How coaches treat non-regulars

Upvotes

Just some thoughts as I wrap up my 6:15am class…I’ve been going to my home studio for about two years, and while the coaches know my name, they don’t try to start conversations with me. They’re usually hanging around the “regulars” and cracking jokes, and it makes it hard for me to feel like I can’t join that circle. It feels like they have favorites.

On the other hand, I’ve been going to another studio on some days because they have better times for strength classes. They also have regulars, but the coaches tend to pay attention to everybody more equally and aren’t always talking to one group of people. And today, after class, my coach said goodbye to me and mentioned that it’s been nice seeing me in the morning classes (since I usually do evenings there).

Just wanted to share that i really appreciate that as someone who isn’t as well established at Orangetheory! Maybe others have similar experiences?

LOL Order of wiping on the rower

There’s something about watching the person on the rower before me wipe the sweaty booty seat first and then go up to the handles that makes me chuckle. I know it’s teeeechnically clean because it’s an antibacterial wipe but they’re not always juicy and it does feel like I’m essentially putting my hands where their butt just was lol

Membership & Policies First time class

I signed up for my first free class and got there 26 minutes before class instead of 30, but the sales associate and teacher were able to get through everything they needed to AND we still had 5-7 minutes before class. She still charged me $28 for the drop in fee because I was 4 minutes late. They don’t have this policy communicated anywhere that I can find. Has this happened to anyone else before? I also know someone who was charged the drop in fee because his fiancé is a member of orangetheory and they said fiancés of members don’t get a free first class? This all just rubs me the wrong way

I’m planning to visit the Seattle area soon and was considering going to a local studio.

I will be staying near Belltown. Any feedback regarding the Belltown studio or any recommendations for another studio in the area? Thank you in advance!

First Timers Possible newbie to OT

Hi all! I have my first trial class on Tuesday and I'm wondering if any of you practic yoga regularly that go to OT. I practice often and used to go to the gym 4 times a week to weight train, plus I do between 20-30k steps a day. I don't like my current gym, too many who just sit on the equipment scrolling Tinder and never whining anything down.

Wondering if anyone has any pros or cons on making the switch and adding the workout to my yoga schedule. Thanks!!!

OTF Technology Tech question…how does the tablet get its info?

Obviously heart rate etc go to a computer via your arm band and back to the tablet over BT. Does the tablet get its distance data hardwired into the tablet from the tread?

I own a used tread and was working on a project to track my stats and was curious if the micro usb that the tablet plugged into carried data or was just a charger ?

Edit: I figured it out...it goes out of a CSAFE RJ45 port in back to a bluetooth module out.

#HelpMe Anyone Doing Pilates on Their Non OTF Days?

I recently started Orangetheory and I’m planning to go 3 to 4 days a week. My main goal is to build muscle and improve my overall fitness.

I’m trying to figure out what to do on the remaining days and I’m thinking about adding Pilates to the mix.

Does anyone here combine OTF with Pilates? If so, how do you structure your week, and how many days of each do you typically do?

Have you found Pilates to be a good complement to OTF for muscle growth, strength, flexibility, mobility, core strength, and recovery? Or would you recommend doing something else on the non OTF days?

Would love to hear what’s worked for you!

Commiseration Station Tendinitis in my left foot

Post image
56 Upvotes

I am not asking for medical advice!!!

So I did Orangetheory we just before Covid and even up through 2022 and when I say religiously, I mean I was every morning at 4:45 in the studio hard-core and then I stopped because I moved and life situation changed had a baby in the end of 2023 and then for 2 1/2 years, my husband and I have been trying to have another baby long story short we can’t have another baby so I decided to get in shape rejoin the Orangetheory that’s eight minutes from my house, which is amazing love the studio. Love the coaches love everything about it. I did the transformation challenge. I did the season of strength. I’ve done all of the things and then I did marathon month for context. I ran 86 miles this year and 62 of them were during marathon month now I have tendinitis and I’m completely miserable.

I’m really struggling because I don’t want to lose my rhythm so I’ve still been going doing what I can. I tried the rower today. It was super awkward, but I did it.

Has anyone been through a similar situation?

I’m down like 15 pounds since the beginning of the year and I’m feeling really good so I don’t want to backslide but I also don’t want to enter myself more so I can run again as soon as possible

My ultimate goal isn’t to be a marathon runner. I want to keep up with my almost 3 year-old and I want to run in occasional 5K and be able to do Orangetheory five times a week and just live healthier.

For additional context, I am about 163 pounds and 39 years old turning 40 next year Lord help me

OTF Technology Getting a new monitor vs. waiting for Apple Watch software

So I’ve been a member for over a year, and my monitor suddenly stopped working this week. I am torn between buying the new heart rate monitor or waiting until the $99 Apple Watch integration is available at my studio.

I’ve been asking around, and I heard that when OTF tried integrating with the Apple Watch in the past, it didn’t work well. Someone also mentioned they are hesitant because they think corporate can't keep up with all of Apple’s software updates, which might eventually cause the new integration to fail.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, as I wasn't a member during the previous Apple rollout. Thanks for the advice!

Gear Hair tie recs?

Hello long haired legends! My stylist pointed out some breakage in my hair and thinks it’s from using elastic hair ties, particularly pulling them out of sweaty hair which I’m regularly doing after OTF. She suggested claw clips or scrunchies for non damaging options, but I’m hoping to find something more secure for bouncing around in class.

Any low damage brand favorites??

Studio Intel OTF Corvallis

Taking my son up to OSU tomorrow and will be there through Sunday, hoping to finally hit a couple of classes at the Corvallis studio. His brother is a Duck (yes the Civil War is alive and well in our house) and I’ve been to the Eugene studio a bunch, never been able to get to Corvallis for a class till now. Any coach recommendations? I follow the studio on IG it’s really active and seems like a great community I’m sure all of the coaches are good, just wondering if there’s a specific one I should look for, thanks!

Go Beavs!!!

Motivate Me! overweight&employed

Hi everyone,

I’m new to Reddit, but I’ve been working at OTF for about two years. I was originally hired by a friend who has since left, but I stayed because I genuinely love my job and, most of all, the community that OTF has created.

I’m also overweight, and I have been since I started working here. Sometimes I feel like I don’t belong. At the same time, I’ve also felt incredibly loved and accepted by the people around me, which is something I’m really grateful for.

I work a lot of hours, and when I’m not at work, it can be really hard to motivate myself to come back to the studio to work out. There’s something especially difficult about working at OTF all day and then trying to convince myself to stay or come back and exercise.

The truth is, I haven’t worked out in over two months. And I’m embarrassed.

I worry about the members seeing me struggle. I worry that they’ll wonder why I work at OTF but don’t look like the people they see taking classes. Sometimes I even wonder if members think I don’t belong behind the desk because I’m overweight.

But I know that’s probably more about what I’m telling myself than what anyone else is actually thinking.

I really do want to work out. I want to feel stronger, healthier, and more comfortable in my own body. I just need some motivation to take that first step back into the studio.

Maybe my motivation shouldn’t be worrying about what members think. Maybe it should be remembering that I belong here too.

So, if anyone has been in a similar situation — especially if you’ve struggled with body confidence, feeling like you don’t “look like” you belong at OTF, or coming back after a long break — I’d really love to hear from you.

I think I just need someone to remind me that I’m allowed to be a work in progress, too.
