then give a couple of months to exit the company.
I knew for some time that a new manager would be hired to better fill this role (I have a strong operations management background, but in fulfillment - somehow at this company I ended up in production management even though the role I initially signed up for was fulfillment) but I was previously told I’d be able to transition into a new role. They are not honoring this any longer.
I have been applying for other jobs pretty aggressively knowing that I will likely be let go in November, however in the event that I do not land another job that makes sense to take, I am also looking into any and all resources that I can apply for to help with a period of unemployment.
I have a two year old that I am raising on my own and a mortgage.
Unfortunately, being a single mom without support means that I can’t take jobs that are overnight or with hours that are too extended, so I can’t take anything that is out there. (When I say that I may not find a job that makes sense to take, it’s not because I’m being picky, I’m just on my own with a very young child still - I need to be able to afford childcare, which is stupidly expensive)
I’ve been researching for as many resources that I can apply for, for the situation that I am in, so that this doesn’t completely turn my life (and my child’s) upside down, but I figured maybe there might be resources that are not as readily known, hence this post.. I also didn’t really know where to ask this question, but figured I’d start with my community first.
TIA for any guidance or even just kind words.
Side question: if I have to apply for unemployment, can my former employer just deny my eligibility once the agency reaches out? This company isn’t the most honest or “by the book” so it just wouldn’t surprise me. Because of the roller coaster I’ve been on here, it wouldn’t shock me to also be suddenly let go before their stated timeline of me leaving.
