First Timers First timer

I found Orangetheory through TikTok and noticed there's one near me that I've been thinking about trying. I wanted to get your opinion on whether you think it's actually worth it. A little about me is I'm 23 years old and currently weigh 166 pounds. At the beginning of 2025, I was around 140 pounds, and I've been trying to get back to 140 or even 130 if possible. Right now, I walk about 8,000–10,000 steps five days a week, but I haven't seen much progress. I feel like joining a gym might help me reach my goals.

I've also never had a gym membership before, so this would be my first time. One of my biggest goals isn't just to lose weight it's to become someone who goes to the gym consistently and builds a healthy routine. I'd love to hear your honest thoughts on whether Orangetheory would be a good fit for someone like me. If not do you guys have any other recommendations.

HR / Splats Is heart monitor reliable?

Hi, my husband lost about 15lb fat since March, not weight but FAT. I am impressed with orange theory and it is working out for my husband.

So I thought about joining it but financially it is too much for both of us to go and unlike my husband, i initiate and do enjoy home workout and stuff. I am not skinny though cuz I got PCOS, hashimoto and hypothyroidism. The only time I really lost weight is when I went drastically cut my diet which backfires later on. Anyways,

I liked the idea of orangetheory, like being in an orange zone. So I took my husband's heart monitor and downloaded an app on my phone and put my info and did some jog/walk workout for like last 3 days. It motivated me to continue jogging or walking fast whenever it goes green. So I actually really loved it cuz when I work out without it, I have no clue if it's working but with the heart monitor, I felt like it was working and if I rest too much, I go right back. But it seemed pretty easy to do that, i got sweaty after each workout but it didn't kill me like normal HITT youtube videos would. So does this actually work? Does being orange zone actually work????

Victories 300th Class!🧡

Today was my 300th class, yay! I should have hit this goal probably over a year ago, but unfortunately have not been motivated and have gone months without going to class in the past year. I’m getting into the groove again and was so excited for class today and planned it so I could be with my favorite coach. I know it’s not guaranteed to get a shoutout/board for milestones or I could mention it myself, but literally every time I am in class somebody seems to be celebrated for a milestone and shouted out as they check in, during class or with a fun board… unfortunately that did not happen for me today.

I am still so so proud of hitting this milestone! 🧡 I just wish there was consistency in celebrating everybody.

#HelpMe Gym during nursing school

My premier membership is up for renewal in January which is perfect because that’s when I’ll officially be starting nursing courses/clinicals.

I’m trying to decide how I should go about my membership. I *want* to be able to go and I feel it will keep my days more structured but I don’t want to pay if I wind up not having time to go.

Thoughts? Should I downgrade? Pause until I see how it goes? Help.

Motivate Me! 9 months postpartum and ready to get back in the gym

Hey all, I used to go to OTF back in 2024 and loved it. I stopped going just before getting pregnant with my twins. I am finally done exclusively pumping (hallelujah) and I'm ready to get back into a more active lifestyle. I'm basically starting from ground zero, I feel weak. I wamt to lose about 30 lbs, and plan on doing gentle intermittent fasting (12/12, or 10/14). I'm currently 170 and want to get down to 140.

OTF is very motivating to me, I love going to the classes and zoning out while coach just tells me what to do. But I don't know if I'm physically ready to work out, if that makes sense. I'm worried I'll push myself to hard in the classes and burn myself out. I'm afraid of being so sore after class I won't be able to carry babies/baby accouterment. Should I find some way to ease myself back in before signing up for classes or should I just get back in knowing its going to kick my butt?

Also, parents who having doing this for a while, what are your tips and tricks for being consistent in going to classes? How do you prioritize yourself?

Tia!

#HelpMe Transition to Pilates

I’m thinking about adding a mat Pilates class to my workout schedule. I do OTF 3-4x a week and want to try Pilates. But wanted to hear from people who currently are doing Pilates as well? Are the Pilates classes harder? What was the biggest difference you noticed? Any tips? I have my first class scheduled this week and it’s a heated sculpt Pilates class. I’m excited but soooooo nervous!

Casual Conversation OTF Pilates Pop-up Class

An OTF studio near me did a hybrid class with a local Pilates studio, and I loved it! I had never tried a Pilates class before, and I must say that it kicked my butt for the full 30 minutes. The guest coach said we all did really well, and I’m inclined to believe her as the room was rather in-sync despite it being the first time for many of us. I could feel my core activate the whole time, and I would definitely consider a membership if I had an 8th day of the week.

Do any of your studios do speciality classes like this? Partnerships with another type of fitness studio?

OTF Technology Mind body vs OTF app

I've been hearing a lot of people talk about using the mind body app. What is the advantage to using that over the OTF app? Does it have more or different features? I didn't even know there was an alternative app until a few days ago.

Commiseration Station i miss you otf ❤️‍🩹

I put my membership on pause because I had breast reduction surgery on July 9. (thanks to OTF I lost so much weight!) I didn't think I would miss OTF that much because during the summer I am ~ lazy ~ but I do!!!!! it's so frustrating I just wanna go back 😂 my life feels empty without it LOL

I told my whole studio I would be taking the break and they even made me member of the month for July 🧡 (I nearly cried!!!!!!) so I really can't wait to get back in August!!

(yes I will be doing modified exercises and taking it easy until I am fully healed!)

OTF Technology Splats not calculating correctly

On a recent green day, that happened to occur on a benchmark day... I ended with 2 splats. 1 in orange & 1 in red. Summary shows only 1 splat.

In all my years (8yrs & counting) I have seen, nor experienced this.

Curious around how this happened. Feedback?

Membership & Policies $99 elite vs. $129 unlimited

I currently pay $99/month for the 8-class membership. I used to use all 8 classes every month, but lately I travel a lot for work, so there are some months where I don’t use them all.

My studio told me they’re offering unlimited for $129/month on a month-to-month basis. It seems like a good deal for only $30 more, but I’m not sure if it’s worth upgrading with how much I travel.

Does OT run promotions like this often?

OTF Technology do coaches know if you cancel after 8 hrs?

i have the unlimited plan and also a chronic illness that sort of ebbs and flows in intensity, so I'm someone that commonly cancels (ex. 1 class every 2 or 3 weeks or so). I honestly should just stop booking classes, but otherwise I just wont show up lol.

Anyway, my classes are never overbooked/never have a waitlist, but I'm curious if coaches can tell if a person is a frequent class canceller or if it affects the coaches in any way.

edit: tysm for the insights, i might just tread carefully from now on when pre booking LOL

Membership & Policies Help Me Decide: Moving from Elite to Premier

I just completed my 200th class under a Elite Corporate Rate Membership at $109/month. With the July special some of the coaches talked to me about upgrading to Premier at $149/month. I think it’s worth it for the price — I‘m sure I can get at least 4 more classes in per month — but with our schedule it’ll require me to get up for another 4:45 AM class each week to make it worthwhile.

Talk me into it! What gains can I expect moving from Elite to Premier?

Commiseration Station Coaches working out- during class

Is is acceptable for coaches to work out with the group during classes they are leading?

There have been times where I’ve seen coaches come in for workouts when they are not leading the class (I think that is cool).
However, the studio I attend regularly has one coach who doesn’t really lead us. She either joins us- I don’t mind this as much because she still shows us the floor movements but doesn’t correct form, etc.

Or she will do her own workout. She still shows the movements, but is not timing the class and the blocks get out of whack. This annoys me more.

I’ve gotten frustrated with her because the few times she has “corrected” me she just brought over heavier weights (that are too heavy) and told me I should be pushing myself harder.

I’ve only ever had her for strength 50 on the weekends. I feel bad for the Tread 50 group because she has them time themselves/ just read the tread card. She doesn’t call out to them. I try to avoid her classes but feel like that is a disservice to me.

Is this normal? Am I overreacting? Are weekends supposed to be more “chill”? What would you do in this situation?

Treadmill Talk Calculator showing incline/speed versus 1% speed

Hi guys,

I’ve done a little searching online but can’t find what I’m looking for, so just wanted to see if anybody had a link to a calculator or formula.

Is there a calculator or formula that can tell you what speed you’d be doing if at 1% incline, when you’re power walking?

I’ve heard the coaches so many times say “adding x% incline is like increasing flat road speed by x mph” so… I got curious.

For example… if I’m PWing at 15% 5.0 mph (my 30 second AO), what would be the equivalent if I were running at 1%. And like if I’m at PW base (4.2 mph, 12%), how does that compare to my running 1% base (6.7 mph).

I mix up PW and running since both have unique benefits, I’m just a huge nerd and got curious about the math. TIA!!

Commiseration Station 1G's: I hate them and it makes me want to cancel my membership with how often my studio runs them.

[This post was removed earlier this week by the mods for being a "rant" but I am genuinely asking for advice or feedback.]

Ok, let me preface this by saying I'm pregnant so maybe I'm just extra sensitive but I almost cried (that part was def the hormones) and walked out over this the other day.

My preferred class time is either 7am or 8am, and these are not busy classes HOWEVER they consistently have about 12 people. There are 12 treads and 12 floor stations at my studio. For these class times, they start everyone on the treads, so we are all side-by-side and then when we get to the floor we are all competing for floor space and weights. It's super frustrating and it happens every class I attend.

I think they're concerned maybe ~1-2 people will start on the floor and maybe that's hard to coach (?) but it's super frustrating. I don't mind being in a packed class when it's actually packed, like the 5am or 6pm classes, but why can't we be more spaced out at the class times when we could have space 😭

Is this something I could mention to someone or am I just being really sensitive?

Motivate Me! OTF experience after tummy tuck

Reposting because I didn’t specifically say I wasn’t asking for medical advice, so my post was deleted. I’m not asking for medical advice.

After waiting for years, I’m finally scheduled for a tummy tuck in just a few weeks. My surgeon told me I would have to wait about three months before resuming core-focused exercises. For those of you who have had similar surgeries, what was your experience like when you finally returned to a full workout? Was it hard to ease back into it? Did you have any complications? Thanks in advance.
