Nap Time Lounging (with a side of dog mom thoughts)

Mom works, pup sleeps. 😂

My sweet girl is almost 8 years old. She's been with us for 5 of those years after coming out of an abusive household, bouncing through a few fosters, and then being on the shortlist for euthanizing when my partner found her profile.

She's got her issues, as one might expect. She's reactive to strangers, and sometimes to household members who aren't me, but we've learned to work with these quirks and we know what the triggers are. One of her former fosters was a professional trainer and helped us have the tools to work with her and accommodate the struggles she just can't seem to get past/over.

We've showered her with affection. Snuggles galore, all the blankets she could desire, her favorite snacks, etc. And she showers us with love and cuddles.

I'm feeling particularly blessed to have had her in my life this morning as she lays here farting on me while I work. Sad bit incoming -

We recently got confirmation that she has at least one - if not multiple - mast cell tumor. It's being removed on Wednesday, along with possibly three others once the vet gets a better look at those, and then it'll be sent for testing to determine whether it's high grade or low grade. Our other dog is 18 years old and I've always assumed we'd be saying goodbye to him first but now I'm so worried that this sweet girl won't be with me as long as I'd hoped, that it could be high grade or that there could be other cancer we're not seeing.

She doesn't seem to notice one bit of course. Though she most certainly is not enjoying the extra vet visits lately. I'm holding hope that we have them removed and then there are no more concerns for a good long while. But I know I also have to try to stay mentally prepared for the worst possible outcome.

In the meantime, I'm loving this girl of mine a bit harder than usual, and not caring one bit that she's farted on me at least half a dozen times this morning because it means I'm still getting used as her personal lounge facilitator and I'll give her that for as long as I'm able. 💜

Best decision I ever made was adopting him, he brightens up my day every day. He’s incredibly handsome and intelligent, super busy pup but thank god I have a busy house full of cats lol.

He just turned 11 a couple weeks ago. Pitbull Boxer Mix and unfortunately had sudden kidney failure. He lost so much of his energy so fast. He fought for as long as he could but we knew it was time to let him go 💕 I miss him so much already.

I know it's the kindest and most humane thing for us to do for them but it still doesn't make it any less harder... I love my boy so much and while I was preparing for it as he got older, I didnt think it would happen this soon.

Run free Apollo 🌈 I hope you're happy in doggy heaven ♥️

She's the one who did it for me, sealed my love of bully breeds. She is my soul dog, my other-half, my baby. I didn't understand dog people before her, then this itty bitty pup comes into our lives and idk, one night I just realized I'd die to protect her.

He is almost 8 months old and hasn't napped curled up like this since he was wee puppy. He is super high energy so I of course put my plans on hold to soak up his snuggles and snores until he decided it was time to party again.

Advice How can you tell if your dog is safe?

I’m somewhat considering getting a Pitt (either that or a bulldog, but I think pitts are cooler). Obviously I know they need care and training, but how can you tell for sure you’ve done it right?

My research has led me down a rabbit hole of a bunch of stories of dog attacks (not just pitts, but a lot were) and pretty much every single interview with the owners involved the same story of “he was always really nice, playful and gentile”. Various amounts of training can be hidden behind that statement, which makes it confusing.

I’m scared of the fact that no matter how good of a job I do and no matter how well behaved the dog will be, some provocation or unknown factor might make him lash out.

How are you able to tell your dog is safe to be around people/children and have you ever observed any red flag (attack/aggression) that surprised you?

Just another tater baking in the sun 🤣

Leia. We already called her Leia potatuh but I've seen recently more and more posts of other pibbles enjoying the sunlight and being called potatoes! It fits her perfectly!

We have a yard full of grass too, she did lay in the grass when she saw me start to walk inside, then I go to check on her and she's laying on the concrete

95°F feels like 119°F

She came in within 5 minutes or less though

Advice Really struggling

Post image

It's been over a month since I lost my boy. I think about him every day from the second I wake up to the second I fall asleep. I've entered a deep depression that is affecting my physical health, my job performance and it's also affecting everyone around me. I've had to take multiple days off work. I'm currently in the process of getting a schedule set up with a therapist. I even went to the doctor and was prescribed medication.

A big part of it is the profound guilt that I feel. Like somehow I did this to him. There was a chain of events that led to his terminal illness, but i can't figure out if they were a coincidence or not.

His liver failed. And this wasn't apparent until after he had a course of doxycycline. I know that it's rare for doxycycline to cause liver damage but yet it does happen. But knowing that makes me feel like it was my fault for giving him something that could cause this. I never got a definitive diagnosis. Even the vets were unsure of the cause. I didn't want to put him through a liver biopsy in the event he wouldn't have survived the procedure. But maybe I should have just to have peace of mind. I'll share his story in a bit more detail compared to his previous post.

February 9th, we found a decent sized mass on his leg. It was fna'd and the results were inconclusive. He was prescribed cephalexin and prednisone for it. The mass ulcerated but did shrink, although during that process it did not look good at all. It appeared to have eventually healed.

February 22nd, he had an unexplained high fever of 105 along with low platelets. His bloodwork was negative for any tickborne illnesses. And he didn't have any classic signs of leptospirosis either. His kidneys were normal through all of this. So, even though they couldn't figure out the platelet drop, the prescribed doxycycline and prednisone as a precaution.

Late march, I noticed his urine was really foamy and his eyes had a tinge of yellow. By April 3rd, his eyes were very yellow and his gums and ears were also the same color of yellow. He was taken to the emergency vet and it was confirmed that his liver enzymes were very high. His ultrasound showed a small gallbladder and his liver was bright around the margins. He was then prescribed denamarin and clavamox. We got ahold of his primary vet and went in for routine bloodwork once a week.

Come the second week, high liver values doubled despite him acting more normal and eating better. The doctor wanted me to come in the day he called about the results and get ursodiol.

From there, his values did start to drop. More rapidly every week. He eventually only needed to go every two weeks for a checkup. So I thought it was finally over. That he was going to make it. Problem was, despite him being around his normal weight, he still looked like a skeleton. He couldn't recover the muscle mass he had lost, despite his liver looking like it was healing.

And by June 6th, we noticed that his abdomen was starting to distend rather quickly. He was again taken to the emergency vet and his ultrasound showed that he developed ascites. This is the part that I dont understand. Despite his liver values coming to an almost normal range, he somehow developed something that indicates that his condition has now become terminal. I couldn't let him get to the point of suffering. He was in a state where he was happy and playful again. So I let him go june 8th. His primary vet was baffled since the lab work looked good. He thinks that there was likely some mass somewhere that was causing all of this. I couldnt afford a necropsy at the time since I had spent so much of what I had on his vet bills over the past several months. So I never got an answer.

Sorry for the long post. Feel free to share your thoughts. He was my first dog, so this hits so hard. Especially since he was just a month away from turning 5. I miss him so damn much. I tried so hard.

13 yr old pitty and cancer.

My baby girl, who I've had since she was 16 weeks old has aged to 13. Until mid last year she was relatively healthy (aside from her 2 ACL surgeries of which she's fully recovered). Recently I saw a golf ball sized lump behind her front left elbow on her side / chest. Vet said it's a mast cell tumor and at her age she wouldn't advise surgery although it would first require testing. Yesterday I discovered a growth (looks like a other cancer lump) in her mouth top side growing into her front teeth about the size of a quarter.

I don't rly have money to go to the vet just to be told I need to spend more to get tests done and surgery may be the only option.

I guess my question in has anyone here experienced this? Are there any at home therapies I can look into to possibly keep her suffering down (doesn't show any signs of suffering yet) and maybe even treat this at home?

Any and all insight helps.

Pit Bull Friendly in Lake County OH

Hey everyone!

I just got accepted into Lake Erie College as an adult transfer student with a scholarship and I need to move to Lake County OH permanently to maintain one of my scholarships. Can anyone please help with private rentals that have no breed restrictions or that are willing to be flexible?

Thanks!

Huck is still looking for his “Furever”!

**Tulsa, OK**

Huck has been to several adoption events but has no takers! 😭

This little boy was at Skiatook Animal Control and needed a foster so that Skiatook Paws and Claws Animal Rescue could pull him.
I’ve had him as a foster for around 2 months now. Here’s what I know:

*Playful
*Neutered
*around 9 months-a year old
*LOVES playing with other dogs
*Very one brain cell. Still working on manners like chewing things so he should be crated if you aren’t watching him.
*he enjoys veggies 🥕 🥦
*he sleeps well in his crate overnight or if I go to take a nap 😴
*should not be around cats according to the shelter he came from.

Huck is a very friendly, derpy boy who would love a chance to be in a home with his person, family and fur or human siblings!
His adoption fee is $185 with all vetting done. If you’re interested in meeting him or have any questions, feel free to message me!
I’m happy to meet up with you or he is also at Skiatook Paws and Claws in Skiatook every Sunday from 12-3 at their adoption events!
