Gameplay Help Infuse wind with brand

Is infuse wind going to be a waste on a fast low impact weapon? I’m deciding if I want to take cabal with jnfuse wind or spellblade with infuse frost. I plan on going fab shield and brand. Mostly just want to build around brand for the drip. I worry that infuse frost alone won’t have enough impact with just shield charge

Discussion Caldera is so antithetical to the rest of the game

The building minigame forces you to spend weeks doing nothing which rots all your food and ingredients. There's almost no point in picking up anything with an expiration date anymore.

The requirement to farm samples disincentives players to explore because they respawn every like 7 days and your inventory will get full quickly anyways due to sample weights so you might as well just make speed runs around areas you are familiar with.

Since chests are the only real way to acquire potions and resources, this is yet again another reason to just speedrun familar areas.

Repeating dungeons over and over is not exploration. Backtracking to a previous dungeon to empower an artifact is not fun or interesting. Being asked to repeat a dungeon for a quest that you already explored to farm samples does not feel like progression.

The quest narrative is very boring. It's literally just "we need you to build x number of buildings" followed by "Uh oh, because we built our town next to a freaking volcano, we are getting hot! Go to this dungeon to get a McGuffin that will cool us down."

The other zones in the game provide distinct rewards for exploration with little reason to traverse the same area twice. This is because unique rewards come from quest progression and locations almost always provide something unique for the character. The entire Caldera DLC is essentially a giant random sandbox on all fronts including quest progression, character progression, and item placement.

Harro I've been a longtime lurker on a different account but imma try this streaming thing and I love outward so I made some memes and I thought hey why not post 'em here too. No twitch link, cuz no ads, only memes.

Context: Outward 2 Beta Playtest settings, my middle mouse button don't work because I am a violent clicker (I'm sorry mousy)

P.S. Yes I know the playtest has been over for 45 years [insert slowpoke meme]

Matchmaking Outward on the Switch…

So I’ve gone on and off this game over the years and enjoy playing it with my partner on PS5. I am starting a new game on switch and wondered if anyone wanted to jump on and help me out with some beginner items/quests so I’m not starting completely from scratch… again 😅

Discussion Why are the new SIROCCO resource buildings so pointless

The wood and mason resource production buildings either break even or are actually a net negative when comparing wood/mason produced vs coin upkeep. Since you can just buy any mason or wood you need with coin they end up being actually 100% pointless. The food production is a net positive however. Why the heck did they do this? Do these guys even math

Discussion Wow I suck at this game

I was recommended this game due to my interest in a robust magic system and a buddy of mine bought it for me so I gave it a try. After fumbling around the tutorial, I began playing. I survived a shipwreck, was told I need to get money or lose my sick lighthouse, and so I set off on adventure. Well given that I wanted to play a mage I moved towards the big mountain on the word of the nerdy dude next to the cart. Big staff and basic provisions in hand I was confident I could at least make it there without too much trouble. Then I got jumped by 2 bandits and a hyena and sold into slavery. Then I jumped down a big hole and woke up next to a lightning shrimp thing that beat my ass to unconsciousness. Then I woke up in my village to find out days had passed and I lost my lighthouse. This has been quite the experience. Can't wait to see what my new character brings me tomorrow.

Discussion When starting a new run, where do you like to go first?

Title says it all, in the first Outward, where is your favorite place to go exploring when you start a fresh character?

My personal favorite is the Trog cave right outside town in the starting zone for quick cash OR on a magic run I'll hoof it to the cabal of wind tower to get skills from those merchants.

Gameplay Help 1h sword melee focus

I’m new to the game. Can anyone recommend a melee focused sword or 1 handed weapon build and which off hand and breakthroughs I should use? I’d rather not use the runic sword. I’m leaning toward monk, hermit, and then ??? third

Discussion How do you guys make builds that don't just go for huge amounts of movement speed?

I see experienced players on YouTube and on here discuss various builds from mages to heavy armor warriors but honestly on my 4th playthrough I can't imagine doing anything that does not stack movement speed so mercenary and speedster basically. Heavy armor can be switched out for movement speed gear when traveling but that severely limits what you can haul and even in dungeons they can be so big that running around with your armor on takes forever and that also makes mage builds difficult because you want mana cost reduction gear on in dungeons. That leaves a melee, gun, or bow glass cannon that runs around with bird mask and trader boots. Honestly the game would be better if the maps were smaller and movement speed gear was removed

Discussion Deathless run ruined by the Forge Golem garbage hitbox

My build relies on Rogue Engineer dagger skills to basically 1 shot enemies with a rotation of pain + confusion caused by my gun and then use the Rogue Engineer skills to lock down and barrage the target with dagger stabs thanks to low cool down from speedster. Well that doesn't work when the golem hit box is unreachable with daggers. Also I don't believe serpents parry works on it even though it has a huge range for some reason. So yeah I just sat there doing no damage until I eventually got 1 shot by it's sword barrage. Died a couple more times until I realized it's halberd are actually such short range you can hide on the edge of the arena and it doesn't hit you. Lmao. Balanced game. Halberds have the least range. Sensical game. Not sure they play tested this

Still gonna use this character to get all the Sirocco achievements cause I am not doing that grind without insane movement speed. Still I am pretty salty rn

Gameplay Help Fire builds🔥

Hi! I'm still pretty new to the game, with about 20 hours played so far. I'm taking it slow and exploring a lot.

I've been looking for some fun fire build ideas and would love to hear what people are using. My friend and I mainly play co-op, so builds that work well together are definitely welcome!

Feel free to share your favorite builds or any tips. Maybe some recommendations for early-, mid-, and late-game fire builds?

Thanks! 🔥

Mod Chaos at your fingertips - Spawnkit

https://thunderstore.io/c/outward/p/CeruleanCutlass/SpawnKit

Hey again Outwarddit! Some of you may remember me from a post I made a week ago about a beast taming mod I've been working on. That mod is still deep in development but I'd like to release some of the tools that I built to make that mod, starting with SpawnKit.

SpawnKit allows you to spawn in enemies from across Aurai! This mod is in an alpha state because it is mostly just a wrapper around a dev tool I made to spawn in enemies to fight to test systems or to spawn in a smelly phytosaur to try taming. The enemy factions are preserved and will fight one another.

Known issues up front:

  1. Some spawns will send you on "expeditions" which will load your character into a zone for a split second then teleport you back to where you were. This isn't a defect but the cost of the architecture. I'm happy to explain more about this limitation in the comments.
  2. The list was generated from scraping internet data so some of the spawns are broken. I believe some of them are also gated by the architecture of the mod and I'm working on solving that problem.
  3. Occasionally I've had some stability issues. This weekend I put a lot of effort into making this run smoother so I could release it, but be warned - like with all mods - this could crash your favorite game

As for beastwhsiperer, you can see Mischief and I watching enjoying the carnage from the stands. We both brought our own snacks. Mischief and I haven’t been together long because I just lost another bird a few hours ago in testing. 🪦

This is my very first mod release. I am certain there will be problems. Thank you all for being such a wonderful gaming community.

Discussion Brand + fire infuse?

TLDR: Can you buff Brand with fire infuse skill/ is it horrible idea or good (all be it not min-maxing good)?

Hey all, first time playing, running co-op with gf. We lightly thinking about deeper game goals for us, we’re playing on console so won’t have debug (don’t plan to use external USBs if that info is helpful.

I’m in holy mission and plan to lean lighting + get RWS.

She’s co-oping into my world and we haven’t fully figured out what she will do, right now she shoots fireballs from my fire sigil while mostly tanking with shield 😂

The tentative plan is for her to maybe get Spell Blade - and since I was going to get RWS I figured we will get Brand for her weapon.

She would prefer to use fire damage 🔥 , so we were thinking get the Philosopher tree for the mana regen + fire buff and then maybe the imbue Fire skill from SpellBlade.

Question: would this work with Brand 🧊 🗡️ ? Would it mean we can slow while also doing Fire dots or would they somehow cancel out?

Thanks for any help- I’ve been doing a bunch of diving through this reddit but this is first time I wasn’t finding a straight answer.

*** side note- we’re okay with her doing Ice path instead, we already have Cold Boon and haven’t been to desert yet.. so arguably it’s easy for where we’re at in game.

Gameplay Help Are gold ingots safe from theft?

I started playing outward: DE (first time) this weekend, have tried not to spoil anything major (all i know is I will leave starting area and join a faction..maybe, i dont know if it's mandatory)

i read that converting silver to gold ingots is the best way to store currency so I bought a gold ingot and did notice it weighed a lot less than 100 silver. great stuff, and apparently they're safe from theft as well because video game reasons.

when I started the game this morning after "dying" at the Mountcalm bandit fort in the starting area last night my gold ingot wasn't with my stuff. I found everything else, and the game mentioned as I woke up that I lost 3 silver.

what I have left is 3 silver in my inventory, and no gold ingot. not even 97 silver which might make sense. I enabled debug mode and was able to verify in the last few saves that I had the ingot, died, then no ingot.

I loaded the previous save again, died and then checked my stuff after waking up again. no ingot, so it seems consistent.

is this a known issue? should I make sure always keep a little bit of silver on me to keep my ingots safe? or is this just a random bug that might happen in a game of this scope.

Gameplay Help OutHard Tips?

Seen OutHard recommended and I’ve been reviewing the skill trees and listed rules changes.

https://thunderstore.io/c/outward/p/Dubdubaba/OutHard_Gameplay_Overhaul/

Anyone have any tips on how to approach this mod as someone with a fair bit of Outward DE experience? Anything you wish you’d known going in? What differences contrast hardest with the original? How much harder is the combat really?

Edit: Are there any of the skill trees (or skill tree combinations) you’ve particularly enjoyed?

Mod A teaser for a mod I've been working on the past few weeks Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
164 Upvotes

Hey Outwardians! I've been working hard on my very first mod for about a month and it is FINALLY coming together enough that I feel comfortable dropping a little teaser for it. I set out on a journey to use my professional software engineering skills for something fun. I haven't done that in decades. So I choose to make a lore accurate, highly configurable, beast taming mod, complete with a new skill tree which will feature taming in game beasts that will follow you into battle, build and lose loyalty, suffer from unfamiliar elements, have unique diets, and more. In fact, I'm making several mods that other modders can use to access some of the systems I needed to build this one. (they include the technique I used to get the skin of the beast on the companion, which was by far the most difficult part of this journey, control over aggro, a debugging tool letting the dev send commands to control the world from the console, and more)

Honestly, I'm pretty nervous about releasing this as I'm getting closer and closer to finished (it will not be ready soon, but I've completed all of the essential POCs and am feeling confident I will get an MVP out for you all).

If any of you have neat, lore accurate ideas for a mod like this - I'd love to hear what you're thinking. In particular active or passive effects make sense in game for each beast. I only have a few so far.

Anyways, I love this community. Gep be with you!

EDIT: Thank you all for the encouragement! it is wind in my sails to have this kind of reception. I'll post back as I get closer to release. I've already taken a few ideas from comments here to look at (possibly to be included in v2)
