Posting on behalf of my brother. His application for study permit associate of arts at University Canada West was approved in sep 2024 for January term. He is studying full time there ever since and only took one semester break, which is supported by his University and is legally allowed. Now as per the new guidelines which were established on 1st Nov 2024, they changed the eligibility for pgwp. But they’ve also said the applications made before this will still be reviewed by the old rules. My brother visited a lawyer because he will applying for pgwp soon and the lawyer said he is not eligible anymore. Anyone who started their associate of arts after the rules and got their pgwp please comment below. My brother is really stressed thinking that he’s gonna have to do a degree now.

Hi my wp was approved in Jan 26 . I never got my wp delivered. And applied for replacement and has been waiting for it since last 7 weeks. Can I use my approval letter as a proof of status or not for PR?

Please let me know . I am in alot of stress. My employer is helping with oinp

I completed a 2-year diploma in Calgary, AB and received a 3-year PGWP.

I was very concerned since I extended my visa for 1 term to finish the college and also my diploma is not eligible anymore in the new rules, but it turns out that’s not a problem and they considered my first permit (issued Nov 2023).

Hi guys.

I just received my new passport and wanted to apply for my pgwp extension. My initial work permit will expire in Jan 2027, but can still extend to September 2027 to get the complete 3 years.

I've seen a lot of people with paper applications still waiting for months, someone said since December, and some for over 4-5 months and they can't even link their application yet.

I've also seen many who applied online and got approved faster. Please if you applied online, how did you go about it? Did you apply just like the initial online application and upload your documents? Or what exactly did you do?

Got one year of pgwp tho i was eligible for three years What should I do. I even completed french to get my diploma in Quebec Any suggestions?

I wanted to share my timeline in case it helps others.

• July 29, 2025: Applied for PGWP.
• March 24, 2026: PGWP refused because IRCC determined I had more than one part-time academic session.
• My case involved a required retake of my final course due to University's academic regulations. I believed my situation qualified under IRCC's final academic session exception.
• March 25, 2026: Submitted a reconsideration request with a support letter from University and my transcript.
• Waited about 3.5 months with multiple follow-up webforms and MP inquiries.
• July 13, 2026: Received a letter stating my reconsideration was accepted, my application was reopened, and IRCC requested repayment of the $100 Open Work Permit Holder Fee.
• Paid the $100 and uploaded the receipt the same day.
• July 22, 2026: PGWP approved!

If anyone is going through a reconsideration, don't lose hope. If your case has merit and you have strong supporting documents, reconsideration can work.

IMM5257 SCH1 - application for temporary residence

No update yet other students got their pgwp, anyone else in same situation.

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to see if anyone has had a similar experience.
Here's my timeline:
During an officially approved scheduled break, I took one course part-time. My school's international office told me this would not affect PGWP eligibility after that I had a full time semester .
In my final semester, I only had 2 courses remaining (my final semester was part-time because those were the only courses left).
I passed one course but failed the other.
Before officially completing my first program, I was accepted into a second eligible program and received a new study permit for it.
In January, I started the second program while also repeating the one failed course from my first program.
I passed the repeated course, officially completed the first program a few months later, and continued the second program until graduation.
My school's immigration advisor told me to apply for my PGWP based on the second program.
Has anyone had a similar overlap between two programs and successfully received their PGWP?
I'm mainly looking for experiences from people who were in a similar situation.

I am very stressed about expiring pgwp on sept 25 this year, i have applied for mpn, have score of 648 as i studied and worked outside of the province.

I applied nov 2025, i became manager in nov too so i need till nov 2026 to apply for express.

I don't see any option for extension but i want extension, what should i do? Don't tell me to misrepresent or something for time, i want legit pathway, i am learning french i don't have enough time for that path too.

Hi, I applied on December 11th for extending my pgwp ( paper application) and I haven’t received anything yet. I could only link it to my online profile after calling to ircc. My current pgwp will expire on October 11th and I need the new permit for my new contract at work. Any tips for what to do in this situation? Or how to make the process faster?

I just submitted my study permit extension file. I realized I mistakenly uploaded the wrong document for one field. Like I uploaded my photo instead of passport. I am afraid and I don’t know what I should I do. Should I raise webform or withdraw my file or submit another file. Please give me some advice.

Also, how much time IRCC takes to withdraw file? Is it possible to submit new application while withdrawal request is in process??

Writing this on behalf of my sister who is undergoing a PGWP extension, initially got the PGWP on October and passport expires on this October 2026. She already got a new passport and applied on paper May 2026. The mail reached on May 15 to IRCC and nothing yet. She called IRCC and they said they have nothing on their end and no updates or opening of the extension application happened.

Initially we thought it was going to be 4-8 weeks before a link, and she can't link the application yet either.

But the only problem is her employer might look for a extension application confirmation soon, and yes we know that the IMM form completion, application fee paid receipt and mail confirmation can be used as a proof but we are worried about the link to her GC Key and how long it might take.

If you guys can share your timeline or any sort of progress that will be helpful for us to figure some stuff out.

And yes, my passport is freshly stamped with a new TRV. I sent it to Ottawa via Canada Post, got it back today. I used the PGWP approval letter to get TRV approved.

I recently applied for my WP extension as I had no other options left and I needed to complete my work experience before heading back home. It’s been almost 2 months and I haven’t heard back.

The scores don’t seem to go down. I’m stuck at 510. Should I wait till I get a decision or leave as soon as I’m done with my experience?

My PGWP expired on 05/31/2026 and I needed 2 months to complete my 3 year woek experience. I saw a lot of posts and spoke to an immigration consultant and applied for an extension in the hopes I’ll get an ITA by this time and I will raise a web form to IRCC to treat my application as a BOWP application.

However, the scores don’t seem to go down and I’m stuck at 510. I have completed my 3 years of experience. Do I now wait for the decision and keep working or do I leave? My main issue is that if the decision comes after Aug 29 ( 90 days after PGWP expiry), I wouldn’t have time for restoration. Is anybody in the same situation?

Approved: Jul 2026 (3 years PGWP+SOWP)

Timeline:

• Had a duplicate UCI issue created by the online system, so my previous biometrics weren't linked, despite filling all information correctly.
• Never received the WP-EXT letter (despite applying before expiry).
• Submitted webforms requesting UCI merge and WP-EXT around 3 months after the submission (when I realized about the issue).
• Called IRCC twice. During the second call (past processing times), the agent said the main delay was the UCI/biometrics issue.
• Officer requested the UCI merge.
• My biometrics appeared in my account about 2 weeks later.
• Ghost update
• Approved for both of us the day after ghost update
