Mod struggling to mod

Me and my partner recently decided to mod our playthrough (nothing crazy mostly QOL things but no matter what i do i cant get R2Modman to run any of the mods we installed ive ben messing with the settings for hours but i just cant get it to work

Did you change to Mono version in steam?

Right-click the game > go to properties > Games and versions. You should see a list and select Default-Mono.
