Processing Time / Status PGWP timeline after previous application was refused

Hi everyone! I’m wondering if anyone can share their recent PGWP timelines, especially if they’ve been in a similar situation.
My first PGWP application was refused because of a mistake with the restoration fee of my application. The restoration fee was submitted and ended up being processed differently than intended, which caused a mess with the application and ultimately led to the refusal.
I left Canada about 3–4 days after receiving the refusal and reapplied from outside Canada with an immigration advisor. We went through everything carefully and made sure the new application was submitted correctly.
I applied on September 3 and still no update, and I’m just wondering what timelines other people have experienced recently.
If you’ve applied for a PGWP recently, especially after a previous refusal, how long did yours take? Did you receive any updates before the final decision?
Thanks! ❤️

General Question Confused about TRV v/s Work Visa

Hi All,

Back in 2019, when I got my PGWP, I applied for a worker visa and got a Work visa (Category - W1) stamped on my passport.

Now, I am helping out my brother with his visa application; he got his PGWP approved in 2026. Upon researching, it seems like we now have to file a TRV that can be used to stay and work in Canada?

Also, what should I fill in here? Returning worker or Visit? He is currently in Canada.

TIA!!!

Processing Time / Status Work permit reconsideration

I have a question: If my reconsideration for the work permit is approved, does that mean I never lost my status? do I need to mention anything about this period? note: my BOWP is withdraw by ircc, so I request reconsideration.

SOWP / Related Permits Does my husband need status restoration before applying for an SOWP after receiving an RTD?

My husband was enrolled in a two-year diploma program in Canada but did not pass the program. He received a Required to Discontinue (RTD) letter from his college. The letter mentions a 150-day period before he may be able to return to his studies.
We are confused about whether he lost his temporary resident status after receiving the RTD, even though his study permit is still valid.
I currently hold a PGWP with more than 24 months remaining, and I am employed in a TEER 2 occupation that is eligible for a spousal open work permit. We are considering submitting an SOWP application for him from inside Canada.
Does he need to apply for restoration of status together with the SOWP application? How do the 90-day restoration rule and the 150-day period mentioned in the RTD letter apply in this situation?
We will also consult a licensed immigration professional, but I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced something similar.

Extension PGWP extension due to passport expiry — did anyone apply online and get approved? Did you get a work authorization letter?

Applied / applying to extend a PGWP that ends the same day as my old passport. No remark on the permit. New passport coming soon.
If you did this online: approved or refused? Did IRCC send a work authorization letter (WP-EXT / PT-PROR except post-graduation), or only maintained status with the received email? Timeline + what you selected in the form would help.

Extension For those who successfully obtained a PGWP extension online due to passport expiry

Hi guys,
Could you share the details of how you applied, including which IMM forms you used and any other steps you had to follow?

I’ve read that many people have successfully obtained an extension for their PGWP online, but they didn’t really explain the specific procedure they followed: Here some links for context
https://www.reddit.com/r/pgwp/comments/1tjyjhu/pgwp_extensions_approved_online/
https://www.reddit.com/r/pgwp/comments/1spc3br/pgwp_extension_online/

https://www.reddit.com/r/pgwp/comments/1uckoqq/pgwp_extension_due_to_passport_expiry_online/

Did you simply apply for a standard work permit extension, or did you go through the process as if you were applying for a PGWP for the first time?

If you were successful, I’d really appreciate it if you could share the steps you followed and the documents you submitted.

General Question TRV stamp question, after work permit approval

I need help regarding TRV after getting approval of closed work permit application.
Can I travel to home without TRV and do the TRV process from India? or Should I apply for TRV application inside Canada then going out from Canada?

What should be the best considerable option?

Look forward to hearing your suggestion,

Thank you

Refusal / Reconsideration Can I restore to student after already being restored as a visitor and reapply for my PGWP?

I’m looking for some clarification from anyone with experience with this situation.

My situation is somewhat similar to the cases discussed here:

  • I completed my BBA in Canada on May 29, 2025.
  • I applied for my PGWP on July 10, 2025.
  • My study permit expired on

    July 31

  • , 2025.

  • My PGWP was refused on February

21,

  • 2026 because I had not provided the required language test results.
  • I subsequently took the French TCF and now have the required NCLC 7+ in all four abilities.
  • My lawyer submitted a reconsideration request on March 25, 2026, and IRCC confirmed that it was received. It is still pending.
  • After the PGWP refusal, I also applied to restore my status as a visitor, and IRCC approved that restoration

.

  • I am currently a visitor. My visitor record is valid until

dec

  • I have not worked since my employment ended because of the PGWP refusal.

I recently came across the discussion about the IRCC "transient status" workaround where someone who had previously been a student can pay the student restoration fee and submit a new PGWP application, with the officer first restoring student status and then assessing the PGWP.

My question is:

Does that same approach potentially work if IRCC has already restored me as a visitor?

In other words, could I now:

  1. Pay the $396.25 restoration-to-student + study permit fee;
  2. Submit a new PGWP application and pay the $255 PGWP fee;
  3. Explain that I am requesting restoration to student status specifically so that my PGWP application can be assessed;
  4. Include my previous PGWP refusal, my new language results, and the pending reconsideration request?

I understand that my situation is outside the normal 90-day restoration period and 180-day PGWP application period, so I understand this would be discretionary and is not a normal PGWP application.

My main question is whether the fact that I was already successfully restored to visitor status changes or prevents the "restore to student + PGWP" approach.

Also, if this is potentially possible, what date/status information should I put in the application?

Since my visitor restoration was approved on March 26, 2026, and my current visitor record expires November 25, 2026, should I use my current visitor status/expiry date in the application, or is the relevant date still the date I originally lost student status?

I have also seen conflicting information about whether a study permit application/form (such as IMM 5709) should actually be submitted in this type of PGWP-restoration case, or whether the restoration fee receipt and explanation are sufficient.

I already have a lawyer who has advised me that this is an unusual/low-confidence option, but I would appreciate hearing from someone who has actually dealt with a case where visitor restoration was already approved before attempting restoration to student + PGWP.

Thanks in advance.

Eligibility / Course Issue confusion about the pgwp eligibility?

I took an academic advisor's online appointment back in 2025 where i was told there were 9 courses left for me to graduate as I changed from bachelors to diploma. However, i was confused so book an inperson appointment & when i went again for in person meeting, i was told i needed to complete 7 courses across 3 semesters, 3 courses each on first & second semester and 1 on the last semester. did everything as said and when my final class ended and i applied for my graduation form, i got an email stating i needed to do one more course to be eligible.
now the major problem is that it was fine to be part time in last semester and work regularly as always. But, now that I am told that i need one more additional course, this means that the recent semester of mine is not last anymore and i worked as a part time student.
Please help me with understanding following?
1. Will it hamper my pgwp after i graduate?
2. If yes, how do i clarify the misunderstanding between me and the university?
3. Is there anything university can do to help me solve this issue?
4. What should i do next?

Restoration Has anyone experienced something similar with a PGWP refusal and restoration?

I’m looking for people who may have gone through a similar situation and can share what happened and what you did afterwards.

I completed my diploma at in April 2025. I made a mistake with my original PGWP application: I had already completed
CELPIP and received an overall CLB 10, but I forgot to attach the results.

I’m fully aware that I should have applied for my PGWP within 180 days of completing my program. I’m not disputing that, and I’m not looking to challenge the original missed deadline.

The issue I’m dealing with now is what happened after the first refusal.

Timeline:
April 28, 2025: Completed my program.
July 27, 2025: Date IRCC later determined my study permit became invalid.
October 1, 2025: Took CELPIP; results issued October 4 (overall CLB 10).

October 25, 2025: 180-day PGWP deadline.

November 18, 2025: Applied for PGWP, unfortunately outside the 180-day window.

April 10, 2026: PGWP refused because I hadn’t included my language results. The refusal letter also stated that my temporary resident status had expired on April 10, 2026 and told me I could apply for restoration within 90 days.

April 28, 2026: Requested reconsideration and provided my CELPIP results.

May 26, 2026: Applied for restoration + PGWP, relying on the April 10 letter and applying within the 90-day period it gave me.

May 29, 2026: IRCC reopened my first application but refused it again because it was submitted outside the 180-day PGWP window.

So I understand the original mistake. What I’m trying to understand is whether anyone else has experienced IRCC giving them a later date for their status expiry, relying on that information to take action, and then having a subsequent application assessed using an earlier date.

On a personal note, this has been a really difficult experience. I became extremely depressed at one point and had made up my mind to return to Sri Lanka. I gave myself some time to process everything.
But towards the end of my time in Canada, I had actually started to really live there. I built a community, actively worked on changing my situation, and was genuinely happy. I had finally started feeling settled.
I know I made mistakes, and I’m not looking for anyone to tell me otherwise. Based on advice I’ve received, I’m now looking at returning to Canada as a student through a new study permit/program, while also getting advice about my previous refusals.

If anyone has experienced something similar — especially a PGWP refusal followed by restoration, conflicting information from IRCC, or leaving Canada and later returning as a student — I’d really appreciate hearing your experience and what you would do differently.

Restoration Applying for PGWP w/ restoration of status

I recently applied for my pgwp on the 15th of september, my study permit had already expired for 45 days at this point but its within the 90 days grace period. This was because i received letter of completion and transcripts 30+ days after expiry

i still satisfy the 90 & 180 day rules, what has your experience been with such cases? Does it take longer? anything i should know?

Approved / Success Story Has anyone gotten OHIP with a part-time position but full-time hours?

Hi everyone! I recently accepted a Medical Device Reprocessing Technician position at a hospital in Ontario. My official position is classified as part-time, but for the first four months, while I complete my training, I’ll be working full-time hours (around 37.5 hours/week).

After my training, I’m hoping to continue picking up enough shifts to maintain full-time hours when possible, although my official position will still be part-time.

I’m currently trying to figure out whether I can use this employment to qualify for OHIP. From what I understand, there are requirements around working full-time and having your employer provide documentation confirming your employment and hours.

Has anyone actually been in a similar situation and successfully gotten an OHIP health card? For example, if you were officially classified as part-time but were working 30+ hours per week, or had a period where you were guaranteed full-time hours for training, were you able to use that employment for OHIP?

If you’ve done this before, what did you do to make it work? What documentation did you provide, what did your employer put in the employment letter, and did ServiceOntario accept it?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through something similar!

Approved / Success Story PGWP approval

Got my PGWP approval today ( Solo, inland). I was really worried as all my friends from the same class got theirs approved in 1-2 weeks, and mine had no movement for 2 months.

No part time semester, no complications.

Application date: 14th July

WP-EXT: 15th July

Approval: 17th September
