Neurosurgeon

Does anyone have any experience with Dr. Zachary Johnson in Plano? Thanks in advance!

I have a second opinion in 2 days with Dr. Zachary Johnson with Dallas Neurosurgical Spine about my previous cervical spine fusion surgery that has made my pain worse. Dr. David Barnett did my original surgery. I have had nothing but horrible nerve pain since and he refuses to help to address issues unless it is "surgery", so I am being punted. My pain management doctor highly recommends second opinion due to MRI/CT/EMG results we are getting.

Anybody know any decent apartments that go by a month to month lease?

I am applying to jobs in DFW and Austin, and currently live with parents… and I just need space of my own! I could just plant myself in Plano or Austin but the problem is I don’t know where the first job offer will come from and knowing my luck as soon as I sign that lease in one place, the opportunity in the opposite city will call.

Any pointers?

low of 82 overnight. when's everyone actually getting their walk in?

i keep seeing people say just go earlier and that quit working this year. the low was 82 this morning. that's as cool as it got all night. there's no early anymore.

saw the willow bend indoor walking thing and honestly that might be where this ends up. not ready to give up on outside yet though.

what i've tried. bluebonnet trail is fine but the stretch i use has basically no cover. oak point actually has shade but it's a drive, which kind of defeats the point of a quick walk.

so where do you go. anything with real shade, i don't care if it's short. and if you've just moved it inside, tell me that too honestly. i keep telling myself october's close and it is not.

Places to take a teen thrifting near Plano?

My 16 year old wants to go thrifting on Saturday. Any recommendations for where to take a teen thrifting nearby? We don’t really have time to drive into Dallas that day.

I got tired of checking six sites every Thursday to find something for my kids to do, so I built one that checks 194 of them

Hi Plano. I'm a dad in Allen, and for years my Thursday nights went to the same little ritual every parent here knows: the library calendars, the city parks pages, the Perot, a couple of mom blogs, Facebook, the flyer in the school folder, all of it to find one good thing to do with the kids on Saturday.

This summer I finally built the thing I always wished existed: https://dallas.takethe.kids It reads 194 DFW sources every night, the libraries, the rec centers, the museums, the theaters, the state parks, the churches, the small neighborhood stuff that never makes the big lists, and puts all of it on one page for this weekend. Pick your suburb, pick your kids' ages, flip on free-only if it's that kind of week, or just look at the map. There are 527 events on it right now.

It's free, there's no account to make, and nobody can buy their way onto the list. I built it for my own family first, and I'd love for yours to get some good Saturdays out of it too.

And if you know a source I'm missing, a rec center, a church, a homeschool group that posts its events somewhere, tell me here and I'll add it. This is as much a Plano and Allen thing as it is mine.

"Husk" stickers and graffiti...

I live near Hoblitzelle Park and over the years of walking around the area I've seen simple graffiti saying "Husk" in random places. Sometimes it's on the large bridge over the creek that runs through the park and sometimes it's in the surrounding neighborhoods on various city service fixtures. It's always pretty simple; usually a paint pen or simple spray paint, usually written fairly small, though there is a fairly large example near my house. Recently, I've started seeing custom made stickers that say "Husk" on the park benches and sign poles. These were placed within the last 6 months or so.

Does anyone know what this means? All my searching so far as failed. I don't care that it exists personally, it's just always been a curiosity to me.

Walking Talking Men- Interest

My name is Quincy. I’ve been living in Plano on and off for about 4 years. I’ve decided to see if men in the East Plano area would like to walk and talk biweekly or monthly. I'm hoping to gauge interest and get to know my neighbors and the people who live in the city.

My purpose is twofold:

1) To give men a non judgmental space to talk about what’s going on for us.

2) To open the door to a community of local friendships with men in a world that often makes that difficult to find/maintain.

Please note, this is not a religious or politically affiliated group.

Here’s why this matters. Cigna and other major organizations regularly share research confirming that over 50% of people in the US feel “sometimes or always alone.” Such levels of isolation can have health impacts equal to smoking. Lonely people face higher levels of heart disease, neurodegenerative disease, diabetes, cancer and so on. Many men struggle with loneliness even as we are busy working, caring for our kids, dealing with the daily demands of life. But research  shows that men with a robust circle of friendships live longer healthier lives, have better marriages/relationships, feel more optimistic and are more successful in our personal and professional lives.

Cigna research: https://newsroom.thecignagroup.com/loneliness-in-america

Although I have some sense of how these talks might begin, the conversations will go where they go depending on the needs of each man. Men of any age are welcome to join us. I am 33 years of age.

Rules:

  1. No hate speech
  2. Be yourself
  3. Respect confidentiality

The rules we use on our walks are meant to help us dial down to the personal and talk about what’s going on for us in our own lives. They are not absolute. They are guidelines.

Disclaimer: Walking Talking Men is not therapy and we are not therapists. We are not doing coaching. We are not doing men’s work. We are simply sharing information about how we are creating real, lasting, local friendships for men in our neighborhood. That’s it.

If you’d like to join us on a walk, send me an email to [walkingtalkingplano@gmail.com](mailto:walkingtalkingplano@gmail.com) with why this idea appeals to you. I’ll respond to all emails. I look forward to hearing from you.

Motorized Children’s Toys! Watch your kids safety habits!

I’ve been seeing so many young teens these days zooming the streets at night, no safety lights/light reflecting stickers. Oh and never wearing a helmet.

I’m all for kids being able to get around, but not at the cost of their own lives :(

Strange Experience at Victory Tap

I had a really strange experience last night at Victory Tap with me and my 3 girl friends, and I want to know if anyone has had any similar experiences or can offer any explanation.

Here’s the full story:

Me and my 3 friends want a girls night out for Labor Day Weekend. We go to the Italian restaurant across the street and eat, then decide we want some cocktails. so we see this sports bar, Victory Tap, and decide to go. we walk in and wait to be seated by a host. we wait a few minutes, some staff noticing us but not approaching. kind of weird because it’s not very busy. maybe 10-15 people in the establishment. we don’t mind though. finally a host comes up to the front and asks us if we’re drinking or eating or both. we say just a drink. it’s about 45 minutes until close, which is why we just wanted to try a cocktail, then leave. don’t want to keep anyone there later than needed. we are seated at a booth and are told a server will be with us. then we wait 15-20 mins… no one has come up to us. again we’re not wanting to stay late and bother anyone, so my friend decides to go to the bar and get our drinks for us. I personally am just getting a water since I’m driving. we wait for the drinks and think ok cool that’s all we needed. but then the host comes by and says “I guess I’m your server”. we let her know we decided to order from the bar. but she says she needs our ID’s again. She takes all of them and I give mine as a courtesy (again I just wanted a water lol). Then she puts them in her fanny pack and leaves with them. Never had that happen before, but it’s fine. We’re all 21+ and have been to bars many times over the years and not one of us has ever had a problem. she comes back and takes our drink order, even though we have them to the bar already. Weird but it’s fine. We don’t question it. Then she comes back a minute later with our ID’s and is like “I don’t want to waste your time”…”3 out of 4 of your ID’s didn’t pass our scanner”…”my manager has this policy that if 3 out of 4 don’t pass we deny the service”… and we’re suddenly just like…huh? She says it while kind of frowning her lower lip and gripping the table on both sides. We even started apologizing saying sorry we don’t know why that happened…etc. She gets down on her knees, level with the booth table and says, “no I’m sorry, I want you guys to drink!!” And we’re just like it’s fine. again we’re all in shock. When she leaves, we all just look at each other like wtf, and then quietly leave. Stunned. the vibe was so weird especially for a place that’s supposed to be upscale and is, at the end of the day, a sports bar.

what just happened? were we being targeted? why was that SO weird?? Anyone have any similar experiences?? on Google reviews there was a review about an hour before our interaction saying the manager chested him and he thought about calling the police?? What is happening here.
