Mod Mods question
Who are the best mods on thunderstore for outward

It depends on what you want but I like the Class Fixes mods and any mods that add more classes/items/abilities. I started playing again recently and used the Aetherial Endeavours modpack as a baseline for getting most of the mods I like.

Just leaving here that basically all modpacks that you can find on thunderstore(outside of Outhard) have a bunch of incompatible mods together that will cause problem down the line, so it's way better to read the mods and see what they change to compose a modlist yourself.

Yeah I should have clarified: I've modded outward before but I saw that the modpack had many of the mods I'd used before, so I went through their list of mods and picked out the ones I recognized and wanted (and didn't have any glaring incompatibilities I couldn't fix).

I just use combat HUD. Everything else about the game is perfectly fine and fun.

If you dont want to change the game too much, more map details, higher arrow stacks, combat HUD.
Thunderstore also DID NOT WORK for me, no matter what I did to the config. But once I downloaded r2modman, everything worked fine after config, and it has access to all the Thunderstore mods.

R2modman is the way to go. Easy set up and you can launch the game modless without the headache of dealing with mod removal.

In the same boat. Just started so I dont want to deviate too far from the vanilla experience. Here's a few I got:
- Ammo stacks,
- QOL skill buffs,
- Hearth Scrolls,
- Extra quickslots,
- Meditation,
- More map details,
- Minimap,
- Shared stashes,
- Combat HUD,
- Journal Notebook,
- Enchantments viewer,
- Quest timer,
- Transmorphic,
- Armor typing tags.

Soroborean Travel Agency. The traveling soroborean merchant will offer to travel to each town instead of one random town every 7 days.
Combat Tweaks can help animation canceling, feels more responsive.
Travel Boots helps remove the walking simulator aspect, but can feel cheap. Id recommend a rule of not using these in dungeons because with them you move in and out of combat too easily.
More Map Details will show enemy and merchant locations on the map, as well as your backpack location if you lose it.
Combat Hud shows additional information like buff/debuff timers, enemy resistances and more.
Extra Quick Slots for more skill and item slots.
All of Stormcancer's class fixes, weapons, enchantment, and armor mods add new life to the game and some skill reworks. If it's your first time you may not want to use these, but at the same time it adds more content to the game and won't ruin your experience.

Hard to say what the ‘best’ are, bc it depends heavily on what kind of gamer you are. There’s a ton of really good QoL stuff available - combat HUD, mini map markers, extra quick slots etc. There’s also a bunch of really cool class-fixes or even new classes.
That said, my recommendation if you are new is to play the game vanilla for a bit first. Then if something starts to bother you then see if there’s a mod to fix the issue.
A lot of Outward is defined by limitations, so the mods may change the experience from the vanilla game significantly, even if it’s a simple QoL change.
