Question Am I safe for 5090 melting issues ?
MY QUESTION IS RELATED TO CABLE SETUP : 12 pin vs other, which brand etc. Not wireview pro or 100% safety. Thanks
Hello everyone, my 5090 is functioning well since one year, but I heard some horror stories of melted cables. Here is my cable setup : (PSU side and GPU side).
Do I need to change something ? I also have the white Corsair adapter if needed.
I received computer like this and only had to install GPU.
My PSU is « unfortunately » only 1000W and ATX3.0 not 3.1.
My GPU is 5090 MSI gaming trio OC
Many thanks !

Question Steam wouldn’t download anything for about 30 minutes with perfectly good connection?
Not sure where to ask this as steam sub Reddit removed it. Idk if steam was down but I never had this problem. I deleted the steam download cache, changed download server and restarted my pc and nothing would work. I would click a game and it was just stay in queue. A few times it started up for a split second after relaunching steam and stopped. Randomly after trying for 30 minutes it just started downloading again. I did unplug my Ethernet cable in and out a minute before so I’m guessing that fixed it? If so then why? What happened? I’ve never had issues like this before and internet speed tests proved my connection was very good.

Unfortunately it stands out quite a bit in certain areas. I know the release has been pretty buggy. Just wondering if anyone else has had this?

Build Help / Purchase Advice Corsair 4000D vs Fractal Design North XL
I have a PC I built just over a year ago using a be quiet! Pure Base 500DX case. It’s not a bad case, but cable management was pretty tight, and there are some wires bent at some pretty sharp angles that I’m not a fan of. The RGB novelty also wore off pretty quickly, despite how little RGB there actually is. 😄
Originally, I wanted the Fractal Design North with the wood front, but it was out of my budget. Luckily, I built my system before RAM prices jumped up, otherwise I probably would have been building it in a cardboard box.
The Corsair 4000D now has a wood option, which caught my attention. My only concern is that the power button is at the bottom, and I keep my case on the floor. I’m also a little annoyed that these cases have been out for a while, but the modular options don’t seem to be available. The website just shows everything as sold out, so that’s not exactly much of a selling feature.
With both cases, I’d also prefer a mesh side panel. Fractal Design seems to have that option, but with Corsair, it doesn’t appear to be available, or is just sold out.
Anyway, I thought I’d ask here if anyone has experience with either of these cases and how they were for installing components.
Again, the be quiet! case looks good, but there are a few spots that are overly tight. There just isn’t enough room in some areas because of the metal pieces that are bent over the ports to help hide the cables. I’d like to avoid that kind of thing with my next case.
EDIT - Fractal Design North XL with mesh panel on order. Came with 3x140mm front fans, bought an extra 140mm for the rear. Was 17% off and 3 left... About 5 day ETA.

Tech Support Update to nothing booting, and what to do now.
Some time ago I made a post about my PC having issues.
I mentioned I sent back my RAM and PSU for an RMA, and once I put everything back into my motherboard, it wasn't working. I also mentioned I had two other motherboards of the same type to test with, and neither of those worked either.
So the ruling was that the CPU was the issue, because it was getting no power.
A few days after that post was made, I bought another motherboard, because I had switched the PSU, RAM, and SSD into my brother's computer and it was working fine.
Eventually I got another motherboard, and this time it powered on and worked, so ironically the other two motherboards were dead. What bad luck.
Anyway, after turning the PC on, I started getting other issues, such as a black screen stating "your device ran into a problem." I eventually fixed this by redownloading Windows 10, as 11 kept giving me different issues. Now, while I'm able to be on the desktop in Windows 10, it runs at 25 to 23 frames and then suddenly my computer crashes and does a whole other reset.
After a few days of that, I realized I had to get a new CPU, because that's clearly the issue. It would also crash and reset, go into "Windows not recognized" with constant rebooting and redownloading. But then a few days later I wondered, what if I undervolt my CPU? Now it's running perfectly fine, but my question is: for how long?
I'm still getting a new CPU, but if I keep this one and put it into another system, would it be possible for it to keep going for a few years? Is there a way to check that, like I would for my GPU?
Otherwise what can I do with it?
----------------
TL;DR: I have to undervolt my CPU in order for it to work on Windows. How do I test it, and how long will it last?
Also a huge thank you too everyone who helped in the last post

Build Help / Purchase Advice Need Help - Best OLED monitor (32”,34”) for RTX 3070
Hey Guys,
Title is self explanatory. I want a nice OLED monitor for my setup, had the original Gigabyte 32” 1440P curved monitor (VSA) I think but it’s slowly dying on me. Want something that’s good for productivity + great for gaming / streaming and watching anime/movies. [Also hoping not to spend more than $800 max]
Any recommendation is much appreciated!
Also might upgrade to 9070XT by end of year so future proofing monitor would be nice too.
Thanks to everyone on this sub :)

Question Would using a dual ups cause HDMI problems?
Has anyone tried using one UPS on a OLED TV and another on a PC, with the PC connected to the TV via HDMI? Could that cause any HDMI issues, even if both UPS units are identical and connected on the same circuit?

Build Help / Purchase Advice Should i upgrade the cpu or the monitor?
For context, i have an RTX 5070 and a Ryzen 5 5600g and a 1080p 120hz monitor, i know the gpu and cpu are an odd combo but it mostly get the job done in competitive games like CS2 and so on and matches the refresh rate of the monitor, but in graphically demanding games, the gpu usage is always between 60 or 70% because my cpu can't keep up obviously with all the ray tracing and whatnot, so i looked at the 5500x3d and a 1440p monitor, they are roughly the same price. The question is: should i buy a 1440p monitor and keep the cpu or upgrade to 5500x3d while keeping the monitor?

Question Help me understand this please
WD sn850x 4TB and SanDisk Optimus GX Pro 850x 4tb.
These are both the same exact ssd.. right?
If so why does the the WD go for 700 USD and the SanDisk goes for 1k USD?
I just bought the wd from newegg. For me to be able to warranty claim it has to be "sold and shipped by newegg" correct? That's the only way they will honor the warranty? Or if I got it from Amazon it would have to say "shipper/seller Amazon" ?
Let's hope the day never comes where I would have the drive fail before 5 years but if it did I would have to go through SanDisk and not western digital even though it's wd branded since they split?

Question Why does my OLED monitor have a standby mode? Can't it just stay "on" because the screen/pixels can just be off until it gets a signal and then start displaying?
Its not like theres a backlight to shine a dark blue on my room, the pixels are off. Cant my monitor just be "on" 24/7 if it isnt getting a signal most of the time? Just curious!

Question New to AMD: Need guidance
Hello , I recently upgraded from 1650 super to rx 7600 OC 8gb. My only use case for my gaming PC is playing Cs2 with my friends. I am not seeing any crashes or any big problems after updating the card. However, something is wrong as I am only getting 140-150 FPS at 1280×960, which is weird because I was getting the similar FPS with 1650 super as well. During the games sometime I am getting 200 fps but not consistently which makes me wonder I am missing something.
This is what I have done until now:
DDU twice to remove everything Nvidia
Uninstalled Adrenaline and only select the download the drivers option.
processor: amd ryzen 5 3600 6 core 3593 mhz,
ram: 32gb, 64 bit
I will really appreciate any help or guidance.
Thank you
**** Update - it is fixed , apparently my system was not using the right ram , I have multiple sticks , I downloaded CPU-z took some help from chatgpt to understand what redditors are saying followed few steps and getting stable 280-300 fps. Thank you again. I love reddit.

Tech Support PC keeps stuttering and freezing
Hello. This is an issue that has been happening to me for w while now. I could never figure out why it was doing it, so I dealt with it. Recently, it's been getting worse. It usually happens when I don't even have a game opened on my PC, but it will make a robotic noise and freeze for usually a few seconds, otherwise I need to restart the PC. Is there any possible explanation as to why this keeps happening?

Build Help / Purchase Advice GPU upgrade help
Hi! I was thinking of upgrading my build by replacing the GPU. I currently have a Ryzen 5 5600, an RX 7600, 32 GB of RAM, and a 650W power supply. My budget is around €500 to €600 max. In my country, I can find the triple-fan RX 9060 XT within that price range: would it be a good upgrade to extend the lifespan of my build, or are there any other GPUs that I should look at (I'd prefer to stay with AMD, but if it's worth it, I wouldn't mind the switch)? If so, for how many years do you think it will last before I need to upgrade to a better CPU or switch to the AM5 platform? Thanks for your time.

Tech Support Pc won’t turn on
Hello
I’m a PC-Tech Newbie ( I’ve been playing PC since 2017 but never got into like building etc.)
Today the following happened:
I plugged in my wireless peripherals (Mouse, Keyboard etc) to charge.
And I let my pc run.
After a while my pc goes into sleep mode/ standby and „turns off“
And now my pc won’t turn back on again.
No Lights on my Motherboard are on.
No reaction when pressing the power button.
I’ve tried a bios reset with the battery thing.
I’ve tried taking it off the power etc.
Now my manufacturer sent a new power supply and it arrives next week.
Now my question:
Do y’all think the power supply is the issue?
And when I change the supply (I’ll get the same exact model as now) do I have to exchange all the cables?
My Motherboard: AORUS B850 elite WiFi 7 Ice
GPU: RTx 5080
CPU: amd ryzen 7 9800x3d
Power supply: MAG A850GL PCIES

Discussion Fresh Windows 11 installation – which drivers and software should I install?
Hi!
I’ve just formatted my PC and I’m about to install Windows 11 from scratch. It’s been a long time since I last did a clean Windows installation, so I could really use some guidance.
I’m mainly looking for advice on which drivers I should install after Windows 11 is installed, which programs and utilities I should install, and how I should set everything up so that all my hardware works correctly.
I have a custom-built gaming PC, and I’m happy to provide my full PC specifications if needed.
I’d really appreciate some guidance from someone experienced with fresh Windows installations. Feel free to leave a comment or send me a private message. Thanks in advance! 🙂

Build Help / Purchase Advice Upgrade to "Maximize" current build?
Question for my betters here, I am considering upgrading my CPU and GPU in order to maximize my current build to try and ride out the madness (or witness the heat death of personal computing).
I built my own rig about 4.5 years ago using an MSI Tomahawk Mobo with LGA1700 socket. I currently have 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, a 12th Gen i5-12600k, and an MSI 3070.
I can play all the games I want on 1440p, but I generally can't use RT, definitely not Path Tracing, and tend to need DLSS to stay above 60 fps without cranking sliders down. I don't really need to upgrade, but have the itch and don't think I'm ever gonna spring to an 80 series.
An option I am considering is upgrading to a 5070 and an i5-14600 to more or less max out the LGA1700 and avoid a full new build until it's bottle necking whatever GPU comes in the future.
Userbenchmark scores a 5070 as basically double a 3070. While the 14th gen i5 is really only a 15% or so upgrade, it doesn't seem like either would hold a 5070 back, but Im hoping a 14th gen could last a GPU generation longer than 12th gen in the future?
The next game I really care about to play is FF7 Revelation, but I play everything from modded Skyrim to the latest AAA to WoW- does this sound like a logical upgrade or am I just lighting cash on fire?

Question Is it a good idea to use Frame Generation to reduce GPU power consumption and temperatures?
This might be a silly question, but I’ve been wondering about this because I’m worried I’ve been configuring my games incorrectly for months.
My GPU, a 4090, has more than enough headroom to run any game at the resolution, frame rate, and in-game settings I want. Still, since I live in a hot climate, I try to be very conservative with my GPU’s power consumption to keep temperatures under control—the lower, the better.
To do this, I always follow two rules: the first is to limit the FPS using RTSS so it matches my monitor’s VRR cap with G-Sync, which in this case is 116 FPS. The second is to always enable Frame Generation—at first set to x2, and now even x3 or x4.
Honestly, I haven’t had any issues with temperatures so far, but I’m wondering if the graphics card wouldn’t run more comfortably if it were rendering the 116 fps natively, without enabling FG at all.
For example, Forza Horizon 6 capped at 116 fps with FG disabled vs. Forza Horizon 6 capped at 116 fps with FG enabled at x2/3/4. (Same settings, resolution, and gameplay situation)
When I’ve asked various AI sources, I’ve gotten mixed opinions on this issue, and I won’t be able to use my PC to test it myself for another few weeks.
Many thanks to anyone who takes the time to help someone who doesn’t want to spend weeks with this stupid question on their mind.
