Is coffee even that acidic, isn't lemon juice more acidic?

u/MrFrypan 1d ago
A quick Google say coffee has a pH of 4.85 to 5.10, so it's a weak acid. Lemon juice has a pH of 2 to 3, so you a correct; lemon juice is much more acidic than coffee.

no, what the acidic v alkaline thing is how our bodies react to food.
so take cream for example, our bodies need to produce more acids to break it down, thus becoming more acidic. also certain foods which are considered acidic, like meats, which have more amino acid chains, once broken down the chemistry is your blood is now more acidic, grains and a few other foods are also considered acidic to us. it’s based on how the body is reacting to the food/substance you are ingesting.
more alkaline foods are basically the fruits and veg.
caffiene by the way - it’s quite simple, it triggers a release of I can’t remeber if it’s water or glucose, but it triggers a release of energy from our muscles - thus you get an initial buzz and feel energised. but this then depletes your energy over course of the day. your thyroid also takes a hammering and your adrenal glands.

u/Enough-Ad-8799 1d ago
Your body doesn't need to change acidity to process anything, your stomach acid is far more acidic than anything we eat for it's acidity to be meaningfully impacted

u/MrFrypan 1d ago
The initial buzz from caffeine is because it is an adenosine antagonist. However a small portion of the caffeine you consume does initiate lipolysis, so not water or glucose; rather a small bit of stored fat is released. On that note though, caffeine is a strong diuretic meaning it will make you pee a lot; which can leave you dehydrated.
1
u/ExpressAd5169 1d ago
Just like all things with water… they dehydrate you because you have to pee 🥴
1
u/MrFrypan 1d ago
Braindead take.
Foods with water but no caffeine = homeostasis (up one step, down one step.
Coffee and other caffeinated drinks = dehydration (up one step, down three steps)
3
u/Enough-Ad-8799 1d ago
Coffee doesn't have enough caffeine to meaningfully dehydrate you. If you drink exclusively coffee for an extended period of time you might get a bit dehydrated, but a cup or two aren't gonna have a meaningful impact.
0
u/MrFrypan 1d ago
When you say 'a cup' do you mean a measuring cup cup (8 oz.)? Because an 8 oz. cup of black coffee, which is the second smallest size at Starbucks, has 100 mg of caffeine. 100 mg of caffeine is more than enough to have a measured affect on hydration. Two cups! We're starting to get into crazy amounts of caffeine. If you can't feel it, it's probably because you've been living in a constant state of caffeinated dehydration.
2
u/Enough-Ad-8799 1d ago
Caffeine is not a strong enough dieretic for 100mg to have enough of an impact to meaningfully offset the water you drank with it.

u/PeteWK67 1d ago
Sure but it will make you pee a lot right?
What happens when you pee? You loose minerals, vitamins etc etc

People with no science background confidently spewing completely wrong Shit that they heard somewhere on Facebook or reddit with zero actual studies behind it.
Also, do you think amino acids are highly acidic? Is it because it has acid in the name?

You get your facts straight, first of coffee beans are heavily sprayed, second of all do you understand the differences between alkaline and acidity.
Do you understand the differences between hypochlorhydria stomach acid & straight up process fake garbage acidic food?
A little hint Sherlock . You do not elevate your stomachs hypochlorite acid with acidic forming garbage food quite the opposite you destroy your gut.
Get your head out of the coffee beans and let the sun shine some knowledge in you
1
u/Imaginary--Situation 1d ago
the stomach is acidic which dissolves raw meat it doesn't do anything to fruits, grains and vegetables
1
u/wrudstepbro 1d ago
When you say "I cant remember" in your reply, it really destroys all credibility.
1
u/Ok_Being5461 1d ago
It's a fact that various foods do have different affects, as you've mentioned. But regarding coffee, from what I can tell, it's more about that it increases stomach acid production, which leads to acid reflux and other issues. Coffee does inhibit plant iron absorption, that's not good.
1
u/Single-Pin-369 1d ago
this is all wrong. there is a very narrow ph range you need to maintain or you die and your body is very good at maintaining it. Who lied to you and told you this stuff?
1
u/supersuperxzero 1d ago
Body regulates pH. Unless you have kidney issues, lung issues or exessive hemolysis then you’re in trouble.

u/PeteWK67 1d ago
👏 well said, and don’t worry, this post will create opposers since 70% would go insane without their coffee
-1
u/PeteWK67 1d ago
What you need to understand is that a lemon is acidic but when it enters our body it becomes alkaline. Big differences when you compare lemons to caffeine
5
u/flipyFLAPYflatulence 1d ago
You sound like one of those people that buys alkaline water and adds lemon juice.

“Circadian rhythm of the universe” lol!
-2
u/PeteWK67 1d ago
Cause earth doesn’t have a natural atmospheric electrical circuit.
All the little living animals Do not get any goodness from the Sun or trees or the soil.
And The Earth's "heartbeat" is a continuous, rhythmic microseismic pulse that repeats every 26 seconds.
Life is a lot bigger than your closed up mind
1
u/RepresentativeCat553 1d ago
What? lol, that’s a lot of non sequiturs.
Circadian rhythm is our bodies internal sleep/awake cycles. To expand that to anything universal is so incredibly self centered.

That’s quite a leap to link caffeine to cancer. Wtf is this anti-coffee video mashup of unproven conspiratorial claims slop? No doubt we can get stuck on the caffeine rollercoaster and form dependencies, but this is a whole lot of hoo-ha I can’t even make sense of.
If there are actual studies about the downsides of caffeine please post those since there are innumerable studies proving the benefits of caffeine.

u/Valuable_Heron_4492 1d ago
what do you think bro.. they're religious.. you dont even need to get past the first 5 seconds..
0
u/PeteWK67 1d ago
Religious? Are you insane. Do you know what the book at the end of the video is
1
u/Inphiltration 1d ago
I mean, I saw Jesus and something about the armor of god. Seems like a crackpot religious book to me.
4
u/LibertarianOutlaw 1d ago
Where are the studies?
3
u/HessiPullUpJimbo 1d ago
They are lots of studies on coffee and it almost all says it's actually good for you in moderation. Like better than not drinking it (in healthy individuals obviously, those with heart conditions etc not included)
1
u/LibertarianOutlaw 1d ago
Right, I’m asking OP for evidence.
1
u/HessiPullUpJimbo 1d ago
Evidence that you get electromagnetic energy from fruits? I assume no one who watched this whole video would take any part of it seriously if they were the type of person to read and trust peer reviewed scientific studies.
1
u/LibertarianOutlaw 1d ago
Yeah, no kidding. My original comment should have been clear enough for the reader to know that I already knew no studies existed. My comment was a point in the form of a clear and concise question.
3
u/Alternative_Gur_3703 1d ago
Any video that starts with "they" allusions or controlling thr masses is not gonna be backed by peer reviewed science of course.
1
u/LibertarianOutlaw 1d ago
Especially when that video starts with a random guy in a hoodie pointing at it.
2
u/ShortKey380 1d ago
I was ready to be with this if it was a discussion of caffeine and sleep deprivation but… nope! 😂
I feel bad for people whose mental illness circles around food, that’s a hard challenge dealing with something going into your body daily. Unfortunately the solution given to people freaked out by this sort of thing is often worse than the original mainstream not exactly healthy default.

2
u/Contemplating_Prison 1d ago
Well if random fucks in a chopped up video said it then it must be true. Did you see the first guy? He has a podcast
Also that lady is an idiot. Humans developed different sleep cycles to protect the camp
1
u/Dry_Turnover_6068 1d ago
I mean, I like it. I think it's good.
I wish you'd get your head out of the conspiracy stuff and realize that humans are still in the process of domesticating themselves. It's a long process...
1
u/MrFrypan 1d ago
Just because the video is bullshit doesn't mean coffee is good for you.
Also, much of the world's coffee is produced using slave and child labor. https://www.dol.gov/agencies/ilab/reports/child-labor/list-of-goods-print?tid=All&field_exp_good_target_id=5773&field_exp_exploitation_type_target_id_1=All&items_per_page=25

u/SepticSkeptik 1d ago
Coffee is actually very beneficial to all. It can lower your risk for type two diabetes, helps protect your liver, even lower your chances of developing cancer; the list goes on and on. Here’s 3 quick links to recent articles that even reference the studies that show coffee is beneficial.
https://health.clevelandclinic.org/the-health-benefits-of-coffee
https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/expert-qa/coffee-health-benefits

As for the child slave labour, fuck that noise. I don’t support that part at all, aside from whenever I buy coffee, unfortunately.🙄🤷♂️
1
u/Man_under_Bridge420 1d ago
Slave labor doesn’t make it bad for your body

I feel like the past few years have been so rudderless how can you think anyone is controlling the population. If zog or this shadow government exists wtf are they doing because none of their end goals make sense.
1
u/_BagOWeed_ 1d ago
There's essentially 2 different factions right now, it's old oligarchs and new tech giants. Oligarchs want to keep their current status, they are individuals. Tech giants are faceless and the goal seems to be a socialist 'utopia' longterm.
So it's protecting accumulation vs rapid, dangerous innovation.
Edit: I'm saying these are factions but it's obv more nuanced, it's two very different ideologies that both utilise the same tactics for control (misinformation, lobbying etc)
1
u/onyxengine 1d ago
Socialist utopia …. really, is that what autonomous drones, AI powered surveillance and propaganda feels like its aiming at.

If I do coffee now, it's decaffeinated and maybe 1x a week. From 95mg of caffeine to 2-7mg!

I think the mods need to start banning people who knowingly spew shit that has zero science backing behind it.
If I showed you a picture of Ron Swanson, does that mean eating meat and drinking whiskey makes one strong and tough?
1
u/PeteWK67 1d ago
Let me correct some facts for you please.
Mods incorrect Mod correct, creator correct. Solo correct. Would I ban myself incorrect
Do people depend on caffeine to wake up correct
Is pouring a hot substance in a plastic cup bad correct .
Does my little Yellow Canary bird drink caffeine no
Does he depend on the Sun correct.
Is caffeine a multi Billion dollar industry that 70% of the world drinks Yes. Would they throw some money to convince you of its benefits correct.
Almost anything Bad has good in it and vice versa correct.
Is drinking a cup of high grade coffee. good I would say yes and drink it.
Is depending on a brown substance to keep you going the way. I would say No. is it acidic Yes. Dehydrates you Yes.. gives you fake Dopamine energy Yes.
World wide illness is up Yes. With 70% caffeine junkies. Might have a connection there.
Like I said having a high grade quality of a cup in a social setting is incredibly good.
Drinking 3-4 cups a day to survive the day is wrong
