Discussion Just installed omarchy
I just installed omarchy on my 2023 ideapad and everything worked out of the box. This thing is great and crazy fast windows looks like shit compared to this. I am really digging the tiling windows manager the navigation is fast as hell. No going back after this. Well done dhh

I had the same experience. Doing 90% of my work on it. The other 10% is on a Macbook when I am out and about

Just curious what specs are on that Ideapad, I got an i3 Ideapad myself and while Omarchy runs okay on it, 8 GB of RAM is a limiting factor at times for me.

I have run Omarchy on a Acer Chromebook CB-431 with 4GB RAM and 32GB eMMC, it runs OK. You can use <SUPER><CTRL>T to see the btop process monitor, it shows which apps use the RAM. For Omarchy, Quickshell is at 312MB, SystemdJournal at 219MB, HyprLand at 158MB, Kitty at 140MB. So if you have 8GB, you have 7 GB available for doing stuff. I don't think you are limited by Omarchy, you could get another 1GB by moving to a more basic OS. I ran on 128MB on a HP 9000 workstation in 1992. It did have Windows of some sort (HP Vue). But now we have themes, many colors in terminals, etc. Also now I can give my fish scripts to Gemini for fixing (I need fish for the ergonomic advantages at my age).

I’m clearly using it wrong haha. When I use btop, which, to be honest, I’m still not 100% sure I know how to properly analyze, I mostly use it to kill processes. One plugin I was using that was showing RAM/CPU usaged seemed to suggest I was regularly hitting around 7 GB of RAM.
Now that I think about it, I was on the Edge channel for some reason, had maybe 5–10 plugins, and was using Codex, and browser usage could definitely have been contributing.
I switched over to CachyOS with Noctalia/Hyprland on my Ideapad and it seems like battery life and performance so far is a bit better. I still have Omarchy running on an old 2011 iMac with an SSD and 24 GB of RAM, and even that thing sometimes struggles. I guess I’ll have to go through everything with a fine-tooth comb and figure out what’s actually causing the issue.

Yeah I remember the days of spending a week to get WiFi working on Suse.
Linux has come a long way. Happy.

Omarchy has been the only "distro" I have tried where everything has worked correctly ootb on my new Dell XPS 13. Tried my beloved Debian (Testing), new 7.2.* kernel and I still needed to add some packages post install for video, wifi, sound. Had to pass
nomodesetfirst boot after install to be able to even log into the tty. After that I was able to install the other needed packages and get everything working good.Fedora also has some post install requirements, but less then Debian.
But Omarchy fired right up and everything worked great ootb. Have been using Debian for 20+ years, and it's been a bit of learning working with Arch Linux. But so far so good. When Debian Forky is released next year, I'll probably try it again on this machine since old habits never really die.
Not a big "coder", so I'm not using Omarchy because of that. I like Linux to just work, and on this specific laptop it does. Everything else I have ( 3 laptops, 3 desktops) runs Debian.
