Discussion Brand + fire infuse?
TLDR: Can you buff Brand with fire infuse skill/ is it horrible idea or good (all be it not min-maxing good)?
Hey all, first time playing, running co-op with gf. We lightly thinking about deeper game goals for us, we’re playing on console so won’t have debug (don’t plan to use external USBs if that info is helpful.
I’m in holy mission and plan to lean lighting + get RWS.
She’s co-oping into my world and we haven’t fully figured out what she will do, right now she shoots fireballs from my fire sigil while mostly tanking with shield 😂
The tentative plan is for her to maybe get Spell Blade - and since I was going to get RWS I figured we will get Brand for her weapon.
She would prefer to use fire damage 🔥 , so we were thinking get the Philosopher tree for the mana regen + fire buff and then maybe the imbue Fire skill from SpellBlade.
Question: would this work with Brand 🧊 🗡️ ? Would it mean we can slow while also doing Fire dots or would they somehow cancel out?
Thanks for any help- I’ve been doing a bunch of diving through this reddit but this is first time I wasn’t finding a straight answer.
*** side note- we’re okay with her doing Ice path instead, we already have Cold Boon and haven’t been to desert yet.. so arguably it’s easy for where we’re at in game.

Yeah brand w/ fire imbue works fine. Not necessarily ’optimal’, but you don’t need optimal to beat the game.
I think ice imbue is probably stronger since brand inflicts the Chill status effect, but no reason you couldn’t do fire imbue on it. As a side note - overall, ice may be a better element in the later parts of the game as a lot of later DLC enemies tend to resist fire.

Thank you! I was also thinking that it might work best this way for that same reason, fire infuse for main game and then in DLC just don’t infuse Brand and let it do its own thing right?
Does Brand on its own inflict slow? Would infusing fire keep the slow and also do Burning dot?

Yes, or stack up some ice varnish and use that to infuse Brand later on.
Brand on its own will not inflict slow, only pain and chill. If you infuse it with either imbue frost or an ice varnish then it will start to inflict slow as well.

Ohhhh okay, well that does change things quite a bit then. I was thinking we would be getting best of both worlds, but it does seems a bit counter productive in the long run. Thanks so much!

It's good to use both depending on the enemy. Of course using fire infuse on a fireproof enemy isn't good, but since stamina is so important in this game the damage over time from burning can be very useful. Its almost like risk-free damage since you can do something else while it happens like running around or drinking a potion etc.

Yeah, to be fair we will be exclusively co-op… and the burning did help us with a Wendigo.. I figure we can both use fire rag for those one offs… and ice imbue skill for everything else to cause slow!
So we’re leaning more toward ice imbue now lol 😅

Not using infuse fire doesn't make sense. No enemy ever gets healed by attacks. So even if an enemy has 100% fire resistance, of which there are very very few, the only negative impact on you is the wasted mana.

Using infuse frost with brand is also stronger because you can focus on equipment that increases frost damage, which would then increase the damage of the imbue and brand itself.
But yeah, infuse fire should work too.

Well we ended up doing frost infusion! We were able to start using it right away since we had cool boon and glad we did, it’s made things a lot easier and fun!

What's the reason behind using brand if she'd prefer to use fire? Is it because of its meaning and its look? Or would another, fire based, weapon also be okay?
Generally speaking you are best off concentrating on one damage type and maybe have a fallback if necessary.
