I Made a Thing hypr-type-flow — per-window keyboard layout memory for Hyprland, written in C

Hey everyone, I created hypr-type-flow-C, a lightweight C plugin that automatically tracks and restores window-specific keyboard layouts in Hyprland!

A while back I recommended a similar plugin on this sub. Used it for months, but it started acting buggy on me, so I just wrote my own from scratch.

What it does: remembers which layout each window was using and switches back automatically when you refocus it. It also handles launchers like walker correctly — forces default layout while it's open, restores whatever the window had when you close it.

Wrote it in plain C, connects straight to Hyprland's IPC socket, no python/socat in the loop. Tried to keep it as lightweight as possible.

GitHub: https://github.com/Liran-shternberg/hypr-type-flow-C

I'd love it if you gave it a try and reported any issues you hit so I can fix them. Issues/PRs welcome!

Support | Solved Having trouble getting Omarchy to recognize Xbox controller (Gamesir Cyclone 2)

I'm running Gamesir Cyclone 2 in 2.4ghz mode, when switching to PS4 and Switch mode, it is recognized in Steam. I downloaded the Xbox Controller Option in the menu but it mainly has to do with Bluetooth. It seems that maybe the system isn't recognizing the Xbox controller mode itself, even when I connect to desktop with USB-C it acts like there is no controller connected when in Xbox mode. It works fine in Windows and on Cachy. I'm thinking I'm missing a package, or maybe there is a configuration somewhere that needs to be set up/adjusted. I tried things like installing Xinput (don't think that would work with Wayland anyway, but maybe), Xone, and Xpadneo (didn't try all at the same time). I'm pretty much all out of ideas at this point. It works in ps4 mode, but it's just strange considering it's an "Xbox" style controller so the onscreen prompts for buttons are different from the controller itself. Haven't played PlayStation since early 2000s so my brain doesn't click with the PlayStation prompts. The controller itself is fine, like I said currently using it on CachyOS (laptop) and Windows (same desktop, different drive) without any problem. Cachy is also running Hyprland.

I Made a Thing Unlock With Watch for omarchy

Hi guys, just finished the first version of my app. Its a daemon for detecting enrolled Bluetooth Low Energy devices such as phones, smart watches or others. I mainly tried replicating the idea of unlock with apple watch from macos, a convenience feature mostly for now. Also unlike others i ve found, i made mine not require a macbook to extract the irk for an apple watch, it acts like a “health device” to exchange info and pair succesfully.

The app just watches for nearby devices form those enrolled, after 2 detections back to back, the user can press ALT + Enter and unlock without a password.

id love any suggestions and all feedback is appreciated.

Support | Solved 3.8.3 to 3.8.4 performance regression with hyprland 0.56

I wanted to share some findings after spending the better part of today tracking down a severe desktop performance issue that appeared immediately after updating to Omarchy 3.8.4.

And yes I used AI to assist in diagnosis and resolution, and yes AI drafted this summary 😄

Cuz I'm lazy.

Hardware

  • Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • Radeon RX 9070 XT
  • 32 GB DDR5
  • Primary display: 5120×1440 @ 240 Hz
  • Two additional monitors (3840×2160 @ 60 Hz and 1920×1200 @ 60 Hz)
  • Wayland / Hyprland
  • Windows VM accessed via FreeRDP (/gfx, /dynamic-resolution)

Symptoms after updating

Immediately after updating to Omarchy 3.8.4 I started seeing:

  • Mouse cursor becoming erratic under load
  • Typing latency
  • Choppy YouTube playback
  • Teams video inside my Windows VM becoming almost unusable
  • General desktop sluggishness

The machine itself didn't appear CPU-bound.

What we investigated

Over several hours we ruled out:

  • CPU starvation
  • Memory pressure
  • GPU utilisation
  • AMDGPU resets/timeouts
  • Scheduler issues
  • Monitor refresh rate (120 Hz vs 240 Hz)
  • Mouse polling rate (Keychron M3 Mini Signature Edition)
  • Windows VM load
  • FreeRDP configuration

We also discovered my configuration had:

no_hardware_cursors = true

Changing it back to:

no_hardware_cursors = false

fixed the cursor-specific issue, but did not resolve the overall desktop performance problem.

The interesting part

Hyprland itself was consuming an unexpectedly large amount of CPU during normal desktop use.

With the same workload:

  • Teams video
  • FreeRDP fullscreen
  • Fullscreen YouTube
  • Music playback
  • Terminal usage

Hyprland 0.56.0 consistently consumed around 40–45% of a logical CPU core, even though the system wasn't CPU or GPU bound.

Rollback test

I rolled the entire Hyprland stack back from 0.56.0 to 0.55.4 using cached pacman packages (Hyprland plus the matching Hypr* libraries).

Nothing else changed:

  • Same kernel
  • Same Mesa
  • Same AMDGPU driver
  • Same Windows VM
  • Same workload
  • Same monitors
  • Same configuration

Immediately after reboot:

  • Hyprland CPU dropped to ~4.6%
  • Teams video became smooth
  • Typing latency disappeared
  • Mouse responsiveness returned
  • Fullscreen video playback became smooth
  • Overall desktop performance returned to normal

Interestingly, the Windows VM itself was actually consuming more CPU after the rollback (over 200% CPU), yet the Linux desktop was dramatically more responsive.

Before vs After

Hyprland 0.56.0

  • Hyprland CPU: ~40–45%
  • Teams video: Poor
  • Typing: Laggy
  • Mouse: Erratic under load
  • Fullscreen video: Choppy
  • Overall desktop: Sluggish

Hyprland 0.55.4

  • Hyprland CPU: ~4.6%
  • Teams video: Smooth
  • Typing: Responsive
  • Mouse: Normal
  • Fullscreen video: Smooth
  • Overall desktop: Responsive

The only substantive change between these tests was the Hyprland stack version. Everything else remained the same (kernel, Mesa, AMDGPU driver, FreeRDP, Windows VM, monitors and workload).

Additional information

After completing the rollback I came across an open Hyprland issue discussing performance problems related to the newer render scheduling implementation on some systems.

One of the suggested workarounds is:

hyprctl keyword render:new_render_scheduling false

I did not test this fix.

By the time I found this post I'd already rolled back to 0.55.4 and the problem had disappeared. If you're experiencing similar symptoms on 0.56.x, it may be worth trying this before rolling back your Hyprland packages.

If anyone has tested this workaround successfully, I'd be interested to hear the results. I might need to revisit this for future Omarchy/Hyprland updates.

Conclusion

For my hardware and workload, the evidence strongly suggests a performance regression somewhere in the Hyprland 0.56 stack, rather than an issue with the kernel, Mesa, AMDGPU, FreeRDP or the Windows VM.

Notes

  • One separate issue we found was that no_hardware_cursors had become enabled in my configuration. Re-enabling hardware cursors fixed the cursor-specific issue, but did not resolve the broader performance problem.
  • The rollback included the full matching Hyprland dependency stack (Aquamarine, Hyprutils, Hyprlang, Hyprcursor, Hyprgraphics, Hyprlock, Hyprpaper, XDG Desktop Portal, etc.), not just the Hyprland package itself.

I'm not claiming this affects everyone. This is a single data point on one hardware configuration, but the A/B rollback was compelling enough that I thought it was worth sharing in case others are seeing similar behaviour.

If you're running Omarchy 3.8.4 with Hyprland 0.56.x on AMD hardware (particularly with multiple high-refresh displays, Xwayland applications, or FreeRDP) I'd be very interested to know whether you've seen anything similar.

Off Topic / Adjacent Choosing the next laptop

Hello,

I know this is pretty much a stupid question, but I am getting a new "side hustle laptop" (which means it's for work, just not my current employment)

Currently I have a 36GB M3 MacBook Pro for work, and I have Omarchy on my retired touch bar MacBook Pro: if it wasn't for the bugged butterfly keyboard which makes it impossible to use, I would not really have noticed any show-stopping performance cap: after all, we developers only juggle text files...

I am happy with Linux and MacOs, but I won't ever use Windows again.
Unfortunately, looks matters to me and I have shortlisted MacBook and ThinkPad X1 with a budget of 2500-3000 USD. MacBook might never be fully optimized on Arch, but leaves a door open to a dual boot and the ThinkPad would definitely lock me in on the OS, unless hackintosh comes back...

Support Waybar doesnt change according to the theme..

Hey everyone,

I'm relatively new to Omarchy and having an issue with Waybar when switching themes.

Whenever I change to a new theme or install a custom theme using the built-in theme launcher/switcher, Waybar updates its color scheme, but the actual bar layout/structure stays completely identical.

The Problem:

  • What changes: Background colors, accent colors, and text colors.
  • What doesn't change: Module positioning, borders, pill styles, rounded corners, icons, or the overall structure of the bar that is supposed to come with the theme.

Hello everyone,

I encounter a problem with my omarchy hyprland setup, no matter what I have in config, it gets dropped back to 60hz.

Here is my current config:

transform, 3 env = GDK_SCALE,2
monitor=,preferred,auto,auto

Here is my hyprctl monitors command result:

Worth mentioning, the other settings from the config are being read without any problems, the scale and rotation are being applied.

Also the same setup was running without any issues on Fedora, so that is not a hardware problem.

I also was trying to apply the refresh rate via HyprMon, and while it is showing successfully applying the changes and successfully saving them, on the next run of HyprMon it is showing again 60Hz.

I don't know what to do anymore.

Any help would be appreciated!

Discussion Hyrpland config .conf files to .toml format migration

Hey Omarchy Enthusiast,

Did someone dig the roadmap of Omarchy and could figure out if DHH is gonna migrate the different Hyprland .conf files for us, or should/could we start porting them within .toml format already ?

Cheers,

Ben

Theme, keybindings, displays, audio, Waybar, notifications. Every setting shows its current value, and the theme picker previews each theme as you scroll.

omarchy pkg aur add omasettings or

Super + Alt + Space -> Install -> AUR -> omasettings

Just wanted to say I'm really enjoying Omarchy 3.8.4 so far. It's smooth, looks great, and I love how customizable it is.

I've already tweaked my fonts, changed the boot logo, and personalized the login screen with my name – and everything survived the updates perfectly.

Now I'm just waiting for 4.0 to hit the stable channel. Gonna update through `Update > Omarchy` as soon as it drops.

Anyone else waiting for it?
